Is that Yuzu at 0:07?

That's a very interesting SP music choice for Johnson, it'll be curious of the music cut, it's a long piece, and a bit monotonous rhyhtm-wise but musically unusual and unique. I wish him good luck at NHK!

Whatever his choices are he'll surprise us...

Yes, my guess is also media day early next week and then TV broadcast on Saturday. I can't wait!

I have the 2017/18 season wall calendar and it's beautiful It's really big, 36x49 cm. There are two types of calendars for the 2018/19 season as well: the wall calendar is this one (amazon link): and the desk calendar is this (amazon link): There are also 2019 year calendars, desktop and wall versions: The season calendars will be published on 14th September, the year calendars on 15th Sept. Season calendars are from October 2018 to September 2019. -
2018/19 GP Assignments

Yes, Rostelecom would've been more ideal but even it's back-to-back competitions for him, he could do it. SC is at least not far away from Toronto. I hope he gets that 2nd spot in Finland. -

He can still get Jorik's spot at GP Helsinki? -
I am very curious about Polina's new programs and how she'll do under Buyanova. She's one of my favourite Russian ladies, and I hope she can come back successfully in this season. It's a bit surprising that her and Masha don't have a nutritionist or someone who'd give them advice on what/how much they should eat etc. Internet might be helpful but it doesn't replace someone who's an expert.

General Skating Chat

There's a new interview with Lakernik which was posted a few days ago, he was talking about a few things about the new rules and the possible changes after 2022: http://moksz.hu/jegtanc/otven-eve-biroi-szekben A short summary of the interview: - according to Lakernik, the purpose of the new system is to enable judges to express the differences in quality even more - the new rules could contribute to more balanced programs but correct judging is the most important - someone who has lots of quads can win the world championships because of high TES but only because of high technical content they shouldn't automatically get high components. Those marks could be a lot lower if the program is nothing special. Scores should reflect what happens on the ice on a particular day - a really good program has a good balance of technique and art - about the possible changes after 2022: they'd want to make the SP and FS even more different than it is now: the 'technical program' and the 'artistic program' would have the same length; the technical program would have more jumps and spins and it would be instrumental while the artistic program would have more free elements and skaters could use also vocal music in it. The majority of the scores (2/3) in the technical program would be TES, in the artistic program the components would weigh more and there wouldn't be levels in it just BV+GOE. -- I think the possible changes after 2022 are just ideas and there's still plenty of time to think them through, but I think there's a big contradiction when he says that a good program has a balance of technique and art, but in the new system one program would have more TES and the other would be more artistic. It would mean that the essence of this sport would be lost - to have balanced programs, in which both technique and art are (more or less) equally important. + regardless of the judging system itself, correct judging and scores should always be top priority. But we know that this sport doesn't really work like this.- 6,825 replies

I think it's either the last days of August/first week of September or no media day in Toronto, but we'll see... I feel more resigned these past few days, the first two weeks of August were a lot worse somehow. After all, ACI is just a month away, I hope time will pass faster until then

Wednesday is already practice day at JGP Slovakia with Gogolev competing there, so if Brian will be with him then I think there won't be media day in Toronto this week.

Jason looks really good with the new hair! And Junhwan has grown again? He looks even taller than a few months ago.

I hope Junhwan will go to Helsinki. At Rostelecom I think there will be 11 competitiors in the men's, they left Denis' spot empty, not TBD. -

Commentators do have a huge impact, I agree with that. I won't even go into details how much damage was done in my country by Eurosport or other commentators over the past years and how this influenced the general opinion of fs fans here...

Junior Skaters of 2018/19 season

Kolyada's best form was around CoR-CoC-GPF and he also had to do well at Nationals. His season was long because he went to both Nepela and Finlandia and I think he peaked earlier and couldn't do well at Europeans (his Olympic performaces weren't the best either). But this might change in the coming season and it's possible that both him and Aliev will be in very good shape in January. Javi can change his mind of course, but yeah..I forgot that two ROI shows will be in November, somehow I thought all of them would be in mid/end of December. This makes schedule in November also very busy. And I agree while it's good if he's relaxed but not competing for almost a whole year could make him more nervous too. But whatever happens I hope he can have two good skates and say farewell to competitive skating without any regrets. I'll cheer for him

I was surprised how TAT praised the Jr. ladies and ignored their flaws in technique, while at the same time she mentioned the poor technique of the men and how it is 'dangerous' what they do. Coaches or people like her have a huge responsibility what they do to their students or what they say about them and I think the worst thing is to ignore the problems and praise bad technique, which can result in injuries and other health issues. Sometimes I don't get her logic...

Didn't he say in a recent interview that he would only go to Europeans? He can change his mind later but iirc this is what he said last time. He will be very busy with his shows but I was wondering if he could go to one of the smaller competitions before Europeans (Alpen Trophy, Tallin Trophy or Golden Spin perhaps?). I agree with you @Yatagarasu, if one of the Russian boys will be in good form then it might be difficult to win that 7th title.

2018/2019 Season Program Announcements
sallycinnamon replied to kaeryth's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
SP is not my cup of tea either but it suits her and I think she'll be able to make it work like se did with MJ and AC/DC. And it's good that she chose an instrumental for her FS and that it's not a warhorse/some more known music. It's an interesting choice, I like it, too.
