Since the general thread is moving like it's on steroids (which is fabulous, do carry on please, no doping tests present here), it is easy to get all the skating talk lost, including any and all information that we might receive, that others may want to catch up on quickly. So. Skating talk only please. -Layout talk -Practices talk -Competition discussion -you get the drift and I'm lazy. Skating info only please.

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to put this but does anyone actually skate themselves? I've started learning about a year ago, but only the last 3 months have been going every day (before it was on average once a week or two weeks, now it's 5 times a week although recently I'm slacking off ;_;) Just wondering how you guys are progressing, when you started, what can you do? As for me, I've been just doing basics like toe loop, waltz jump, salchow, loop, and some one-foot upright spins. It takes a lot longer than I expected and I still skate soooo sloowwww haha.

What are your favorite figure skating costumes? Yuna Kim's Giselle: I love this dress because it's so unique! Actually Yuna was one of the best dressed skaters, ever. All of her dresses were on point and fit her so well. source: flickr Gracie's beautiful Grieg dress: Gracie's presentation has always been top notch. She always looked beautiful and her dresses looked very couture with expensive crystals. source: sina And her El Choclo tango dress: I really like how simple this dress is, but the red underskirt and leotard give it a pop. What a unique concept I'm side-eyeing her hair roots, though. …

This is a topic that inevitably comes up because figure skating is a sport that needs to balance finesse and aerodynamics with strength and power. Based on some users' suggestions, I'm gonna start a separate thread to talk about it because not everyone wants to read it and so it doesn't derail other threads. Here are a couple of basic links I found about sports nutrition from USFSA: http://www.usfsa.org/content/2008 Elite Coaches Seminar-Nutrition.pdf https://www.usfigureskating.org/content/2009NutritionHandout-III-PreDuringPost 09Jan13.pdf http://iceskatingresources.org/NutritionFigureSkating.html And an article I found of nutritional is…

I open a separate thread for the Congress - it will be easier to follow which proposals will be accepted. The 58th ISU Ordinary Congress will take place in Phuket, Thailand on June 6 – 10, 2022. Every Congress sees major decisions about the future and direction of the ISU. In 2022 almost 250 proposals will be discussed and voted by the Congress. Additionally, elections for ISU Office Holders positions will take place. The Congress will be live streamed on YouTube. Full Agenda of the Congress with the proposals: Proposals of the S&PTC for changes in the ISU Constitution Candidates for ISU Officials: https://isu.org/docman-d…

I've come across wonderful fanart/tributes to other skaters but I feel it's a hassle to go to individual threads to post so here's a thread for it. I'll start with this great Nathan fanart. Congrats again on your win Nathan!

This interview is many things. But it’s mostly the story of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron’s free dance for the season that has just ended. That intense, emotional free dance that had people on their feet in Helsinki’s Hartwall Arena, at this year’s edition of the World Championships. That consuming performance that left them completely drained, hands on their heads, catching their breath – but happy, proud, relieved they made this program, and its music, work. Because with these two, skating is always about challenge – they do challenge themselves, and people watching; it’s about authenticity and flow; about ice dancing, and not just dancing on the ice. You’ll…

I am absolutely baffled by the fact that it seems like there will be no investigation into Eteri Tutberidze‘s team after all that has unfolded these Olympics. Kamila didn’t medal , which was convenient to sweep things under the rug, and with everything that is happening right now, Russian athletes won’t be allowed to compete anyway at Worlds. Is this how it’s going to end? The ISU is a pathetic organization all across the board. From judging scandals , to abuse, to even doping. Why is everything so discussed in a “hush hush, let’s not talk about, that was an outlier” way (hope you get what I mean)? There is obvious bias and corruption in the way the sport works, and if ru…

Nobunari Oda has made a blog post about his leaving his coaching position at Kansai University. He says he was suffering 'moral harassment' on the job and the university wouldn't do anything about it. The media falsely reported on it and said he was too busy to continue. I would say "who would treat a person like Nobu that way?" but as we see from recent discussions around the fandom, some don't need much of an excuse to mistreat or harass good people. https://ameblo.jp/oda-nobunari/entry-12531037719.html

Hi all. After my talk about Yuzu My niece and nephew want to try figure skating but my brother is clueless about what is involved. Could you please help? Bro wants to know what the costs would be for a 7 yo boy and girl and he has two delicate questions to ask: First I imagine that beginners would really only need skates, ice time and maybe a coach....am I missing anything? As to the delicate questions: Does figure skating require the boy to wear male athletic support? If so, where does one get that piece of equipment? I would imagine it would not be an issue at 7 years but later if he is good enough to jump then perhaps nep…
