I'm really annoyed because this is unfair to these girls, too, really.

I mean, look at it. Zhenya? She got PCS she didn't deserve in her first senior year. So what happened? Now that she has improved her skating and performance skills a lot, that improvement is not reflected in her scores. Because where's the room? Same thing will happen with Alina, because they're sure that they have new and improved versions coming up who will get that same PCS boost with higher TES, and there's room enough in ladies' skating for that to go on for a few years, unlike in men's skating. Where can Alina go from here? She can get maybe 3-5 extra points, for the rest of her career? Is that all the improvement she will show from the time she is fifteen until she retires?!

But that indiscriminate politicking PCS boost in the beginning only works when these girls are treated like they have an expiration date for their winning ways.

Well, very few ladies last through 2 olys cycles, so for ladies at least there is definitely an expiration date, which is possibly also why most female winners of the Olys were around 20 or under. Arakawa being the giant exception. Most ladies retired around 23 or so.  The other issue is that TES for ladies has been stagnent, so unless judges differentiate significantly in the PCS area, we won't have any clear cut winners the way the ISU wants us to have. I'm hoping that with the backloading and the quads and 3As incoming, we'll see less PCs inflation, because there's less need to do that now (though now I guess is time to feel bad for Rika, Sasha and Anna and Alenka etc because they might lose out on the PCS boost era).

Of course, Zhenya is free to become the next Irina Slutskaya in terms of competitive longevity.

I am excited for Kihira and Trusova. I might be invested too deep again because I'm such a masochist.  How to be you?

In the next season I'll probabily be more incested in ladies, unless some upcoming jr steals my fanyu heart :P

I'more into Kostornaia and Tarakanova, and miss 3A Rika, too, but Sasha is a little monster too... and Anna who did outrageously well in the last comp too. Jr words will be in a few weeks, if swan won't kill us we can die then  (but no Tarakanova, I'm so sad) :sad-smiley-046:

Monumental in a different kind of way.

Oh I see, lol.

Glad to hear Evgenia will try for the next Olympics, may the force be with her and may she turn into a true figure skating queen.

there was no difference between the edges that kaori, kaetlyn and evgenia took off on for their lutzes and yet only one of them got an e and the base value reduction, one of them an ! and one of them nothing at all  i like that kaori was called because i want her to be motivated to fix the only flaw (imo) that she has concerning her jumps, but it just isn't fair when other blatant wrong edges are ignored.

congrats to the medallists, its too bad that medvedeva couldn't win the only major gold she doesn't already have, and it's really sad that 1. she was injured in such an important season and 2. that it meant she couldn't compete at the gpf earlier in the season. defeating zagitova there may have slowed down her pcs rise going into europeans and the olympics, and she could have been standing with silver now, if the circumstances were just a little different. while i wouldn't choose to rewatch their programs, their mental strength is killer and one of the best talents to have, and i commend them both for keeping themselves together and delivering to the fullest of their abilities.

the judging in ladies skating makes it so unpleasant to watch, so many errors uncalled, pcs is even more meaningless than it is in mens. maybe someday they'll learn that tes and pcs doesn't have to be tied. and that a skater can deserve 9 in transitions and 7 in composition. ugh  :smiley-sad058: what an unsatisfying night

Jeff is on fire today. :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:Is this about Zuzu or what?

I think Kaetlyn? Although it can equally apply to Zu.

Alright Jeff, spill the beans, is Zu skating to Swan Lake as SP next season?

Omg I can't believe the olympics are over. I miss skating already :tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid:

...There's still worlds next month. I won't miss it for a while, my heart wants to beat at a normal sedate pace, and my bioclock wants a normal sleep schedule. During Olys I was waking up at 8 am naturally so I could watch the live broadcasts. Normally it takes 10 alarm clocks to achieve that.

Olympics is truly a beast. Before the season, Yuzu's gold was split many ways but Med's name was basically written on the ogm.

We expected inflated scores, and while that did happen across the board in all fields, the ladies field takes the cake. I guess being the most popular field means nothing, or maybe it means a lot more that's why the politics go harder.

I like Alina, she's energetic n doesn't break down under pressure.  Med is more well -rounded n skates beautifully, but she doesn't capture hearts like yuzu does, I can't seem to get into her program, maybe I'm too shallow.

I don't know how much of that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Would Yulia have had her career handled that way if it had been just accepted that she'd retire in her mid-twenties, and would grow as a performer until then? Sure, jumps might wobble by then, but their composition, skating skills, performance, interpretation - all of that would become better once they have more investment in their programmes and develop as performers. Mirai, she went out and got her 3A because she didn't accept her expiration date. Caro is 31! Boys get their big growth spurt before they have time to hit their peak so their training involves methods of dealing with that. But apparently not so for ladies.

Ehh I'm irritated with everything now, I'm off to watch more Yuzu-gala-practice clips.

To think that Yuzu winning gold was predicted to be the least likely of all the disciplines (in terms of world champions winning the OGM).

He won with the biggest victory margin out of all the disciplines, too.

I think it's interesting that it's usually the free skates that people remember and determine who they think the rightful winner is like here or pairs (didn't pay attention to dance), but (though Nathan won the FS) Yuzu made such a big impression both days that even with mistakes in FS his win is undisputed (unless you're an uber of someone else). Hurrah.

When I watched group 3 on tv, i had a major flashback of men's fs in Sochi. Glad that the final group really slayed. I enjoy all top 6 performance. Caro and Kaori should switch, that's all.

Not a fan of Keatlyn but its great to see her deliver when it count. I don't like this program, but she has a great presence on ice and her jumps add alot of wow factor. Well deserved bronze

Satoko has 3 PBs here and I dont think we could ask for more. I screamed when she landed the 3S, the pcs should be higher but tech panel were easy on her combo, so her final score was fine IMO

My heart broke for Evgenia. I watched her since junior, and that time no one thought she could survive in senior. Yet she dominate the ladies's field 2 season and then in the olympic season, the injuries happened and the rise of Alina. I don't like her score most of the time, but you have to admire her mentality and her work ethic. She is really the champion on ice and off ice. After Alina's skate, I thought she could have a chance, but her jumps are really tight, and the margin of 1 pts is really heartbreaking. She did everything she could. Nothing against Alina, that's not her best performance but  I shocked when she manage to tack 3lo on the second lutz. Really I love many ladies here, its the judging is a mess. The ladies's is the worst judging event and I'm not surprise.

Once again the OBM is the happiest person. In 3 disciplines, the gold and silver is around one point gap, except for men. And that's the only discipline that didn't have any WR.
