[2018] World Championships Men Free Skating

Who has ice cream? I just opened the men's protocols. I need it, lots of it (even though I'm lactose intolerant)- rum raisin, dark chocolate, coffee or citrus sorbet preferred.

On the other hand, it's nice to see that even without falls, judges are willing to give Nathan -GOEs for not so stellar landings. So all hope is not fully lost yet (same with SP). As for tech panel, well maybe they just decided that after that long splatfest, they'll just throw up their hands and call it a night unless the last man also splats. Actually, have to ask, during the GP series, even with not so stellar landings, did Nate ever get -GOEs on jumps that he landed? I don't recall seeing it, so maybe this is also a trend, with some judges firing back about jump quality concerns.

*mental theater after reading protocols*

In a darkened room, with a glowing computer screen, a young japanese man glares. He flips open his cell phone and calls.

Far away in Spain, Javi feels a chill wind creep across his back, despite the sunshine coming through his bedroom window. His phone rings.

"Hey,” a familiar voice sounds on the other end. "We need to go back to Toronto."

Javi rubs his eyes, feeling the potential headache incoming. This tone was too familiar when a certain someone was fired up.

"Javi..." A whine sounded on the other end.

"Okay okay, but I'm not competing the full GP series." Javi tried to bargain.

"Javi..." The whine definitely started sounding like a low growl. "We need to save figure skating."

Ah. So this is how it played out, eh. I'm actually pretty chuffed for Chen's win. His scores, well, can't say I'm overly surprised, with what he got at PC. And Uno, well, it was a well-fought showing for him so kudos to him as well, I suppose.

All in all, the men's event in this competition was nowhere near the wonder that was the pairs event and how well the ladies' event turned out. Would have been a much better event for me had Chen won with more reasonable scores because he did do good out there, by his standards...but very obviously not so good as to deserve those scores. And even better had they judged everyone with less glaring double standards. It could have been a decent event even with all the notable absences and mishaps. But it wasn't. Instead, it was underwhelming not in how the performances went but in how things finished up. Which means it wasn't underwhelming because of the skaters themselves. It was underwhelming because the judges and the tech panel didn't exercise as much integrity as they could and should have.

Oh well, there's got to be at least one dud of an event in each championship, right? Even for the events that turned out good, it's usually due to the choice being taken out of the judges' incompetent hands, anyway. That is, incompetent in terms of doing the sport the justice it deserves, but very competent in...something else that's not judging.

Good thing the Olys men's event went as well as it did. Cos we at least to have that to fawn over still. And the ladies' event at this competition. ^__^

I feel like praising Yuzu so I'm saying this again.

The general splatfest that happened at both events in Milan highlights how really remarkable it was for Yuzuru to win Worlds right after winning GPF and Olympics in the same season. And he did it at 18/19 years old. It's completely understandable that skaters are exhausted at this point- his mentality and strength is the rare exception, not the norm. He's that incredible. How ironic that some people insist on picking him out for being "inconsistent".
Of course, there were some exceptions like Wakaba, who didn't go to PC and Chen who did well today but bombed terribly a month ago.
The only skater who was able to deliver at both Olympics and Worlds was Kaetlyn. Kudos to her

We get top 6 : Nathan-Shoma-Kolyada-Bychenko-Kazuki-Deniss. Bychenko might retire after this so it push Aliev into the seed. So

- Assume that Yuzuru will do GP, he might get SC & NHK

Nathan : SA & NHK

Shoma : COC & TEB

Kolyada : SC & COR

-IF Yuzuru skips GP :

Nathan: SA&TEB

Shoma : SC & NHK

Kolyada : COC & COR

I think Kazuki will get NHK, Deniss and Aliev will get one Eu GP each

Boyang will do SA & COC again.

