Oh no, Vincent must be crestfallen. I'm sad for him and so worried for other athletes.

Amidst all this chaos, I forgot to say that Yuzu looked so gorgeous on ice today, his skating was so smooth although he was under huge pressure. I just wish for a clean perfect SP and a clean FS with a decent 4A<.

Maybe I'm delusional but I believe in miracles, especially for hardworkers.

I have hopes for a clean(ish) 4A<, too. I'm positive one of his attempts today was at least 4.25, and he was really close to landing it (probably would have been two-footed but still).

I know I am not the biggest Vincent fan, but I would never wish this upon anyone. I can't watch his video because I can't bear to see another person cry in front of me today (I work in a hotel and just had a woman tell me she has to leave early because her sister, who refused to get vaccinated, is dying of COVID and she has to go say goodbye).

Vincent deserved to have a chance to redeem himself on a big stage after worlds last year. He also should have showed why the USFA chose him over Ilia. EDIT: I'm actually also really concerned about his mental health. It sounds like he's been battling depression and given all the expectations of his family and his own, I just hope he has a good support system around him.

I just wonder how the hell he got it though? I am sure all of the athletes are being careful, but now I feel there's going to be a whole other layer of stress for all of them to avoid contact with each other as much as possible.

The team event had them all crammed together in a small booth, next to other athletes from other countries with no screen or any sort of distancing.  I’m sure a lot of athletes are being careful - I’m equally sure that there will be a number who aren’t - same goes for coaching staff, media staff etc.  Which is why I’m glad that Yuzuru didn’t do the team event and that he’s keeping everyone at arms length including his TCC coaches.  Tracy has been to the US with Jason, which was quite an odessey and got covid there, Brian has been to Korea, they’ve all been through airports and on flights - it’s actually a wonder that more aren’t testing positive tbh.  It’s sad for him but these are sad times - lots of people have missed once in a lifetime opportunities, events and celebrations.  At least he has his team silver.

Yuzu isn't stupid. I think there's a good chance that he'll switch it for 4Lo if he and Nathan are close enough that 4Lo vs 4A<< will make a difference to him winning. But if the scoring is so ridiculous he can't catch up with 4Lo anyway, then he'll go for 4A. or if Nathan has a bad skate and he can win even with 4A<< he'll go for it.

The only issue is if he hasn't trained 4Lo lately, but I guess we'll see

tbh, the fact that he hasn't showed 4Lo nor at Nats not here makes me think that, in his mind, there's no room at all for planB (planB being going back to previous 4Lo layout):smiley-scared003:

If he really is using 3F in place of 3Lo, well he'd net an additional half a point, really not that meaningful in BV (to rack points he would have had to use 3A3Lo in place of 3A2T too) but could be a way to show that he can still do toe jumps that aren't toe loops:laughing:  you never know if judges would take issue with an "unbalanced" layout in terms of edge vs toe jumps (tho iirc there have been layouts with 6 out of 7 jumping passes being fluzloops and judges loved them a lot. But flag was the correct one). A 3A3Lo was more wishful thinking on my part than something I truly believed Yuzuru would bring to comp. Now, it looks like the layout is fixed.

The way ISU scored clean LMEY in Stokholm made it pretty clear that Yuzu with his "usual" layouts will not be given enough points to surpass clean Nate, or even a Nate with a couple of mistakes. It shouldn't be like this, and yet. This is a reality that is out of Yuzuru's hands, sadly.

Yuzuru being fixated on 4A (even if very obviously the quality of the jump is still far from that of any other quad he's brought to comp previously) shows that he wants to go all in. Risk it all, yes, but at least for something that challenges him like no other thng could possibly can.

Even with the inherent much, much higher risk of getting BV chopped (and consequently GOE and even PCS) compared to a 4Lo layout, he's chosen to go for it. Whatever happens, at least he'll still be able to say he was doing something unprecedented, something beyond imagination. People may shred him into pieces and mock his choises and his dream, but I sincerely hope that he would at least be able to stand his own scrutiny.

I just have to pray that the 4Aattempt in comp will be the best it can possibly be and that Yuzuru will stay on his feet and everything else will be solid, so he'll be able to say he's truly given his all.

This is not new but I just read the full article today. It is both funny and meh. What a circus the ISU is.

Notable part

Duhamel insisted "you should not be allowed to be suspended, and your reward is working the next Olympics".

In response, the ISU

told insidethegames that Huang had been cleared to officiate at its events and the Winter Olympics after serving his ban as long as he abides by its code of ethics.

The organisation claimed it monitors the judging of all ISU figure skating events as part of its "robust evaluation and reporting procedure".

The process includes the appointment of the Officials Assessment Commission which the ISU claimed checks the behaviour of judges during competitions and reports any errors.

The ISU added that the procedure allows them to "focus particularly on cases that potentially show strong national bias through scoring".

"The cancellation of anonymity makes it possible to trace not only the quality of judging but also any bias,” the statement from the ISU added.

"Judges who make mistakes and/or are over marking skaters receive a warning and can be penalised by the ISU.

