Proposed changes for next season
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
That was fun! First the British candidate won by only one vote (I guess it was 43:42) against Alla, then it was a tie between her and Hungarian Elek (44:44) and then in the final round, Elek beat her. It was a real drama Anyway, here are all the results of today's elections and the full list of the ISU Office Holders: https://www.isu.org/news/145-news/12112-election-results?templateParam=15 I think the whole point of them problem is that these are just guidelines, general recommendations, and they are not real rules...that's why it's not possible to enforce them if they are just recommendations. Judges can interpret them differently and this is the reason why they are unclear and not clearly defined. Some judges may find an element 'good', some may think it's not just good, but 'very good'. We'll see how things will go, but I think scoring GOE's will remain a playground. I think tano/rippon will count to the very good body position criteria. -

They discussed the proposals on Monday during the workshop, the voting process was just formal today. -

I wonder if we'll see a revolution in the men's costumes fashion now that they are allowed to wear tights -
Proposed changes for next season
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
So there are technical workshops in which all the discussions happen and the Tech Committee can amend their proposals based on those discussions. We also don't know what happened between that workshop on Monday and today, I guess...lots of negotiations behind the scenes. I wish we could have a live stream of those workshops and the coffee break, not the actual voting, which is just a completely formal process. On the sidenote, it's possible to vote about proposals in packages according to Article 30 ("Voting at Congress") of the ISU Constituation, which doesn't explicitely say anything about it, so it means that it's allowed. In this case, it doesn't matter if there are only 5 or 40 proposals in a package. Tricky, and I don't like the process, but that's they way it is I guess...At least three (+2 countries) had enough guts to vote against the whole package. The quad repetition rules itself is not that bad for Yuzu, also because the importance of the 3A will grow. I guess the layout of 4Lo 4S 4T 3F (or 3Lz?)//4T-3T 3A-1Lo-3S 3A-2T would be doable, but we'll see what he'll decide to do. He's the best at calculating, so I think he's going to be fine. -

2017/18 Retirements
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Anne-Line Gjersem has announced her retirement on her facebook yesterday. She was not amongst the strongest skaters in technique but her skating was beautiful and elegant, I've always liked to watch her skate. I wish her all the best in the next chapter in her life. -

Congratulations to Yuzu for receiving the People's Honour Award It's amazing how much willpower, perserverence, mental and phyiscal strength he has and that he was able to defend his Olympic title after all the hardships he's been gone through. He deserves this recognition so much. I think he's the fifth Olympic gold medalist who received this award in the past 41 years....it's such a prestigious award. His statement is so touching, thank you to everyone who translated it so quickly. I hope he'll enjoy the ceremony in a month -that gold medal looks huge and beautiful!

2018/19 Coaching changes
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I think three are more than enough. It worked well with Yuzu and Javi for different reasons but their situation was unique, and as the Olympic Games were approacing things weren't all rosy either. And they were just two of them, now, with three highly competitive athletes who compete against each other, things will more complicated. Zhenya will also need lot of attention as well which might have an affect the other skaters as well. We don't know but I hope things will turn out somehow well even if I don't see the sitatuion that positive now. The situation is a bit different now that Brian's students won gold medals and other medals at three consecutive Olympics, I don't think they would have ended up in the same situation as they did 7-8 years ago (where, in 2010, there could have been chances for others to go to TCC had Yuna decided to leave TCC earlier, and not in August which was already way too late.) Now TCC can already afford to choose from different opportunities and I'm sure they got even more offers, not only from Medvedeva, Jason or Boyang but from many other skaters too. -
2018/19 Coaching changes
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Post-Olympics always brings lots of changes whether it's about coaches, retirements or rules, but I wouldn't have thought in my wildest dreams that Zhenya, Boyang and also Jason would move to TCC. It's been a crazy off-season so far, a busy May at TCC, and we're still far away from the beginning of the new season. I will be honest: I don't feel too positive about today's news now that it's confirmed that Boyang's move would be permanent. He's already a great skater, his skating will change and improve a lot and it'll be exciting to follow how things will evolve for him, but as a major contender for Beijing and as a very competitive skater, I think there might be tensions already from the beginning (not just at bigger competitions) . And even if Yuzu and him would practice on separate rinks, the situation will be very different than it was with Javi as the whole dynamic of the club will change. Now I'm curious who'll leave TCC, whether it's Tursynbaeva, or maybe Cha or others. I guess we'll hear more news soon.
