As to why things have accentuated in the past week, it's a mix of Nam commenting that he doesn't think worlds is safe, the ISU updating their protocol to make it *more* lax than before (they now include a loop-hole if you test positive, you merely have to show that you were positive in the past before, as if that solved anything... or as if feds haven't been lying for months already, yk *colds and pneumonia*), having skaters sign a waiver that takes the responsibility away from the ISU if anything bad happens, and having no budget for any quarantine while spending money on the production of.... a song... which they proudly tried to promote in one of their most tone-deaf tweets to date. The last one was almost like they were trying to get people angry.

aka "since we know they'll all fail the test, we need to make a loophole so the Russians can still compete".

Sorry if I sound cynical, but really, is this a problem any other fed is likely to have? They're the ones who've been dropping like flies....

Cynicism totally warranted.  I think a dance team just withdrew. And at east one of their top men.  I'm pretty sure that Evgenia (not that she's in the team) will never be able to compete again.  And Anna Kostornaia is seriously ill.  And she's #1 in the world.  I believe that the RusFed thinks of all their skaters as disposable and interchangeable.

The only positive that I can think of the ISU catering to the Russians is that they are somehow favoring them (as opposed to favoring the Americans i.e. NC) so maybe Yuzu will get some fair scoring.

Sweden is currently have BIG spikes in their numbers and may have to re-think Worlds, but that presumes they were thinking at all.  If Yuzu goes, I would put money on him keeping a massive distance between himself and any of the Russians.

Posting this all over - if the ISU is really interested in having Worlds and having it be safe, they could move it, right now, to Australia.  They just hosted the Australian Open Tennis Tournament (with players from multiple countries).  They even had spectators.  A 14-day quarantine is enforced.  Why Sweden?  Move it someplace safe.

...after they cancelled 4CC there?

So many potential auntie Fanyus everywhere this week! This time it is my actual aunt too!

She came by for a visit today to see my mother and I was just rewatching Yuzuru's programs from JNats. She got a glimpse of my screen while she was walking behind me and stood next to me to see Tenchi with me. I had shown her Yuzu before and she even looked him up on Google on her own a couple of months back but today was the first time she saw him skate. At a point where the camera focused on his face she said "He's so beautiful and tall!"

Aaaahhh, if only it was this easy to make my mom a Fanyu too. :'3

Similar reaction when I showed Yuzu's JNats skates to my mum.

During the skate, she said "Wow! He is tall and his legs are so long. His jumps look easy."

In K&C, she said "how cute and funny he is when he plays with the Pooh bear."

My mom first watched him during PC Olympics fs on live. She also said the same thing when she saw Yuzuru.

'Woah, is figure skating a beauty contest as well?" when Yuzu did the Seimei starting pose.

My dad was like "Its just him. National heartthrob of Japan yeah" I didn't expect him to say that lmao:softYuzu:

Did Australia cancel or ISU? It's probably too late anyway, but it's as if they're trying to get people sick.

At the time our restrictions were very strict. They still are but we have been hosting sporting events like the tennis and cricket. I think 4CC perhaps could have gone ahead if it hadn't been cancelled so early but it would have been held to very strict standards, just like the tennis. I don't know that it would have been worth it for the athletes - I don't think I consider 4CC comparable to the Aus Open. Could we host worlds? Sure, especially without audiences. It would be safer than Sweden but also there'd be a bunch of backlash over an event that no one in the country cares about having border restrictions relaxed while citizens who have been stranded abroad for a year are still struggling to get home. The tennis was a bit different because it's a big event for Australia and we make a lot of money from it - but there was still plenty of unhappy people and a lot of the athletes weren't happy about the restrictions either.
