I feel lucky and unlucky at the same time. The men’s short program starts at 5:15 PM in Vancouver, Canada. A really convenient time – too convenient. I have no excuse for avoiding it!

Nope! You have to suffer along with the rest of us!!!

I hope he doesn't put 4A in the competition and focus on winning instead. I would love him to see competing for another season with 4A ready.

For crying out lound, let him do his thing!  He needs the mileage on the 4A and he is getting the opportunity to do so, and if the olympics just happened to be along the way that's just the way it is.   His gritty determination is what has got him this far and survive all the pressure without losing his integrity!  Giving in to changing the layout in order to "win" would not be his style.   In any case, he looks to be in great shape and his other quads look so easy now.  I would be happy to go along this wild ride in whatever direction it may take us, and sometimes it may not be all roses and rainbows but that's part of the joy of travelling with Yuzu.

Regarding the 3F, he always used to have 3F in his 2 quad free program before 2018 so he knows ver well how to integrate that jump into the program.

People please, he will do the 4A, no need to think about possible layout changing. No, doesn't look ready, but he is true to himself, he will do it. Plus, we can be sure without it it's not enough anyway, he knows this. And he probably wouldn't be here without it. So let's just stay calm and enjoy it. I panicked before, now I'm super calm, he's gonna do what he's gonna do :)

I just managed to catch up on all of the posts and excuse me for being late in my comments regarding the above.

People do not understand who Yuzuru Hanyu is if they think that he is going to change his layout in order to increase his chances of winning his third consecutive gold medal. He has stated that he is going to attempt to successfully land the 4A at the Beijing Olympics. He has said that this is not just for himself but for all his fans and supporters as well. His declaration that he is going to Beijing to win his third consecutive gold medal came only after he was chosen for the Japanese Olympic team and he put on the official team jacket. He is determined to successfully land the 4A and win his third consecutive gold medal, but simply winning the gold medal is not his priority. His priority has always been to successfully land the 4A in competition and he has the opportunity to do so on the biggest stage of them all. Yuzu knows that the 4A is a very high risk/low reward jump element. He knows that his chances of winning are much greater with a quad loop and a high GOE, but the fact that he has been devoting his entire life to training the 4A since PyeongChang tells you that it would never occur to him to change the layout now to an easier jump.

I found the interview that Yuzu gave after his practice interesting. I think I got a better sense of his mental state because I was listening to it in Japanese and not just reading the words of the translation.

He looked entirely comfortable and relaxed during the interview. He did not appear nervous. It was almost too casual when he said that the "4A hasn't been successful so far, it's hard but I have a good feeling. It's axis and rotation are both good. I want to achieve it soon." Would he have been this casual if he was not confident of successfully landing it when it counts? Could he be trolling everybody?

Some people have expressed concern that the media will have a field day if Yuzu fails to successfully land the 4A and fails to win his third consecutive gold medal. I think that the last thing we should be worrying about is what the media is going to say.

The media will roast Yuzu whether he attempts the 4A or not. If he has an unsuccessful attempt, they will roast him. If he substitutes a successful quad loop, they will roast him for "chickening out" and going back on his word. If he does not get his third consecutive gold medal – well, it’s a Catch-22 all-around. The best course is to ignore negative media about Yuzu and treat it as the BS that it is.

I am nervous as hell, but I am going to put my trust and belief into Yuzu. I am hoping, wishing and praying for Yuzu to skate both his short program and free skate clean – so impeccably clean that even corrupt judging is hard put to diminish his efforts and achievements. Yuzu has the determination, talent and experience to dig deep and achieve amazing results. Remember all the trouble he had with the COD – “combo of death”? When it really counted, he made it look easy during his perfect “Hope and Legacy” free skate at 2017 Worlds when even the slightest error would have been fatal.

Go for broke Yuzu!

Wait they back to previous practice rink footage I had a scare for the 4A attempt I hadn't seen coming, stop going this can't we just follow current practice?
