[2017] GP Cup of China - Men SP & FS

Featured Replies

Mika's 4Lz was dinged by some judges on the lack of steps, as he should. No matter how amazing it was, it's not obeying SP requirements. It should not be getting +3s.

Right, so I had to youtube everything quite a few minutes behind everybody.

Javi, boy, what was that? And what are those PCS, I like him so much, but what... He only landed one jump properly and that too was a Javi save, so what is that! The choreo is great, but still!

Boyang, nice saves on a couple of landings, and he should grow into the music more, but even so, it was good! I guess he'll end up backloading more, in the end. Still, he looked like he wasn't feeling the music much. And if we were being fair, I'd say the PCS was fair, but then I look at Javi's PCS and we're obviously not being fair. Compared to what others have got - even Yuzu's pop-concert Semei, to be honest - that isn't fair. So I feel like I'm missing out, would the judges like to send me some of what they're drinking?

Mika, finally! Nice save on the combo, I'm sure he can do better still, but that was so great! I'm so happy for him! What a lutz he has when he lands it! And I like his entrance into the triple axel, it looked so good! I knew he could do it!

I actually thought Boyang's SP worked really well today. I wasn't sold on the first viewing but his interpretation really improved and now I would say it looks good and is bound to get even better. I think it's going to be fine.

The FS ... nothing is going to save that one.

Agreed, there is clear improvement in the SP and it will only get better.. Boyang is never gifted by the judges so he has to work hard and improve constantly.

I still have hope for the FS

I think Javi's PC's are fine considering the general inflation that is happening. Yuzu got similar PC with a fall after all and the performance was good

Also why are people in arms over Javi's PCS? Yuzu got similar ones at COR for also a faulty SP. Granted, Yuzu's TES was actually higher than his PCS then.

Yes, this is. It should have been between 0 and 1 GOE (and rightful so, because it was a splendid jump, in it self to be scored between 2 and 3 GOE). Not all the judges are applying the rule yet (at least clearly those who gave the 2s and the 3).

I agree also with this in general. Maybe I would have given Javi something less in performance and interpretation today (Yuzu IN at COR was better) but I do  not think much lesser than 45 in total.

Just to know, and to let me understand better: which score do you think could be right for this skate of Javi? Thank you in advance for the eventual replies :pbow:

What a surprise, when 2 clean performance came from Keiji and Mika . The highlight for me is Keiji. He skated with so much fire and confident. Hope to see a good FS tomorrow.

Mika finally join 100+ club. His 4lz is a thing of beauty, but I understand why he only got 1.57 GOE because there's no step. Thats the thing he have to work on

I start to like Boyang's SP. The 2nd half is good. It would be a great program for him if he skate with more power

Javi oh Javi he look nervous to me, and his jumps are off today. His spin GOE and PCS are a bit high, I would give him 88+ for this skate but I think he deserve to be 3rd. Maybe its good that's he didnt lead after the SP.

With the men's field today, 10+ point gap is nothing. Kolyada bombed himself off the podium after leading the SP in FT. Anything could happen

I think Javi was a little overscored mostly because he seemed to shine less brightly after he popped that combo. He seemed to leave the character behind a little. I love Javi, I hope he puts it behind him for the free. He can still make that up.

If we speak also of GOE, the judges have been sure too generous on the Salchow: so in total 88+ could be the right score also for me. I do not know if this would put still in third because at the same time Tanaka was a little bit underscored. In this reputation played surely a role.

Javi needs to learn how to skate last and not to get affected by other skater's performance/score.. (man.... he really is opposite to Yuzu. Kudos again to Brian for handling those two..)
