So, I've been worrying about this since Ashley talked about her ~5 concussions in that Body interview. It seems pretty common for skaters to have something like a dozen concussions...does anyone know if Yuzu's ever had one? I know at CoC he was supposed to be pre-concussion but didn't ultimately get one, but it seems really easy to get them from a hard fall in practice or something... and if some skaters have 15-20 concussions how easy is it to get them?! Is it possible to be a top skater without getting any concussions? And concussions have such a terrible long-lasting effect that you will never heal from... The interview: http://www.espn.com/olym…

First, I'm looking forward to the JGP and talking with you all about it in the competition threads The ladies field is just absolutely insane. Then, I'd like to see Yuzu compete and hopefully reign supreme this season. I'd also like to see what will happen with pairs and dance now that some of the strongest teams won't compete. And for silliness, I hope Disney will give Yuzu a chance to decorate Pooh clothes.

There is a comparison of SS between Patrick Chan and Yuzuru Hanyu here: http://the-real-xmonster.tumblr.com/post/165539440729/i-have-heard-people-say-that-yuzurus-and However, I haven't really found anything I would call an unbiased comparison between the SS of Boyang, Nathan, and Shoma. I know there exists a disparity between them, and I know they each have their own strengths in other sections of PCS (Boyang has generally better PE; Shoma is generally better at IN), but I want to know how to compare them. I also want to know what facets factor in: Is posture something that affects SS? In general, how do you determine who has good SS, when it's not extremely …

We thought a separate thread for the discussion seems prudent. There's after all a lot to talk about, not just in re to one skater but also it frees up the other thread(s) a bit

It was quite enlightening to learn @Fresca's opinion about Jason's and Yuzu's flexibility. To sum it up, Yuzu has a fantastic flexibility in the hips and back, whereas Jason has god a tremendous flexibility in the legs. I think we could also compare more skaters - Martinez, Kolyada, Vasilievs or whoever comes into your mind. As one example of different kinds of flexibility, I can remember Yulia Lipnitskaya who's very stretched and can raise her leg up to incredible heights. She's also very flexible in her lower back. But her turnout isn't so impressive, if I remember it right. It would be furthermore interesting to hear opinions whether flexible skaters …

Hi guys, asking on behalf of a friend on twitter. My friend will attend a seminar with ISU, and she wants to collect opinions and questions from people regarding the new set of rules. Which parts of the new rules do people find most difficult to understand and which parts you want to ask for clarification? She's not a member here, but will browse and check, so please feel free to leave comments in this thread. This is a good chance for us to also voice our opinions and probably have them heard by the ISU. @mods and admins: if you think this is better moved elsewhere, please feel free. Just send me the link so I can tell her where to c…

I figured we might as well have a separate thread for this, as the first proposals are coming out. ID technical committee had their meeting in Milano during the Worlds and there is a major uh oh in the works. So we are getting Themes per season apparently. In the Free Dance Some other stuff There is a YT video if anyone wants to watch Spoiler

I was thinking it would be fun to have a game for the off season. Maybe we can even have a prize; My first thought was everyone put in a small amount of money to a paypal account for a prize but with how international membership is that might be difficult and is probably considered gambling, though in the US fantasy sports are legal on the basis that it's a skill based activity so not sure. My 2nd thought for a prize would be buying some sort of membership perk, which would have the added benefit of helping fund the site, but as far as I can tell there aren't different membership levels or anything. Until someone can think of something feasible, right now p…

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so we might as well keep a record. A thread to post Yuzuru references, skating or otherwise, and other skaters. Because we know you're only a true Icon(TM) when people start copying you

This seemed like a good idea to me:- which costumes did you hate? For myself I'd put most of the 80s in there- the Brians looked absolutely ridiculous in all that spandex. To start I am nominating Javier Fernandez 'Modern Times' overalls from FAOI in the hope that it somehow makes him ditch them before competitions begin. The jettisoning of the moustache make up is a good sign that he's coming to his senses I hope.

It's an article about should the minimum age for seniors be raised, with several peeps chiming in. Quoting just a few, the full article can be found here: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2018/04/30/274122364 Thoughts? I'm curious because I think a lot of this is connected to the ladies but I do think it should be related to boys too and no matter what Brian says here, he has Gogo who is 12 and doing quads. Raf of course had Nathan, and we know how that went for him and who knows how it'll pan out. Overall, doesn't seem likely just yet but it's a good article!

Join us for the best data project ever! Dear the computer scientists, the data scientists and the FS lovers amongst us, Since we've been discussing about new scoring system and its effects... I'm totally won over (and shocked to the core) by Ambesi's argument here https://the-a-factor-fs.tumblr.com/post/165975610600/kiss-cry-episode-1#Part_4 The ISU needs to base their decisions on facts and numbers. Ambesi has been calling for a data revolution, but seems like the ISU hasn't taken notes. According to him, the new system won't change anything, and he presented some very good points. 1- Judges correlate TES with PCS: high TES aut…

All this talk about coaching changes made me wonder who are some successful athletes turned coaches. By successful athletes, I mean athletes who had some success in the international circuit i.e., won medals at major events like Olympics, Worlds, 4CC, European, GPF. When I say have some success of coaching athletes, I'm also talking about their pupils have some success in the international circuit as well. Of course Brian immediately comes to mind. As well as his partner in coaching crime Tracy Wilson who's a Olympic Bronze medalist herself. I'm keeping an eye out for Deniss Vasiljevs and how he develops to see if Stephane Lambiel can be included o…
