[2017/18] 4CC Men - SP & FS

Featured Replies

From a quick look, I think Jason is the only one who got higher scores than Shoma for spins. Shoma hit all the levels, of course, but taking only GOE into account, as well. It's really not fair.

its just if /any/ of the other top men did those exact jumps with that technique like that, the goe would be so much better. sigh.

pleased with his pcs though, im very glad to see him finally rewarded for all of his hard work :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

Wow very good skates from final group. The highlight are Boyang and Keiji. A great comeback from Boyang after injuries, the best 4lz3t in the world. Congrats for joining 100+ club :bliss-smiley:

Keiji improved alot in the past 2 years and and no longer a popstar. That 3A right before the step sequence is great

I don't know what happen with Jason's 3A. Last season its so consistent with +2 GOE many times, but he barely landed it now

Shoma whats that stsq2 ??????? His team should fix that asap because that stsq is barely enough for level 4 but to drop to level 2 is such . The 4F is borderline and the travelling on last spin and that combo again !!!! I think he performed this program better at GPF

I would have Boyang in first, with a bit higher GOE. The pcs is ok. I thought they would give 46+ pcs for Shoma, but overall the gap is very small so I'm ok with it.

Edit : Watching again, I think Boyang's GOE is fine. The 3T on combo is a bit tight and no transition into it. I would give Shoma lower goe on his quad and final spin.

it's a sign

Ah well, At least now there's a good example from the quadsters of a skater who has actually, visibly improved in just about every component over the last couple of seasons. Boyang never got the candies, so he had to get better. And he did, he was so good today.

Keiji's SP is really so good. Han Yan's skating is so lovely. Misha is such a pleasure to watch. Jason is now very stressful because his 3A has just abandoned him. Why, 3A? I wish the Japanese men and Han Yan could give Jason a few 3A lessons!

Only had time to watch Boyang and Shoma in my break but I have to comment before I burst

BOYANG IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK  :smiley-happy093:

That pergram fits him so much and he was very committed and in character  :happy0158: I loved the step sequence, it is a perfect way to end the program and he was on fire :smiley-happy085: and of course that beautiful 4Lz

On a shallow note, Boyang looked great and this hairstyle is brilliant  :goe:

Not Shoma's best but still very good :happy0158: I am surprised at the step sequence level 2, how did that happen?

I read somewhere that stsq is barely enough for level 4, he only got level 4 once this season I think. This is why I'm surprise that his team hasn't fix it yet. I don't know much about the step and turns but when I look at Patrick, Yuzuru, Jason or even Nathan's stsq, Shoma's looks quite simpler. Today he's slower than usual and may be he lost a turn.

He also got lv2 for the FS at Nationals... His footwork is just not behaving this season  Not sure why his team hasn't attempted to fix it...

I've just watched some of the men's performances and I'm so ecstatic about Boyang! I loved how he performed his program today. And I love his program more now too.

I also think he deserves to be in first. But I'm just happy to see his excited face after he heard his score that I don't mind so much (only a little bit lol). Hope he keeps going with his improvement so that I can continue cheering for him as well :smiley-happy085:

Boyang was fantastic today:  those jumps (!), that lovely ina bauer moment, everything...So good to see him back :tumblr_inline_n18qrbDQJn1qid2nw:

I still can't bring myself to love Winter and it's sad... I've been enjoying Shoma's K&C moments more than the actual program so far this season

StSq2???

That last spin traveled all the way to Nagoya :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

Maybe we should cut him some slack there, he probably smelled a veggie plushy coming and attempted an early escape

BOYAAAAAAAAANG!!!! :sadPooh:

I can't really explain how happy I am to have sunshine Dragon Spidey back! With his gorgeous 4Lz, with his amazing hair, with his spirit-lifting and heart-warming smile! Honestly I felt so devasted watching him in SA and was so worried right until the first practice video showed up, and now I'm just all relieved and excited and happy. He did so well. The improvements across all PCS categories are so visible - the cleaner & sharper edges & turns, the more nuanced and rich choreo, the variety in expressing the music, the attention to detail and to perform all the way through. The SP didn't make me too happy when I first saw it, but now I really love it. The placement of the 3A is awesome, and the steps are such a highlight to finish. I'm so proud of this little heart worker, and it also makes me even more excited for what he will develop into and bring to the ice in all the years to come. I just love him :smiley-love017:

As for the score discussion, I'd have Boyang first too. Shoma got lucky he wasn't called on the 4F, which was UR, and his jump GOE were too high for me. He did a good job with holding on to them and avoiding any step outs ect., but Boyang has better quality to begin with, and outside of the wobbly 3T landing hit his jumps fine. Both got a bit too much on spins IMO. Regarding the step sequence level, my guess is that Shoma was simply too messy/not clean enough in some of his attempted turns. He has some very good attributes when it comes to skating quality (deep edges, great flow, uses his knees very well) but precision during turns isn't always one of them IMO. He sometimes ends up on a flat while shifting from one edge to the other, and given that this TP was pretty strict, I'd speculate that is what came to bite him. It also really wasn't his best delivery of his steps this season.

Regarding PCS, I think Shoma deserved higher then Boyang, but I'd have them closer. Shoma gets SS IMO, they're compareable in TR, Boyang slightly gets CO, and PE & IN... well, I'm probably in the minority when I say I'd give Shoma PE, but Boyang IN. I think Shoma has more projection as of now, both have good upper body movements (with some room to improve) and use their arms well here, both really put energy into their programs. Regarding IN, both have good timing, but for me Boyang gets the nuances out better & has a bit more variety (compare the softer beginning to the sharpness during his steps <3). I guess I'd give Shoma more of a 1.5 PCS lead, not 3. He can definitely perform & skate this better and earn a bigger PCS lead over Boyang, but for today, it was Boyang at his best and Shoma slightly off for me, so it's closer.

Anyway, good luck to all the men in the LP, may you all stay healthy, rotate & get those levels!:tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:
