Stars on Ice 2021 in Yokohama

My personal opinion is that apart from jobs, employment and economical issues, there are several behind-the-closed-doors issues that we are not aware of and all of these shaped his final decision to take part in these ice shows. I don’t think he is missing the bigger picture but probably there are some factors that we don’t know. Just my own opinion though :-)

I hope everyone, audience and performers, can go home healthy.

I'm not an expert but I do believe masking is very crucial for preventing the spread of virus. I live in a (if not THE) most crowded city in the world. We take crowded public transportation everyday. Our major virus prevention policy is simply reduce the chance of people expose to each other maskless (i.e.reducing chances of spread in restaurants and bars and sports facilities). Social distancing is not really implemented because it is not quite feasible. However we don't have major lock-down (yet) so it gave me some hope that the spread of virus is actually controllable when everyone is masked and pay attention to disinfection, like in SOI.

I also see a post from a Hong Konger living in Japan who went to SOI today. She said audience are generally quite aware of self-protection, everyone masked and not touching each other. And it is not as bad as she thought. She found it actually acceptable to her.

IMO a lot of people involved in this show and with competitions in Japan don't deserve to keep their jobs for creating such dangerous events, anyway. What a shame fans didn't pressure organisers to hold it without an audience.

If possible, of course the SOI should have at least keep some distance between the audiences, like what they did in WTT and JNs. They went for the worst option. But I also understand ice shows can hardly be held without audience. I believe many ice shows staffs have already been jobless for more than one year and for young athletes who don't have other sources of income, it must be very hard. I don't think we should blame them for holding ice shows, but I do think they could have done better.

thank you:thanks:

(still, the burning question of how big was her input on his solo part stays:68468287:)

Yuzuru just said in the news clip just before the digest program is broadcasted on TBS that he choreographed the opening himself

What if he choreographed the opening, and Sato choreographed the finale? Lol

Or he choreographed his own bit?

Based on the text, seems like he choreographed his part of the opening.

I saw the news too and seems like the kick ice part at the final number is suggested by Yuzu?

I'm watching the digest now but I think my pass for Japannet TV will end any moment now. Only got the 3 day pass and I recall subscribing it to it only past midnight on Friday. Hope someone will download Yuzu cut from sakuraTV.

I had the feeling that was the case. It just seemed too extra Yuzu(TM) cuz I don't think anyone would be bold enough to ask him to move like that even as a choreo :rofl2:

I mean even his finale solo part seemed to be self-choreographed?

Today's opening synced side by side views.

Has there been a recording of today's show? I didn't know it would be streamed and slept through the whole thing :yuzupout:

We have one here, thanks to @Wyell  :D

It's a screen recording this time via VPN so there were some hiccups, noticeably Rika's part is missing. If anyone has it, please let us know, and we can add it back in!! :please:

Are people allowed to travel when there is a state of emergency declared? Do the police enforce restrictions? Were the tickets for SOI in Hachinohe restricted geographically, or in their numbers eg reduced audience? I hope so, but I have this feeling that whoever knows the answer to my questions will say no to each...

The thing is that Yuzu and skating colleagues have all managed to stay well as far as I know for a year, it would be a terrible shame for them to become ill now as the Olympic season approaches for the sake of ice shows. Nationals and NHK seemed to be held in much better, safer conditions for them and any audience.

I believe people from Tohoku were given priority for tickets for Hachinohe, but Miyagi is in a quasi-state of emergency at the moment as well. Afaik Japan is like Sweden in that they can't enforce lockdowns so it's only a request for people not to go out unnecessarily. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.')

50% audience is safer but still unsafe. We only see everyone sitting apart on TV, we don't see the congested lines at the entrance/exit and for the toilets, then there's the matter of trains and hotels and cafes etc that audience members go to. People who went to WTT said it was very scary and

dangerous.

It's distressing to see skaters without masks at all these events mixing together freely without quarantining. 😥 I really hope they can stay safe...

Well it DOES look very Yuzu-ish! :nod2:

Yuzu dancing to NiziU's song

Also cute 'muzukashii'!

I agree -the event is co-sponsored by JSF according to SOI website.  I think there's a lot of things going on behind the scenes which we don't know about.

Example 1:  Rika is injured and her priority has always been Beijing Olympics.  I do not believe she would have prioritised ice shows over recovery and rest during Olympic season.  IMG is her agent and Kinoshita is (was?) her sponsor.

Example 2: All the skaters in SOI who participated in Worlds and WTT were careful with masking during group numbers. Suddenly none of them are wearing masks and touching during group choreo.  None of this is consistent with  previous behaviour.

It's unlikely we will ever know the fully story, the irresponsibility lies with organiser, sponsors, whoever did the group choreo :banginghead:

It isn't, afaik. But she is IMG skater and she will skate at Shirt on Ice until soul will leave her body.