"It is the ISU’s priority to do its utmost to guarantee a fair result during any ISU event.

LMAO ISU is kind of good at lipservice, too bad it's all they can do :/

It's official. Poor Vincent. At least he has Team Silver, but still...

Vincent's Instagram post :

Note for those who are more emo, Vincent gets teary eyed from middle of vid onwards (understandable)

sorry for him, certainly not how I wish anyone to end their olympic journey.

Well, he has a medal at least, so he has something to bring back home, but for sure he wished to be able to do better in individual comp than what he could do in the FS, especially after all the criticism he got...

This also means that he was not a false positive, so must have gotten the virus from someone. It also means that everyone who shared ice with him has potentially been exposed to a very real +case too. Well, thankfully there were lots of masks used, but still, the worry is there...

I absolutely agree. If the situation were such that figure skating is still judged and scored fairly, then we could say that it might be smarter to not take too much of a risk and go a safer route to ensure an as good as possible outcome. In a world with fair scoring, Yuzu should be miles ahead even if he goes clean with just three quads of two types or even just two quads in the FS. But that is obviously not the case.

During the last couple of years, it has become clear that the ISU, US fed, and judges put Nathan on the pedestal as their chosen one. Their bias in favor of him has gotten so bad that even if he makes obvious mistakes, he still gets high scores. Yuzu tried to catch up to this ridiculous quad race game and it turned out that no matter what he did, it didn't matter because they already had decided who would be their champion.

Even I as a fan went through so much resentment over how Yuzu was robbed and Nate was showered with undeserved candies again and again. I can't even imagine how Yuzu must've felt to be disregarded, discarded, and disrespected like that. The message the ISU wants to send him is clear: we don't want you anymore.

I'm so grateful Yuzu started to take a different approach and stop vying for their approval. He still competes and as long as he competes, he will be judged and scored. But now he doesn't try everything he can to try to please the judges anymore. He knows that doesn't work anyway. No matter how he tried to play their game, they still screwed him over.

Now he plays his own game. And if his own game involves landing a 4A at the Olympics even if it might still be a bit shaky, then so be it. Making history is not an easy feat and never has been. If it were easy, everybody could do it. It takes outstanding mental, emotional, and physical strength and balance to achieve history making goals. It takes extraordinary courage, determination, perseverance, grit, and vision to do things no one has ever done before and go to places no one has ever been before. No one has ever carved their name into the history of any sport by playing it safe and not taking great risks.

Besides, the 4A has been Yuzu's dream since he was a child. That's his personal motivation to achieve it. He doesn't do it to win competitions or get high scores (which wouldn't make sense anyway because of the outrageously low BV). He's pursuing it to make his own dream come true. And if he has the chance to make his dream come true on the biggest stage and he wants to take it, then, by all means, he should go for it.

And this is one of the reasons why there are so many people in the world who love and admire Yuzu. He doesn't hold back. He doesn't play it safe. He doesn't just do the bare minimum. He isn't afraid to be and show his true self and do his own thing, no matter what other people might think or say.

This is his life, his career, his performance. He can do whatever he chooses. No matter what he should decide to do, I always support him and look forward to see more of the sheer divine skating he does. :heartpound:

Wow first Vincent made me teary now your words here have done the same!  These skaters, but especially Yuzu, bring out the emotion that's for sure!! :weeping:<3

VAMOS YUZURU!! (Oh I know, but I love the word Vamos!) give us your best shot tomorrow with beautiful Rondo then you can get down to business with that 4A!! :cheer:

Yes, the sad truth is that even if Yuzu skates clean with his "usual" layouts, the judges would probably rob him anyway and shower Nathan with candies. It shouldn't be this way, but that's the unfortunate reality right now. It was already decided long ago that Nate would be gifted the gold medal. And US media would keep on touting the narrative about Nate being the deserved winner and "quad kind" because he has all these high base value jumps etc.

Therefore, Yuzu really has nothing to lose. He can write history in Beijing and do something unprecedented. Whether it'll work out or not is not in his hands, just like there's nothing he can do about the scoring. I believe this is also why he decided to change his focus from winning competitions to pursuing his own goals. He is way above this whole dirty, corrupted system anyway.

I think he will go for the 4A because this is his chance to land it on the biggest stage. It's what his 4A baby deserves. I also don't think there is room inside his head for a plan B. He might not even have a plan B. Considering what he's been saying and showing the last few years, his goal of landing the 4A is too important for him to leave it out for the remote chance of pleasing the judges with a fully clean skate.

Whatever he will do, I just want him to be healthy, get a result he's happy with, and leave his third Olympic Games without any regrets. :ganba:

PS: No matter how corrupted the scoring has become, the athletes still have to show something in order to get medals. After all, it still has to look legitimate on the surface. Anything can happen. I believe that Yuzu can overcome all the obstacles thrown in his way and win the gold medal despite the biased scoring.

Little change for long program. Elements 'kind of' in same order.

Do we have the full layout for the FS?
