[2017] GP Skate America - Men SP & FS

Featured Replies

Ohhh

I woke up, saw the results... and just... :8122879:

So sad about how it went for Boyang.

This is such a wonderful program for him, I love it, his interpretation is soooo good. I hope we will get a chance to see it in its full glory one day.

Ugghhh, stupid injuries :tantrum: May everyone heal well and come back stronger for the Olys

I've just finished cathing up with the men.

I'm happy for Han Yan, except for the fall on the 4T it was a good skate!  He was struggling with the 3A in the warm-up, but he jumped it so beautifully in the program. Good job!

I'm especially happy for Sergei, hope he can skate well in the free skate too and make the GPF. :smiley-happy105:

Boyang's SP is growing on me, it's a good program even though I miss his SP from last season. I heard an interesting commentary from CoC that instead of keeping Spiderman he chose this music because judges at the Olympics are usually older (=more conservative) than at other competitions. And it's because some of them retire after the Olympics and it's their last time to have the possibility to judge there so they are given the chance usually. That's why a crowd-pleasing, fun program isn't often a choice in the Olympic season. I don't know what might be the other reasons but it sounds reasonable.

At this point maybe it would be better if Boyang WD and would rest, the GPF isn't that important now...I hope he will be healthy in PyeongChang.

I'm sorry for Maxim, the program itself looks promising...but it was worrying to see him during the warm-up, he was in pain. I hope he will have a rest before Nationals :13877886:

I think Nathan skated his SP better at Rostelecom, and I don't see why he would get 2.5 points higher in PCS other than the competition is in his home country. 2x 9.75 and 3x 10.00, really?

The program is a good choice for him because it hides his weaknesses but I think there's still plenty of room to grow in this program.

Clearly someone who has never seen Yuzu skate live...

Oh yes, she did. She was the judge who gave Yuzu 0 GOE for his 3A at 4CC...:slinkaway:

looks like the US judge will back up Duhamel/Radford vs. Savchenko/Massot...

Wow.. where's all the complaint about judging again? Glorifying judge 6? Really? :slinkaway:

Okay, but not only did the Mexican judge overscore Nathan in PCS look how low she put Adam!  :slinkaway: Definitively following the narrative.

can we maybe not call women bitches because we disagree with them? like, I certainly don't agree with her judging either but that's unnecessary :slinkaway:

Wow so PCS is an opinion, nice to know

You're right, of course, even if it was my first instinct, too. Damn social conditioning.

I propose that we call her a douchenozzle. A part of a useless, harmful product created purely to profit from 'fixing' something that needs no fixing.

What...Duhamel is a skater, she should know better! :smiley-angry023:

And I really can't stand the USFS...it's one thing to be bias, but another to be pushing narratives that are objectively false...But the casual crowd will buy it. :smiley-angry023::smiley-angry023::smiley-angry023:

Nathan is awesome! -->  Opinion

Nathan is the best skater! --> Fake News

I was writing a very long and a bit sour comment but my phone decided to turn itself off so you'll be almost spared (when they talk about smart technology...)

Anyway, mm, PCS well...quite expected, being Skate America. Some judges just can't get pcs right to save their life... like scoring Han's ss lower than Nate's and Adam's. Or giving random 10s. Not Ok.

It will be interesting to see how Nathan and Shoma's PCS will be scored in Nagoya. If Javi won't make to the final, Shoma will legit be the one with higher pcs there, and better ss too (I don't think Jason making to the final  would change in any way the battle of inflation for the two top contenders. Oh, wait, I was forgetting Mika. He has good ss too and he's fast. But the most important thing for him is to have two clean skates)

That said, I quite like Nathan's SP and he clearly enjoys it, but I can't see how it could be "the best" skating-wise or deserve any 10 performing-wise. imo the most impressive thing is the opening, it starts with those beats and Nathan manages to capture the attention, but then he lets the music carry the program for him till the stsq. I wish he could do more footwork between jumps (no quality crossovers, thanks). But then, judges and commies rarely pay attention to feet these days. :smiley-sad058:

And I wish he could hold those two spread eagles a bit longer and on deeper edges. As they are now they blatantly look as if they've been put there only because, you know, gotta make people think he's doing something between jumps.

(I don't blame Shae. She tried and did a wonderful job for Nate. Same with Misha for Voronov. A good choreographer plays to the skater's strenght and conceals the weaknesses... no, I'm not thinking about Boyang's FS and its crazy music cut, not at all:slinkaway:)

And LOL at american propaganda. Yuzu's sudden WD scrambled their plans and they had to rush and switch the inconsistency talk to Shoma (unfair, with his body not being in top condition in france). While Yuzuru has such high quality that he shouldn't play with the "harder" quads, because hey, quads are so dangerous for the skater's health, but only if the skater's name Yuzuru Hanyu. Ok.

Also, why should ballet be the best thing ever, unless it really suits music and choreo?

And Nate's SP isn't balletic at all this year. When they gush about ballet I wonder if we're even watching the same program. But that's a feeling that lately I'm getting quite often:shrug:

Now, Boyang:tumblr_inline_mzx91uuLRI1r8msi5:

I wish he could have just WD.:tumblr_inline_n18qr8XewT1qid2nw: Not doing the 4Lz to avoid picking with his right foot isn't going to help that much if he still has to land all those jumps on that foot. He somehow held on for the SP (I love love love his SP) but the free is longer and there are more jumps, he'll try to do more quads and...I don't really want to see him go through that. Even if he manages to qualify for the GPF, it won't give him any momentum. For Boyang the only chance of being awknowledged is to skate his programs clean, and even then he doesn't receive as much love as others.

Same for Kovtun. He has no chance to go to the final, and right now the only way he has to qualify for olys is skate at his best at Nats.

gosh, I could never be an skater. I can't even watch people skate knowing that they are in pain.

I'm looking forward to Adam's FS, I love it:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw: And I like Voronov's fs music. (I think I've said exactly the same for nhk:68468287:)

Podium is still pretty open, but the gold is a lock I think  unless disaster happens *hides before she jinxes more people*

ETA Re: Meagan's comment

I would disagree even about the "best jumper"... because

1)quality of jumps also matters

2)ability to jump out of steps. You know, it's harder than just taking half rink or more to prepare one jump. It can make you less consistent too. Surprise surprise!

and this can be summarised as "Yes, I'm a skater, but what are GOEs, I don't know them"

3)do we really want to talk about the elephant in the room? Dear Meagan, maybe doing 4Sthows made you forget this tiny little detail, but 3A is also a jump, you know. My bad, I'd expect the best jumper to have 0 problems with a mere triple:facepalm:

Totally agree. Maybe only the last stsq was more emotional than that time. But in general, his skating in CoR was mush more powerful, balanced and smooth. It's evident even simply looking at his last position: no energy at all. And his face: he wasn't happy about his skate (or it only seemed to me). He was the best yesterday, for sure, but it wasn't his best skate. I will allow myself to not discuss scores, it's too embarrassing. I just rewatched Chopin: the difference in representation skills is so evident, really.

All of it, I agree! I am glad that I'm not the only one who thought the beginning of Nathan's programme is really great but then from the setup to the first combo, which was the only really good jumping pass he had this time (as in positive GOE good, not just landed), the performance/musicality of it just fades. And everything about Boyang, if he could only be well, his SP would be really lovely. And Adam's free, and Voronov's.

I hope Han Yan skates his free well, too!

Am I the only one who thought Meghan was being sarcastic?
