His edge is as inside as Yuzu's normal ones. It's fine.

Unless one thinks a flip should be jumped from as deep an inside edge as the outside edge of a lutz.

Yeah, that was the only 4Lz Nathan did in the past 3 official practices.

It's still an unconfirmed rumour but I'm not sure if he has a swollen ankle, it is something that came from Nationals. It's been a few weeks. It's possible it could be a more recent issue. At Nationals it might have just been because his consistency with it wasn't going well: he did a few 4Lz at Nationals practices, contrary to here, where there was only that one.

We'll have to see if he brings it back in future practices, which will mean he should be fine.

Otherwise, though, this is a cursed season indeed.

Hmm, but he did quite few Lzs then too, right? On the other hand, I have no idea how many he usually does, especially if they’d already decided to bench it for Nats.

yeah but i can see the confusion. It did look flat from the other angle.

Tbh I look at the arch of the leg rather than the edge and yup it looked as if it was going to the outside in that screen WinForPooh posted. Then again, Alice posted a screen of a moment just before that screen and it WAS definitely on the inside, so even if it waved, with the milliseconds that separated tapping from the take-off, the WORST he could go for is flat, so I guess we should blame the sprinkling ice for the confusion.

Btw, somebody was trying to continue inquisition against Alice with an argument that Yuzu got an ! this season (a total of once, and it was posted as if that was a constant issue, way to go anon, fact checking level USA Media), and I must admit that in the counter gif she posted, it did look as if he is going 'stay INSIDE you jerk" on his blade a bit  Then again, this is Yuzuru 'couldn't land 2A so went for triple and nailed it' Hanyu, he can't do anything the easy way.

Eta: it's possible that the screen we've had here was the moment when his weight transferred already into air, so the leg looks arched on the outside for me, because Nate's body is already rotating... argh, I wish I had better eyesight.

Eta2: Anyway, if that ankle injury is true, props for Nathan for even trying either Lutz or Flip, coz my knee and ankles hurt just looking at the landings that arent Yuzuru-ACL!Chopin!4S-perfect, including Shoma and his low knee bend. Ouch

I don't think there's anything wrong with Nathan (and they even specified Nathan is just fine, in all aspects, including his boots), he's just experiencing his first Olympics, while the US media are pushing like crazy. Not a pretty place to be in. In general, I think while the ice wasn't ideal earlier, the rest was the fault of the 'Olympic' ice and that's just how that goes. We'll have more of that later on.

I did laugh when in the morning I got several texts from friends who slept through it and the message was pretty much - wtf happened - by all of them

*has flashbacks to Yuzu outside edge*

Uhm, is this even humanly possible to achieve this level of inside without having some kind of rubber ankle? For someone who can twist her own joints just by making a step wrongly it's kind of nightmarish vision.

That was pretty much my first post in this thread when I woke up...

Yeah, I still say the pic @WinForPooh posted was outside, the one I saw on alice’s tumblr was inside though (slight but there) and in conclusion we really should be tearing apart shoma’s flip instead lol

Now Shoma's as inside as it's possible to go.

Uno's Flip problem: full blade pick, PR, and sometimes UR. The edge is fine. Unlike his Lutz.

I totally blame the TPs inconsistency in calling wrong edges for this confusion with Nathan's flip. After Mai got multiple edge calls on a slight (but definitely) inside edge I was (and still am) very confused on how much inside should the edge be for it to be considered correct

IMO, if you need to stop the video at a specific frame to catch the change of edge then the edge is fine. The TP would never do that themselves and it is obviously not visible in real time so it should be acceptable. There are way more obvious cases that get a pass anyway and I am wondering why everyone is worried about this particular jump and not about the multiple jumps that looked UR but were not called or even reviewed. If I can see that the landing is suspicious then I am sure more experience fans and the TP would notice to.

Yeah, the uncalled URs were far more problematic. Those would have been far worse for the scores than an unclear edge.

I didn’t mean the edge just the whole jump being a mess
