Sigh, now the armchair psychology comes in.

Anyways, something nice.

Highlight of the competition.

Nathan is going to be a huge contender, at least just from looking at the huge improvements in his sp.... which is why yuzu needs that lutz even if some say he does not. And, unlike last year where he splat a lot early, he is already landing his quads, albeit not squeaky clean. He is a confident guy, who seems to be able to forget the past and go forward without overthinking.

Expectations are a heavy burden... yuzu.... but perfection here would be a burden too, although I expected a small error rather than a fall.

From the replays I admit I thought yuzu's loop was UR, a smidge.... so if I think it might be, some judge might too...

well maybe the silver lining here is that next time people won't expect so much of yuzuru and he will face less pressure, while nathan, who is a really strong rival, will face more pressure.

I don't think the other men are all that consistent either. Who is more so? And I disagree that Yuzu is being victimized by the scoring. Today was just meh for him. Yes, other skaters will catch him if he makes mistakes, but that's okay, we already knew it. He shouldn't automatically win no matter what (that would be like the PChiddy heyday—oops, shh, I like him now).

Sorry,I just can't get over how out of it he seemed

I agree with this :/ something seemed very off.

And well, the score isn't bad, but it doesn't set a good precedent in terms of what he can do and what he's trying to accomplish this season :/

There's still work to do,  I guess.

Yeah.

Like, why do we even have an SP still? ;-)

TO GET THINGS LIKE A PERFECT CHOPIN IN A NEW COSTUME, AND SHOW MIDDLE FINGER TO ISU. *still salty about suggestion of technical and artistic programs*

The pooh rain!!!!! Big huge

Forecasters in Moscow won't have much to do: "Forecast: Heavy Pooh rain. Adviced caution while skating" good thing Yuzu skated last...this time xD. Poor Nate.

and then the commentator went on to say that showing Brian's face while watching yuzu skate is always a good choice

Tell me it isn't true...seriously, what happened with that project of having a Brian dedicated camera during his skaters' programs??

Hold one or two for sp in ACI hold 3 for FS...Maybe I should go back to 2..And I should have slept more...

the last one. It was because of the last one...maybe ewe should reduce Presents to one for every quad? Would make flower girls life easier...nah!

He can't afford to do this very often, though. If Nathan had gotten the PCS he got at US Classic, the difference to surmount would be even higher.

If Nathan had gotten the PCS he got at US classics, it still would be a Challenger event in his hometown(almost?). Kinda like Canadian Gold to anybody going with Yuzu to his first competition in Canada, and winning over him xD (Not saying they don't deserve that, most of the time :-))

A minute of silence for Nathan indeed...if Pooh rain from today was anything to go by, he will end up waiting for the ice to get cleaned much longer than the others, and it's definitely stressful :P

Yuzu's an emotional skater and very sensitive to the environment around him and, on top of that, trying to rework a pattern he's been following for years and years in the Grand Prix - I honestly don't think he could skate Chopin consistently as we had hoped.

I take it as a positive he's scored higher than he usually scores at this time of the year, is not popping (usually a sign he's really deep in his head - somehow I feel like if he's at least rotating his jumps, the mental overthinking hasn't taken as deep of a hold?) and has the opportunity to make up for it in the free. No doubt, he's going to be exhaustively analysing everything and hopefully shaping it into a weapon for tomorrow's skate and for future comps. Hang in tight guys, he can do it ;;

He's repeating both his programs, while going up against up and coming, young, hyped skaters, and fighting an inconsistency line. Take a look at Nathan today. Not near his top form, already at 42+ in PCS.

The SP is supposed to be the comfortable thing for Yuzuru, that allows for the 'play' in the FS with the Lz, and allows for the, in general, higher risk of more quads in the FS so that he can settle in with it while at the same time giving off a consistency vibe. Olympic season is brutal. There's no real room for too much of this. Actually there's almost no room.
Ok today happened, spilt milk and all, but hopefully they can sit down and figure out the problem so that this does not repeat.

Yeah, he cannot really afford to be inconsistent in a SP he's repeating for the third time, regardless of the changes he's done to it. And it's even more glaring after the ACI SP. So he's going to have to work on that because a 94 is not going to cut it at GPF, let alone the Olympics.

i'm just uncomfortable because i have this feeling that had the other men made the same mistakes as yuzu today they would have scored more than him. that's the No. 1 thing i fear the most - yuzu's mistakes mattering more than other people's mistakes.

No?

His 4Lo was UR and that costs you plenty.

His PCS was actually really high. I am not sure any other man apart from Javi maybe would get 46+ for a fall and a mess.
