i'm just uncomfortable because i have this feeling that had the other men made the same mistakes as yuzu today they would have scored more than him. that's the No. 1 thing i fear the most - yuzu's mistakes mattering more than other people's mistakes.

as we all know ...

I think we are.

Especially Nathan and US Fed. That was a really good short for him. Very very smart choice. If he keeps skating like that that, the publicity/politicking will increase, and with his TES it will be very hard to win with any mistakes.

Okay, I guess I'm the odd one out?

Short of Yuzu going god-form clean (aka breaking or nearly breaking WRs left and right), he's probably going to usually lose to Nate in the SP if Nate lands everything cleanly.  Because SP is just the program that is merciless if you make mistakes of any type, which all hit Yuzu's GOEs and PCs. And SPs of Nate are on average, fairly clean. Same with Shoma, Javi. So Yuzu really can't make mistakes. Today was a lesson, a painful one.

He seemed so OFF the entire program. And so very slow...I feared the worst(=bombing WTT '17 style),so rn i'm subjectively happy-ish/relieved by the result. But objectively, this is quite disappointing,he will have to do so much better than this if he really wants to be up there at the top.The very idea of repeating Chopin was the comfort and reliability this SP gave him(=to have those 100-105 points locked every time he skates no matter what),not this.I was afraid he was going to hit the board after the 4Lo(idk maybe it was just the camera angle) and,as strange as it may sound he also looked to me like he was afraid when he went for the combo so i wasn't that surprised it ended how it ended. If there is some twisted notion in his head that he does better in the FP when his SP is not that good, that idea needs to go asap,it's a fatal misconception to have in the current men's field imo.Sorry,I just can't get over how out of it he seemed,I hope pressure hasn't started to affect him deeply already.

Hmmm. Not liking him going before Nathan but we'll see.

now pressure is on Nathan with Pooh rain's power

Nathan is going to be a huge contender, at least just from looking at the huge improvements in his sp.... which is why yuzu needs that lutz even if some say he does not. And, unlike last year where he splat a lot early, he is already landing his quads, albeit not squeaky clean. He is a confident guy, who seems to be able to forget the past and go forward without overthinking.

Expectations are a heavy burden... yuzu.... but perfection here would be a burden too, although I expected a small error rather than a fall.

From the replays I admit I thought yuzu's loop was UR, a smidge.... so if I think it might be, some judge might too...

I'm not surprised because this was followed by his magical WR last month at ACI. The contrast between that skate and today's skate was too huge so perhaps the judges would judge him more harshly. That he still got +3 for his 3A tells me that at least the judges will give credit where it's due.

oh well... and add this to another sp that I won't rewatch :slinkaway:

ya same. maybe lack of practice? bc of the 4lz

i think he's just nervous lol after all 4lo in chopin change the program's rythm whereas 4s in chopin is practically already imprinted in his legs, its a good thing he forced himself to land it rather than just 2lo it like in ice shows, small victories

look, i know ppl expect a clean streak, n honestly me too, but take a deep breath, its not the end of the world, and at least he smiled :)

(imo the ur on 4lo lowered his tes a lot, he just needs to learn to land that one clean while nervous as heck)

is that the lowest score of 2 quads Chopin in history?

Sigh, now the armchair psychology comes in.

Anyways, something nice and cute.

Yuzuru was never like that, though, wasn't he? I mean, I think all of you old time fans (I'm in since last year so I don't know anything) kind of expected him not to go full out and win everything in october, right? If it's his pattern, I can take it... since it has worked so far (injuries aside) to make him win what was important for him.

He's repeating both his programs, while going up against up and coming, young, hyped skaters, and fighting an inconsistency line. Take a look at Nathan today. Not near his top form, already at 42+ in PCS.

The SP is supposed to be the comfortable thing for Yuzuru, that allows for the 'play' in the FS with the Lz, and allows for the, in general, higher risk of more quads in the FS so that he can settle in with it while at the same time giving off a consistency vibe. Olympic season is brutal. There's no real room for too much of this. Actually there's almost no room.
Ok today happened, spilt milk and all, but hopefully they can sit down and figure out the problem so that this does not repeat.
