Men's Individual SP is on 8 Feb, next Tue.

Tomorrow is Men's Team LP and Women's Team SP

Isn't it on the 6th?

Edit: nvm I misread the schedule

I like to sleep in on a weekend but woke up many times this morning just to check if Yuzu has been sighted.

He's really not going to check out the main rink until the actual day??

The same for me.:rubeye:

Sayu93 already mentioned this in the other thread: Yuzu appeared briefly on German TV yesterday and here is the video

Narrator: "Art with Yuzuru Hanyu..."

Dick button, you are missed among all these fake commentators and experts.

I don't know how Button's current health condition is but would love to hear opinions of someone like him. He wasn't a mouthpiece and didn't have the common American national bias.

I think Yuzu is going to arrive either tomorrow or the day before the SP. According to that statement from the JOC, he really seems concerned about COVID and I think part of that may have to do with how 2021 Worlds went. He was fine one day, but the next we all know what happened...Part of me honestly thinks he may be in Beijing already but laying extremely low (a true ninja) and I am not sure how helpful looking at ANA flight schedules are. Yuzu has enough power right now to have a private flight arranged for him between Japan and Beijing.

On the topic of the Nathan Chen ads...I am so sick of them. Even my boyfriend (who does not know much about skating but knows Yuzu is the GOAT) just laughs when Johnny and Tara exclaim "He's a once in a generation skater". The Nathan hype is so shoved down our throats that it's almost laughable. It makes me wonder if Nathan himself is embarrassed about it.

was it confirmed Yuzu got covid after the sp at stockholm or something? regardless i just personally dont think having that much fear about covid is gonna help his situation. its one thing to be cautious which is great but its another to plan everything around it. but its his choice and all i can do is respect it. i just hope his plan doesn backfire on him. i really hope like u said he is already in beijing already. being someone who likes to do everything in advance, this entire situation is giving me big time anxiety :( i guess i will have to think he will come prior to the sp.

No, it's never been said if Yuzu has gotten covid (which I doubt). There is reasonable speculation that he had an asthma attack during the night and sought the attention of a Russian doctor since Japan didn't have one. It's the same situation as the Olympics now, Japan doesn't have a doctor for its figure skating team.

Covid doesn't help any situation and Yuzu is doing what he thinks is best for him. I've hit the point where I've just accepted that and wish Yuzu to be happy and safe.

Yeah, I also come to the point when I don't have energy to worry, whatever will be, will be...

I see that Wakaba is doing the short for TE - well, definitely less reliable than Kaori, but if both of them skate, then she probably will do better than in the free (at least usually she does better in the short...)

And Karen for US - probably better choice since Mariah didn't have stable 3-3 for a long time... (Karen's is usually flawed too but at least it exist). I don't know why they didn't consider Alysa, if it's COVID related or not, in fact I would probably chose her, but well...

Hanyu and Cha have yet to be reunited in Beijing as the former has yet to arrive for the Games. But knowing Hanyu and his work ethic, Cha believes he will come through and make history.

"He's always training hard", Cha told Olympics.com. "I saw him practising the quadruple Axel and he's really impressive. It's such a challenge but I know that he's training really hard.

"I'm cheering for him".

Cha said the influence Hanyu has had on him over the years is bar none.

"He's a really great skater. We used to train together, but because of Covid we can't skate together anymore", Cha said.

"But when we were training at (the Cricket Club) with Javi and Yuzu and Evgenia and like a lot of good skaters in Canada, we gave each other a lot of energy back and forth.

"So I was really happy that I can skate with with all the great skaters at the Cricket Club".

Hmm, thought it would be Kaori doing the SP, but this makes sense too, since Wakaba has a higher SB for the SP. But she does seem to be planning to do 2A for the Team Event at least, probably to guarantee a better placing to qualify TJ for the free. Anyway, both Wakaba and Kaori look like they will score similar amount of points for the Team Event in the SP, and Kaori has higher consistency in the FP to ensure a better overall placing for the Team medal.

I see no future for the FS if the retired skaters are like this. Super disappointing. Yuzu has been pushed to retiring since 2019 and him going after 4A sure has made a lot of them upset.

I'm not surprised that he wants to go alone. He knows the best for himself and there is a lot we don't know about his situation so all the best Yuzu. I trust him.

I doubt I will watch FS after Olympics anymore. If this is how the best ever skater is treated by majority of them, fck them all. No wonder this sport is going downhill.

This is not the entire skating community - it’s the Russian FD family which is so toxic and mean-spirited. Yulia L was the only decent commentator to date. Everyone else revealed the underlying toxic culture and I am not surprised by evgenia who seems easily influenced and in need of approbation by those in power.  My respect for Yulia - I wish she could be brought back instead of this next gen young ones. I have a feeling Zagitova would be more independent minded but she probably doesn’t feel as comfortable being a commentator…

Zagitova is a disaster as a commentator because the girl is tongue-tied, awkward and can’t speak without speech mistakes which are so glaringly obvious. She’s pretty to look at, but that’s that - she’s not confident enough, she isn’t glib, she isn’t smooth, she mumbles, and keeps making awkward pauses and forgetting which word she needed etc.

Medvedeva is more flowing in her speech, but far from the ideal too.

Yulia was a natural next to them, but maybe because she took the trouble of getting ready in advance.

Lack of preparation is not confined to Russian commentators - I have been reduced to snarling rage by Eurosport English commentators over the years when they just get things wrong simply because they don’t bother to find out why skaters have been absent from competition or have suffered a loss of form and either speculate or simply make things up. I remember foaming at the mouth once several years ago when they were rambling on about Han Yan's drop in form and hiatus from competition when photos of him in hospital after shoulder surgery were there on the internet where someone as Luddite as me could find them, and were therefore presumably available to them at the click of a few buttons - they just couldn’t be bothered.

I really don't get why commentators would be so unprepared. I've also experienced this with German speaking commentators who spread wrong information and appeared like the were not up-to-date. This is highly unprofessional and disrespectful to the audience.
