Well I mean technically, when he skated to POTO he was recycling many before him. He chose the music these two skated to but it's not really different than choosing other music in most cases. 

So it really is more of a tribute, or tributes.

But if so then why admit he hasn't landed it perfectly yet? If it's all an intimidation tactic to stress his opponents, being more confident about it seems logical?

 

Of course, the other alternative is that Yuzu is, for once, being completely open, no hidden agendas. He's truly skating for himself, and sees no reason to play mind games and is just telling it how it is. 

 

Or he's five steps deeper into his diabolical master plan, Mr "Its all within my calculations"

To be honest I never think he plays mind games - simply, his strong character and will to win is so unparalleled that it scares other skaters, spontaneously, without him even wanting to. He probably knows it happens, but I think he says what he says because it's who he is and that's it. 

 

So he says he wants to land 4A this season because he wants to, and he is 300% determined to do it. He's willing himself to do it by saying it out loud, in front of media. And he's willing himself to land it perfectly by saying that he still cannot do it.
