  1. . . . . .what utter nonsense is this???
  2. Options are: blatant favouritism with a conscious choice to judge him unfairly and wrongly, either thinking the public wouldn't realise, or not caring if they did. OR someone made a mistake and screwed up but since in figure skating there's no such thing as retrospectively changing the score on review or anything, they then tried to find some bullshit reason to cover their ass. So at best they are incompetent, at worse they are corrupt. Very likely they are both.
  3. Apparently more news has emerged regarding the latest ridiculousness that isu has come up with.
  4. https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/10/27/yuzuru-hanyu-wins-skate-canada/amp/?__twitter_impression=true So I didn't intend to post at all (because I feel ashamed that I basically am now a part time swanyu who can only catch comps because LIFE), but someone tell me if NBC is really at it again or whether I'm just being sensitive? "Hanyu prevailed over a field lacking any of the other top-10 skaters from last season" (that's like normally the case for the early part of the GP though??) "The two-time Olympic champion, with four quadruple jumps in his free skate en route to 322.59 total points, only upped anticipation for showdowns with American Nathan Chen to come later this season." (Because clearly they had to pull the attention back where it belongs) "Meanwhile, the American Chen ascended to win the last two world titles, outscoring Hanyu in their last three head-to-head programs dating to the 2018 Olympic free skate" Nothing they wrote is false, but its the subtle spin on the language choices? Or maybe this is all perfectly reasonable and I'm just being sensitive but for some reason in reacting strongly to this article...
  5. I'm like, yay! But also slightly kind of rolling my eyes at how he changed his tune when he found out it's a tribute to him
  6. Well tbh it's difficult to compare since new system. That said, even comparing scores within this season it's still lol.
  7. 1) it's finally been confirmed ... I've been stalking this thread waiting for this announcement.... I'm feeling so mixed right now. P.s. sorry for disappearing. Real life got hard and crazy but also watching Yuzu on crutches broke me for a little while again. 2) I'm not sure why nathan/shoma fans are happy. Sure their favs are more likely to win, but just like last year's WC and GPF, there's going to be that talk of "robbing an empty house"/"yeah but if Yuzuru had been there...."
  8. Well yeah but those have been like FaOI or other Japan ice shows, not so much as a guest of their personal ice shows right?
  9. Okay. Scenario. Yuzu for some weird reason bombs the SP. Or at least isn't happy with his score, or feels threatened for first place. At the same time Dimitri lands Nessie in practice. Yuzu, who's already kyushi and deliberating all his options for YOLOing his way to victory, suddenly decides that Nessie is a risk worth taking. BAM HISTORY MADE. (Please don't kill me... )
  10. Something just occured to me. There's a possible unfortunate side effect to Yuzu's stardom. He will always be the star of any ice show he is in. Which is great for us, but does mean that if it's another skaters ice show (rather than a general ice show, if that makes sense) he might inevitably pull the spotlight away from the "main skater", which in itself would be unfortunate, but that risk may also mean there are some skaters who might avoid inviting him for that very reason....
  11. Oh wow. That looks complicated. I really just understood it in a much simpler way. Since the axel is jumped facing forward, if a skater is pre-rotated by 180° he would be facing the other way, and would no longer be facing forward, but facing backwards instead, and hence it wouldn't even be an axel.
  12. Current murder face next to baby murder face is everything!!
  13. I loved those commentaries! And it's going to mean something when they eventually do say that he has skated perfectly, has skated his best! Like when Max basically gushed and yelled in elation over Worlds 2017 FS. Personally it was the best reaction, one I was especially proud of as a fan, one that actually meant something, because I knew he was a commentator who knew his stuff, who doesn't praise without reason, who is a stickler for quality.
  14. So, I know it's off topic, but I have a thought that may not go over well... I've felt really uncomfortable during Helsinki, and since, whenever people (commentators, journalists, other skaters) are like "that was the best of Hanyu" or "that was perfection" or "that was flawless", especially regarding his FS. Because, actually, no. That performance, while beautiful and amazing for a first competition for Yuzuru, was not his best, was not perfect, he still has stuff to work on, something that he very clearly knows and accepts. I wondered why I felt such a knee jerk negative response to said comments, and I realise it's because it feels like it cheapens his truly great outstanding performances, and makes it feel like people are saying that not because it's true but because he's Yuzuru Hanyu. Thoughts?
  15. I refuse to read it because I know it'll just piss me off. I already downright hate (And I genuinely do not use that word lightly in this context) nbc and the US sports media's mentality regarding figure skating, I don't want to make things even worse.... the mentality just drives me nuts and makes me want to *mimes chocking someone *
  16. Well, he hasn't ALWAYS skated this smoothly, but it's definitely a trait of his in his senior years, and one that sets him apart from the field. It's something that is currently unique to him alone in the men's field, the ability to make his jumps come out of no where, and seem like part of the choreo. It's why his GOE is so high. It's why he won the Olympics with the two lowest value quads. He doesn't take half a rink to set up a jump, he jumps from complicated set ups (this season, from twizzles, from a freaking hydroblades). And it all stems from his solid foundation, the way he (And team TCC) have placed emphasis on his skating skills and edgework and the cores of figure skating. And his textbook perfect jump technique of course. Before Javi retired, he and Yuzu were noticeably smoother on the ice than all their competitors. And now? He's basically alone in his fluidity on ice.
  17. he's not singing! He's DKS-ing!! (Demonic Karaoke Singing) (if you understood that reference, maybe my posts in the Helsinki fluff post actually went somewhere lol)
  18. Oooooooo so things might be further back then we thought for Yuzu! I thought he was waiting because he needed to focus on his current layout to skate clean to win. But if he's talking about feeling like he's hit a wall..... That speaks of something quite different.
  19. Yeah I felt bad, but honestly I legit laughed when I heard that Dimitri said he was putting it in his free skate is Rostelecom! Because in general the quality of his jumps aren't the greatest. It feels like he is going to just try it, because what's there to loose? If he fails, whatever. If he manages to somehow fully rotate one and stay on his feet, he makes history! And given that he doesn't really have any other claim to figure skating history at present, he's got nothing to loose. That said this is purely all my completely outsider, knee jerk reaction. Who knows? Maybe he's a lot further on than I think he is....
  20. I can already imagine us at CoR and beyond: "is Yuzu here yet? Is he DKCing at the side??"
  21. Especially not when other skaters have announced they are gunning for it as well! The feeling I get is that he REALLY wants to be the first one to land it!
  22. Demonic karaoke concert!!! that's it! I'm calling it that from now on! "And by the rink side, two time Olympic gold medallist Yuzuri Hanya is engaging in his usual pre-competition routine of carrying out a solo demonic karaoke concert! His murder eyes are chilling all around him and his competitors are clearly refusing to meet his eyes. Wise move that."
