looks like Yuzu is the wisest of all

He is an absolute diamond, no wonder we feel so proud of him, apart from sniggering at N's shorts that time :giggle:  his behaviour and attitude and thoughtfulness...oh and skating... are exemplary!

No indignant tweets from Max today - presume he was commentating for Italia Eurosport....I'm sure Italian viewers got a lot better info and analysis than we got here in the UK. I hope to read somewhere what he had to say...

No surprise about no Brian supporting him here, the writing seemed to be on the wall. He's going it alone, like Michelle Kwan did...hope it works better for him.

Yuzu historically doesn't keep contact with his coaches or choreos unless he needs them, we've heard a lot over the years that he always keeps things close to his chest ( ie during injuries he's incommunicado). He has his routine now. If he felt he needed help he could have live sessions with tcc because he trains at night which is perfect for the Toronto time zone, but it seems he hasn't so it shows he's comfortable this way. 27 years old, 2xOlys gold, he has developed necessary self reliance. It's sad he's done with tcc, but others found new coaches during this pandemic after they left, so everyone coped how it best suited them.

As for Evgenia's comments, well I don't really listen to her much. Maybe she has a grudge. Or, maybe she meant jump content because choreographically it isn't in my top 10.

Javi... I'll wait to see how he critiques yuzu before throwing him under the bus.

As long as these past and present athletes/coaches are making a living out of this sport, they have to safeguard their self-interests and engage in saying/doing politically right stuff at the right time. They will suck up to the narrative that promises more job assignments in the future.

Whatever the media propaganda, I will stick with Yuzu for Truth Never Dies.

Spoiler

Post 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, the sport has become so highly and openly manipulative (it takes a genius like Yuzu to bring it to the highest level) that I’m looking at the list of highest scores for jumps, WRs, GPF and Worlds champ titles and even past Oly achievements from certain nation with a pinch of salt. The scores do not accurately reflect the abilities of their skaters.

I expected that Yuzu would be without a coach in the KnC. He probably made the decision to avoid covid and unnecessary contact but symbolically it feels right, too. He's been mostly training himself even before the pandemic.

As for (unqualified) commentators... I think Yuzu has proven himself enough. He's in a league of his own. Any commentator that makes it seem like he can still be compared to mortals is a clown and deserves no attention.

Tbh I'm at the point where I don't care about anyone in FS and their opinions anymore other than Yuzu. I'm tired of the circus.

I am pretty sure I just saw him in France parade of nations in the opening ceremony.

Honestly! With 2 Olympic golds, countless other accolades, his record and skating speaks for itself. Commentators are just paid opinions, with their own agendas.

I wish my Italian was good enough to listen to Max's commentary. Since that's not the case, I opt for non-commentary.

Others can see this too then.

Must be nice to be Nathan to only care about landing jumps and get the rest done by judges and commentators.

I saw his Instagram story where he implied that he had been waiting for covid test results. It seems that he was discharged in time for the opening ceremony :happy0065:

Evgenia was praising Nathan's SP as the best short programme in FS history

Japan is a money maker for retired skaters of course....maybe they should just do their own shows in Japan with their own skaters!! They certainly have lots and lots of talent to pick from.

(I'm just feeling a bit mean, and let down....I'm big enough and old enough not to be surprised, but I am, especially with Javi "too kind to be a competitor" Fernandez - dissing Shoma when he skated so beautifully today and was the best out there imo, and gushing about N who is actually painful to watch for many people and who admits artistry is not his strength!)

I haven't posted for sometime, but this just made me sign in and react....

Hmm... I knew there was a reason why I never liked Evgenia... hah just kidding :peace2: To be honest, I never cared much for her, one way or another.

However, to say that THAT guy's SP is the best SP in FS history is just... bad taste, really. And to think that there was a time I thought she really liked Yuzu as a skater.

With Javi, though, I am much more disappointed. Not that I'm a big fan of Shoma, either. I actually rooted more for Javi when he was still competing. However, to sing THAT guy's praises and to diss Shoma at a time when he doesn't deserve it - is also in poor taste. THAT guy's skating skills do not even compare to his own - how can he gush about it? :dontknow:

And if they're just singing these praises to secure their own future in professional figure skating, then there will be no integrity left in this sport once Yuzu r*****s. Probably not a lot of FS fans, either. Oh well, at least fans can go to Japan yearly to watch Yuzu skate in ice shows - which will be more than enough for this fan, thank you very much :agree2:

Oh, and I'm with @Pammi. Japan can surely produce their ice shows with only Japanese skaters performing (I particularly like Kazuki, Wakababy, and Mai). And if they decide to invite foreigners, well, I would love to watch Stephane and Jeff, too :wink2:
