[2017] GP Cup of China - Men SP & FS

I think its clearly judges know the rules, but for some reason, they apply it in a selective way. Nowadays even the TES is subjective. They didnt call Han's 4T as a fall too.

Sometimes I wonder why Yuzuru make it hard for himself by adding too many difficult transitions into his program. But who knows, the moment he dare to take it out, they will kill his GOE :slinkaway:

Because he cares about doing it correctly and also probably him thriving on challenging himself plays a part in it as well. Dumbing down his content doesn't work for him anyway as we've seen

I'm relieved that Yuzuru has some internal drive to take the rougher path because as far as judging is concerned, he's not going to get any reward (or maybe he's going to get the deserved reward, which sadly pales compared to the undeserved rewards other selected few are getting these days, tho)

Guys, I love all the photos, but technically this is the men's thread....

Well, for me its better to follow the rules, even if the judges dont care. Who know if they suddenly become strict or whatever. Wakaba was the only lady got negative GOE because of that no step rule at WC this year. Just dont give the judges a chance. They will take it seriously at the moment you need it the most

Wiggle. That's what I am gonna call that no-step quad that gets full +3GOE from now on: the wiggle solo quad. :thanks:

Wiggle, or butt twitch? o_O

On a lighter note, I asked a rinkmate going to CoC to toss a panda plushie to Boyang for me. Today, right as I was wondering why I saw no Panda plushies on the ice after the SP, the broadcast cuts to my very flustered rinkmate, grasping a panda plushie in his hands, very worriedly trying to figure out how to toss the plushie onto the ice. :smiley-laughing021:

On a more serious note, I thought we had enough wiggle room as it is on the PCS. With the GOE scale changes, I hope that the judges will actually get stricter, and the tech panel actually bothers to call stuff. To a degree, I almost think that a -8 to +8 scale might work better, in that the judges simply press which bullet points are hit, and you get an auto -5 to -8 for a fall. That would probably level the field even further between triples and quads, if leveling the triple/quad field was ever intended in the first place.  Then you scale the PCS co-efficients a bit and PCS and TES might be more balanced.

LOL i saw that on the broadcast hahaha and i swear i was wondering if that was the panda plushie you said you were gonna get someone to throw

LOL turns out it was...

well your friend has another chance tomorrow in the FS

Yeah, I told him to just toss it. He was trying to gun for KnC area and hand it to boyang directly.

I'd like to imagine that Yuzu lives by this rule: "If you do not do your responsibilities, you have no right to demand your rights" or putting it more positively "You only have the right to demand your rights when you have done your responsibilities".

And so, as long as it is in the rulebook, he is going to follow it, regardless of whether or not he is rewarded for it. You know, just this thing called 'integrity'.

Keiji Tanaka deserved better.

Stop this PCS awarding on rep! Judge the performance for itself!

Down with this sort of thing!

it must be the camera angle or something because i find it hard to believe these guys are similar height...?

i always thought javi and kolyada would be much taller (given how tiny boyang is next to vincent and adam)

mikhail is actually pretty tiny!! i always thought he was like 5’8 (173cm) but hes actually 5’5 (167cm), while javi and boyang are both around 5’7 (170cm)

I am 5'7 and Javi is definitely taller than me.  (still need to upload those pics, for shame for shame)

FS start order

  Warm Up Group 1 SP
1 Kevin REYNOLDS (CAN) 64.40 (10)
2 Alexander MAJOROV (SWE) 64.27 (11)
3 He ZHANG (CHN) 46.99 (12)
4 Grant HOCHSTEIN (USA) 80.55 (7)
5

Vincent ZHOU (USA)

80.23 (8)
6 Alexander PETROV (RUS) 68.58 (9)
  Warm Up Group 2
7 Han YAN (CHN) 82.22 (6)
8 Max AARON (USA)  83.11 (5)
9 Keiji TANAKA (JPN) 87.19 (4)
10 Javier FERNANDEZ (ESP) 90.57 (3)
11 Boyang JIN (CHN) 93.89 (2)
12 Mikhail KOLYADA (RUS) 103.13 (1)

Kolyada's won't be the first (and last) SP skate that didn't quite deserve to go beyond 100 but did anyways. So, regarding step, for now we have:

1) Clear step = Hanyu, SE into 4L (or whatever he'll put there lol)
2) No clear step = Chen, Kolyada, Uno.

Can someone who understand these things watch Jin and Fernandez, and please tell me if at least they follow the rules? Because if it's unclear with them as well, then... yes, Yuzuru does look like the dumb one.

Kolyada skate last tomorrow. This would be a real test for him.

@Murieleirum : Javi does has steps before his 4S. I think Boyang has it too, although he pause abit before the jump ( I'm not really sure about this, so correct me if I'm wrong).
