I’m glad Mako got on the podium. To able to skate well right after Sasha epic jumps. :cheer:

Depending on how they continue on to Senior, Russia might just get the next Team Gold.

I mean:

  • Ladies: Gold, Silver
  • Men: Gold, Silver
  • Pairs: complete sweep
  • ID: Gold, Bronze

Phew!

The only question is, of course, the men. Among other reasons, cz they tend to be greedy and want too many results too fast.

well, I think we are going to keep our dominance among ladies, but the other three disciplines are less prone to change (thank goodness), so there might be an element of unpredictability there. For the sake of the sport, I hope for some parity there.

I just see skating skills among Russian skaters leave much to be desired for. Skaters like Kostornaya or Kolyada are few and far between...

The thought of having witnessed THAT live will keep me happy for a long time.

Will post again, have to recuperate first :embSwan:

Have to agree wholeheartedly with you there. I've read once someone said that they 'would rather watch the like of Ivett Toth than any of the Russian swans'. Then we get the swans domination in the ladies, and I just. Yeah. Not to belittle the achievement, but gosh. I am not making sense. Sorry:1:

The junior ladies are again the most exciting competition , there so much talent and I hope they all have a bright future  :smiley-happy105:

Congratulation to the medalist and especially to Trusova who made history today. Whether she keeps her jumps is a question for the future but today she was amazing and deserves to be celebrated   :smileys-cheerleading-867900:

Mako is really growing on me. I found her unremarkable the first time I watched her but that has been changing and I really liked her calm and cool performance today :tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:

My heart goes out for Rika...those 3A's, it looked like she slipped off the take off edge or something.

But Sasha...man, her TES can give senior men's a run for the money, and that's with 1 less jumping pass. Imagine what would happen if she had another jumping pass.

To those who watched QQ live, new nicknames for the Russian girls. Sasha's normal nickname in Chinese is read as Shasha, where the character is pronounced the same as the first chinese character for Tsar. So now her new name is "Tsar"-and QQ live had a lot of people saying how the Tsar slayed tonight.

Alena's nickname is "飞天“-roughly translates as 'fly to the sky" which I'm not sure how she got it, maybe it's for her jumps' sizes.

Otherwise, knock on wood-hope all the ladies we see now all deal with puberty well. Because if so, Beijing 2022 ladies is going to be legendary.

One less jumping pass and one less choreo sequence!

So, I had to pause the stream for a while and I've just come back and finished to watch. A few thoughts:

1) who stole all the 3As?😱😱😱😱😱

Poor Rika, what an awful moment to lose the easiness of her beautiful axels :sadPooh: Don't surrender girl, this kuyashii will only make you stronger:sadPooh:

2) great skate from Mako! I'm so happy for her:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: Kinda a surprise bronze (Rika:tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid:) but so deserved! Happy thst both her and Yuhana got SB, after the boys had such rough skates but Rika!:tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid::tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid::tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid:

3) beautiful Alyona, her fs is so lovely, everything flows so well, I love it:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

Too bad for the step out. Still, she landed everything and skated with beauty and purpose.:tumblr_inline_mfy92hO4sm1qid2nw:

IMO she should have been way ahead of Sasha in at least 4 out of the 5 components. In Sasha's fs the placement of both quads where previously she a only did 4S hit her choreo, up to the start of stsq she looked out of sync with her music (or maybe the stream messed things after I pause it, but then she suddenly was hit time her cues again:shrug:). It wouldn't have changed the placements at all, of course, but still worth pointing out (I really liked the explosion of the music with her 4S, but today it kinda got lost between the 4S landing and the 4T take off...)

4) little Sasha the quad queen (legit title imo, she is definitely pushing the sport):bow::bow: what a moment to finally land all those quads cleanly! (And with much more flow than some men tbh:animated-smileys-hands-fingers-01:)

And after that feat, to go through the rest of her program with such ease, and landing her loop combo too... if Zhenya and Alina have nerves of steel 2.0 she is well headed to 3.0:tumblr_m9gcttgdYF1qzckow:

Great!

