Will Brian be able to handle both Yuzu and Boyang though :13877886:

Good question, but it was kind of strange that he didn't get a "kick in the butt" by his coaches. Chinese coaches aren't exactly softies, unless they thought he did well enough at Olys and decided to spoil him. I don't even want to know what Zhao's face looks like after this, and poor Boyang, what a way to remind one that skating while "small fed/not big 3" means you get nothing if you don't go clean.

On the other hand, I'm not really that surprised by Nate's win- his BV is high enough that he could have fell 2-3 times and probably still win. The skating order, plus other guys bombing probably helped him get his PCS. If Shoma went clean, he probably would have still pulled 87+ (for essentially a 80-82 PCS skating). But really, without Javi, Yuzu, Patrick in competition, and other guys bombing, it's not shocking at all that PCs just went haywire. Well, when the Olys went relatively clean, we should have expected some bombing to balance it out later on-that's how the universe works for men's....

Real question tho, if Yuzu lands a 4A, can Nathan really be considered the quad king anymore?

Sure, let him keep that title, cause honestly, I don't consider "quad king" to be flattering. While it does state that you can jump the most it also kind of indicates it's your (only) best selling point. Meanwhile, Yuzu is still considered the king, the goat of figure skating, indicating he's the perfect package.

Not to mention Mr. "quad king" doesn't even have the best quality jumps, just the highest success rate. Quality still goes to Yuzu (with all his +3 GOE'S)

I'll surely follow your advice, watch the good ones and pretend all the rest didn't happen :thanks:  I was looking forward for Deniss to have a clean skate and a good event to finish the season so I guess I'll force myself to be happy with that (and ignore the scores) and look forward to a smiley Stéphane

Better re-watch the entire Olympics than watch this WCh.

Whispers:

Spoiler

I don't even want to know what the American media are saying about Nathan now I suspect I would be raging.

I'm starting to think 3+ quad programs are not maintainable without Yuzu in the field to shield the pressure and pull everyone up.

and what does that mean for men's FS once he's not there anymore

i think we might be witnessing how multiple quads programs season after season over the span of years are starting to affect the skater.we haven't had such a situation until now,so we can't say for sure, but there seem to be some signs.i mean it's all nice and dandy for a few years at the beginning, but i fear their efficiency, overall quality and even the longevity of their careers might really suffer from that.i can't forget how javier,a top skater who didn't have significant injuries over the last few years and only does the two ~simplest~ quads said that it's already so hard for him now when he has to do them,i don't even want to think who it is/will be for the rest of them.

i think this year gpf and worlds were a terrifying sneak peek into the dire landscape of the post yuzu era.but things are cyclical and Yuzu Era has been the true Golden Era of men's figure skating,he has been the game changer,a once in a life time talent, intelligence, knowledge, hard work, accomplishments, excellence, holy presence and charisma reunited in one person who heavily impacted those around him, even if some ppl can't/refuse to see that yet.

3.5 for TR, I will stick to that till my dying breath which will be hastened by the whole figure skating judging thing anyway, my poor heart.

So Shoma got

GPF: Silver

4CC: Silver

Olympics: Silver

Worlds: Silver

Pretty stable season.

Consistent.

Actually Shoma should have gotten gold at the GPF.  He had a one-point time deduction.  If he hadn't had that he'd have beaten Nathan.
