Shoma the costume is the only good thing about turandot 2.0. Why you have to change it to this ugly color ????????

I agree -10 GOE for costume change  thank God it's only one-time thing!

Though I think his performance was good today, I liked it way more than SP.

Congrats, Boyang! :goe: for a new costume! The programme is still not the best but very good performance today. I really can't believe how much he improved in two years, when I saw him at Barcelona GPF it was  he became much better already last season and this season shows that he can really perform not only with fun music but also serious/more mature stuff

I can only comment now. Got to watch the final group with rinkmates, and had a good laugh at one who asked me how to justify my statement that Boyang could be on the podium. When he goes clean, or nearly clean, he's a legit podium threat. =)

A part of me is sad, because if he had cleaner skates earlier in the season, the PCs scores might be just slightly higher-though 85-87 range is probably what he is right now anyways. The music is still jarring, not the best program for him in my opinion, but he tried to sell it and it went fine. I'm glad for him, finally 100, 200, 300 all in the same competition. And he's got 10% more before he peaks.

Oh my, what I've missed:rubeye:

I've jinxed Shoma, I'm sorry Shoma:smiley-scared003:

yay Jason skated to bronze and saved my predictions!:tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid::tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid::tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid: I'm so happy he finally had a good free skate, going back to his old program was a good move (tho he could have done that for Nats:squishedPooh:). Beautiful opening 3A3T I don't care for the solo 3A and beautiful steps and choreo (honestly, he should have gotten at least the higher TR of the comp).

Shoma, dear, what's with that yellow coat you wore on your real costume but forgot to remove thing?:smiley-scared007:

I'm really curious, why did he go out there with that eyesore of a costume just for this one comp, when he has a beautiful blue one that suits him, his body lines and his arm movements so much better? Even if it was laundry day and he had no blue costume available, he could have used one of his 14765800 ice show/SP costumes:tantrum:  Maybe even the dead chicken  would have been better than that!

(And yes, I think the unexpected "drop" in his PCS is in part due to Shoma looking quite bad in that colour and the cut ruined his upper torso movements, which are a significant part of his performance)

That fall on 3F4F scared me, but  kudos to Shoma for skating the rest of his program cleanly and hitting all the combos!:smiley-happy105: His condition seems quite good, no wobbles in the second half of his program and less Shoma-landings on jumps, very good!:agree:

I think Shoma can still hit his best performances at olys, just like he managed to hit his best performance at Worlds last season after a not ideal 4CC (and, in addition, at Olys Shoma won't go as "the favourite", so more reasons for him to do well, he won't have Nathan's or Yuzuru's pressure and with lenient usual panels and his BV he has a good shot. Better, I'd say, than Boyang with his PCS and Javi, who instead has still shown those wobbles in the second half of his FS)

Also, I've watched Shoma's EX to This town and he has ditched the white pants and now belongs to both the all-black club and the jeans+shirt club... Why Shoma? Why black jeans + black shirt for galas? I get it, you used up your colour quota for the FS costume, but whyyyyy? :smiley-sad016:

But the program is very enjoyable:tumblr_inline_ncmifaymmi1rpglid:

whileTurandot 2.0 still falls rather flat to me. I really don't understand why I don't get that program. Winter, I can like it. Turandot 1.0, same. But Turandot 2.0 I just can't bring myself to feel engaged watching it and I don't understand why

yay Boyangman snatched his first gold in a major international competition!:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw::tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: He ruined my predictions but it's OK, worth it.:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: Good job! Well done! Show them all who's the original quads boss:hachimaki:

I still think his SP is MUCH better than the FS (tho, if I consider each part of the SW program in isolation, I like it a bit more:laughing:), but this performance was quite good  Among quadsters Boyang is by far the one with the worst reputation as far as "artistry" is concerned, but he is constantly working on it and improving (because he can't give good PCs for granted...or even not-so good-PCS, if he isn't clean:peekapooh:). I hope some people/commentators/press will finally stop forgetting that he is more than just quads and he has potential for an olyimpic medal, even without any pcs boost.

How come I never knew that Boyang listed Yuzu (together with Yagudin and Plushenko) as the skaters he looks up to in his official ISU bio??? I am ashamed of myself.

ETA:

Also, look at that! in isu.org/figure-skating Boyang is now the 'Quad King' :peekapooh:

He finally has his title back!!

4CC(and COR) is the best comp this season so far. Many great performances, quite good judging ( not perfect but still 10x times better if we compare it to GPs and Euro). I wish we could have this tech panel at Olys.

I can't believe next is Olympics. The first OP will be on 1st Feb, which mean some skaters who compete at team event might need to fly to Korea right after this :eeking: I hope all of them get a good rest and skate even better performances at Olys :smiley-happy105:

I love these judges breakdowns. So Boyang won 5 judges out of 4 on his FS. The CHN judge scored him outreageously high and Shoma outrageously low. Really, not even the JPN judge displayed that much blatant favoritism.

I've finally got the time to comment. This competition is great!!! I'm so happy for Boyang!! I felt that the PCS gap between him and Shoma should be closer, but other than that I'm really happy!

another favorite comment: "it'll be a travesty for figure skating if he medals"

*insert "laughs in hidden meme" here*

I think it's a real travesty for someone to say something like that.

I think he deserves the title! He's one of the first trigger to the quad race, and his 4lz is unrivalled!

I'm posting the Japanese broadcast version of Shoma's FS because their tech tracker actually lets you know which jumps are marked for review (in pink at the top). Surprisingly, it wasn't just the 4Lo and 4F that got marked for review but the 4T2T too. After review it was deemed clean, but it's interesting to see these details that the current ISU tracker doesn't allow.

Which is the fact that Yuzu acknowledges on one of the press conference . I just don’t get why a lot of people including media just nonchalantly dismiss Boyang. His 4Lz is a thing of beauty!<3

Was there Shin Amano in the tech panel?? xD We have the names, now let's send them (swans) a request for them to be appointed for the Olys!

It's easy! Because the choreography sucks.
