Ugh ... I'm so nervous and stressed ... he was alone, no Ghislain, right? ... I don't think is a good thing to be alone in these circumstances but he knows better ... ugh ...

It was entirely his decision to be alone. He has his reasons. We have to trust his judgment and believe in him.

Damn you guys the SP is in... four hours? Am I correct? Time to freak out, then, heh.

On the topic of scores I have to say that (and this is a popular opinion on here no doubt) the future of figure skating is in BIG trouble. The scoring is confusing and for casual audiences the ones who win often don't deserve it.

Watching the women last night with my boyfriend and co-worker (casual viewers) they were flabbergasted that Kamila won by thirty points over Kaori even with a fall. Kaori was the highlight of the night (my co-worker loved Karen too) and yet the technical system made it so Kamila was deemed "the greatest ever". Everyone talks of quads like they're the best thing every, but really casual viewers don't care. A perfect triple is just as good.

With tonight I am going to be curious (if Nathan and Yuzu both skate clean) what the reaction will be from general audiences. No doubt commentators are going to be talking about how they are the gold medal favorites, but will their performances match what the GA think of with figure skating? I think Nathan is boring to watch, I think of Kamila the same way tbh, but I will be curious the what the reactions of non-FS fans will be. If Yuzu skates clean but is placed below Nathan, will they think that's fair?

It hurts me to say this, but I'm afraid the way things are going now, there is no future for figure skating. I've already said it before, once Yuzu decides to leave this corrupt swamp behind, figure skating is dead. Yuzu will have a bright future in anything he decides to pursue. But figure skating in its present state has no future. That's quite a sad thing for me because I've been watching and enjoying figure skating since I was a kid.

I think the scoring is absolutely not relatable and very confusing for casual viewers. Casual viewers tend to judge performances as a whole. It's not just about technical elements, but the impression they get, the smoothness of the execution, the quality of the performance, as well as the emotions evoked. At least that was me as a casual viewer. Only when I became a Yuzu fan, did I finally make the effort to learn about the technical elements, the jumps, the scoring etc.

I agree with you, most viewers probably don't care if they see quads or triples. Heck, many casual viewers can barely differentiate between quads and triples, let alone different jump types. They just want to watch beautiful, well-executed programs and performances. And that's what has always made figure skating so special: the combination of technical prowess and beautiful performances, the whole package. If you have people doing only jump after jump with hardly anything in between except for waving their arms and kicking their legs, it's boring. People could watch other sports if they just want to see acrobatic skills.

And if you see a gorgeous performance by Wakaba at the team SP, beautifully performed and skated with heart, and then you see Kamila's SP and the latter gets 15, 16 points more, I believe this is absolutely incomprehensible for the general audience, not only for people who know how scores should actually work. The crappy tech box isn't helpful either, as it doesn't show the name of each single element done and doesn't break down the BV and GOEs.

I'm so nervous and excited for the SP, but I must say that these ungodly hours are starting to take a toll on me (the event will be broadcast 3 am - 7 am where I live). I suppose I could just watch Yuzuru and go back to sleep, but I also want to see Boyang, Donovan, Deniss, Shouma, Junhwan and Jason, so I don't think that's going to happen..(:

How are y'all Europeans coping with the time difference?

Anyway, I wish clean skates for everyone and I hope that Donovan manages to make the cut :please:

The time difference is really tough. I've been "practicing" the last couple of days by staying up late.

I think the adrenaline and excitement will probably help to stay awake.

I can't believe men's SP is gonna start in just a few hours! :smiley-happy093:

I love the new look !  As pretty as the rink.

I have a horrendous cold complete with conjunctivitis in one eye, but I’m going to try and last it out at least until the last group - may not be able to make my head last through Chen and Grassl tbh.

Re: scoring - I don't think that pushing the boundaries of technical content is inherently a bad thing. What's the issue is when technical jump based content is so highly valued in contrast to artistry that people are being blatantly overscored simply because their programs are packed full of quads (not to mention that half of quads jumped these days have awful technique that isn't called by judges). I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I do believe Kamila had a deserved win in the TE, but the margin between first and second was ridiculous. Did she deserve the gold? Yes. Did she deserve a 30 point win margin? Absolutely not. I could say the exact same thing for Yuma with his jump GOEs and frankly insane PCS, the only thing he deserved 9+ for in his FS was SS.

Same!  it’s just skating from one jump to the other and I have to agree, casual viewers have told me also they found Kamilla boring and didn’t understand the points. It’s so obvious to everybody, how long can this charade continue? How long will shady feds and characters (tutberidze e.g.) keep destroying the sport, I really wonder.

Yeah, of the 3 Russian ladies in Beijing Kamila is my last favorite to watch. No depth. She does have nice spins though

ALSO if Vincent tested positive and as a result couldn't go to TE medal ceremony no offense but why on earth was team USA allowed there at all? Given that they were all close in the kiss and cry/are in the same accommodation, there is risk of transmission so why weren't they isolating until tomorrow to be on the safe side

It would have deprived NBC of a profitable “USA! USA!” moment.

Good point. At this rate I reckon at least one more team USA will test positive by men's FS given how close they all were during the TEs

I am stressed :59227c768286a__s:

I became a fan of Yuzu 4 years ago, after watching his FS at 2018 olympics and now it's the olympics again, time really flies.