So where you gonna put him at ? Shoma and Yuzuru can' be at the same event, and Kolyada is lock for COR. Another option that could avoid is

Nathan : SA & TEB

Shoma :  COC &NHK

Kolyada : SC & COR

<-- In this case Yuzuru will get SC&COR. But Shoma have to do back to back event, I'm not sure he want it.

idk,i haven't studied the issue, but i can't possibly see them inviting him, their purpose is to facilitate, not complicate their skaters'access to the GPF.personally i think yuzu is gonna skip the gp season even if fully healed, but that's just my opinion and the reason i didn't think too much about the assignments

If Yuzuru fully healed, he will do GPs. Idk, it depend on him and many other factors. Again, my prediction is just for fun   I think even if Yuzuru skips GPs, they still put him on the roster and WD later, just like Sui/Han last season.

Anyway, Can I get CiONTU tomorrow ? I need some healing contents.

I made a wish n prayed that if nate won worlds skating gods should grant me that one wish n now im 👀 at skating gods, it doesnt guarantee my wish coming true but 🙏🙏🙏 bc I (n a lot of other ppl judging from where I read) would be really, really overjoyed. Pls come through 🙏

You know what actually, from after the sp i actually didnt mind nate winning this lol maybe bc while i dont agree with his opinion regarding skating, i like him as a person enough n personally i can't say the same with that other us man that almost podium, so him podium-ing would actually be my nightmare, while nathan winning worlds has always been within my expectation lmao

If Yuzu is competing next season he will do GP.  I know he's not fixated on setting records, but one more GPF gold gives him a record no one else has - 5 GPFs.  Plushy has four non-consecutive, and Yuzu's record would be four consecutives, plus a fifth.  Besides, the GP series was interrupted by his injury and so it's unfinished business for Yuzu.  I really think if he's back to full strength he'll do a very full season, going after the GPF he didn't get last year, going after the Japanese championship he didn't get the last two years (flu one year and injury this season), going after the 4CC he's never been able to nail, and going after the World Championship he missed this year.  It's well known that Yuzu just loves to skate and also loves to compete.  If the injury is history he'll go full-tilt.

Nah, no way is he going to skip the GP season.

He's going to be extra pumped too, he had 4 consecutive GPF wins and then had to WD. He wants that back, I can bet on it.

So, you have already said everything. Very glad to have seen live the performances of Deniss and Tomono: they saved my saturday morning.

Also the first part of Dima FS was good from my point of view and some other performances of the first groups were nice, too: with a crowd so generous in clapping and cheering the atmosphere seemed set for very good thing for the last group.

If Keegan had not the same brilliant skate of Nats, Shoma and Boyang really broke my heart. Boyang was setting for the jumps always to late and coming always to close to the borders. The first lutz was under my seats and it was really scaring (and he tried the distance several times during the warm up, so...?).

When also Vincent splatted all over too the atmosphere was really so down that I could not enjoy the comp of Nathan. However his program also live feels a bit empty to me, and he was not so fast as I could have imagined. The first two jumps were good, very much less the others (and to me there was a couple of UR too).

I understand from where his score comes (see his Oly score already 215 etc. when he was so behind in the comp, plus the PCS given to some other skaters before him here...); still he didn't perform or at least I didn't see it or feel anything seeing him skating. So, to me there's no way his PE and IN scores could surpass the 9s. I don't speak about SS, because it's clear that I don't understand how the judges score them (or I do understand but if so it's a joke, a cruel joke for the skaters...).

Congratulations to the winners of the last comp of this strange season and to all the others that could put there a performance that they can be proud and/or happy for.

Well I always say sometimes people (including fan) underestimate him as a competitor. The pressure of OGM is no joke, Yuna also bomb her SP at WC10. And in an interview, Adelina said that people always expect OGM to be perfect, they don't have right to make mistake. It takes a special mental strength to handle that That said, one of the reason why I think Yuzuru skated well at Saitama was he did not treat the Sochi as a win. He regreted about that LP alot and its his motivation for the last 4 years.

I'm very curious to hear what's Yuzuru, Javi, Patrick and Brian thought about this event. And I miss Patrick's shade about quads too

Ahhhh, I need to watch H&L to cleanse my soul.

I am extremely mad about the 219 score...