5) I love all these girls, they are all so strong and brave:tumblr_inline_mzx8t1Yuvn1r8msi5:

I'm really thrilled about the next few years. They could really bring a revolution to ladies skating (it already started, the average tech has already increased for ladies). The new rules are going to have a major impact on ladies for sure tho.

I don't know about the others, but I can see Sasha challenging herself with quads despite the new rules. And I can see Rika do the same. It's great that both had the chance to gain some competition experience with those hard jumps with the current more "lenient" rules, it's likely it will be harder for the other girls who want to try those jumps when a mistake will be much more costly.

6) Praying for not too traumatic puberty for all the girls:snonegai:

Well, still not recovered but will post this for now, before watching the videos or anything, so it doesn't distract me from my live impressions. (I had forgotten how different and good it feels to watch high level competitive skating live and now will have withdrawals forever....) Came to this competition with hopes of Alexandra Trusova landing things and winning and got away with the best podium I never knew I needed :10742290: The ladies truly is the most interesting junior event. Even the first group of ladies was more of a enjoyable and exciting to watch than the junior men before.

SASHA :13877886:..... Thank you for blessing us with that. No matter what happens next, she will always have her little portion of history from today :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: She blew the roof off the arena, got a standing ovation and absolutely everybody thought she deserved it. Could say a million things more but will keep them for now. Love, love, love.

Alenka, just beautiful. Converted me with these two skates. Also shows that a fully backloaded program can feel easy and not at all rushed.

Mako!! Another one to watch. Not easy to skate after what happened just before but she did her job well. Loved the program, the dress complimented her movement, wide sleeves can sometimes hide lines but not here. I'm writing hers and Alena's entries last and am tired and at a loss for words already but I loved both of them. Medaled deservedly.

EUNSOO :tumblr_inline_mzx8zzarLt1r8msi5: my heart! She is an angel! That dress was mesmerising in person. Her skating was fast and steady but so elegant and light too! What a nice start to the last group and such a big difference from everything before. My non-skating friends told me how you had to sit through the first groups to actually appreciate how much better it gets in the last and I agree, I like the buildup. Anyway, she's my revelation from these jworlds... Would've had her above Konstantinova.

About Stanislava, I didn't like that program on her, choreo felt a bit overdramatic and in comparison to the other AK this season falls flat... She has nice qualities tho and would love for her to explore a better range of performance styles. Also the people around me loved her.

Rika... I liked this program for her a bit better than her SP. Sorry about the axels and sad that I didn't see the ones she landed in the warmup (seriously, how do people manage to look at all the skaters simultaneously??)

Yuhana was very energetic and the people around me loved her too! I gave a lil side-eye to whoever pushed a burlesque program on her but if you ignore that, she managed to keep up with the dynamics of the music very well  Also she joined the other Japanese kids and cheered on the last group. One of the lovely things of having such an empty arena is that all the skaters etc were just sitting right there next to us and the ambiance was more easy-going

Young You, missed her yesterday and judging only from today's skate, didn't really capture me in comparison with others but there is room to grow. I liked how she stayed in character even when she bowed and how the theme of the program was quirky and age appropriate!

It's been great for years, as a matter of fact. And I'm not sure Sasha will be able to take part in the senior competition.

I thought this year was especially good. And it wouldn't surprise me if she could participate this year, seeing how they've let 14 year olds participate before.

What new rule? I'm not updated on any rule changes other than for the Men.

I haven't watched the competition, just some short videos. I'm happy for Sasha on achieving such a milestone. However, unless she's going to turn senior immediately and qualify in age (she's 13 right?) I don't see her being able to keep her quads after puberty. Her legs are kind of crooked when she jumps so it slows her down actually. She's able to get the rotation because she's tiny. Maybe she'll fix it in order to keep it later. Still wow what an achievement.
