I believe Evgenia Medvedeva's bitterness after her Olympic Silver was aggrieved because she was "worked on" by other Russian coaches (I wonder if there was not Panova but really I am in no way sure) who wanted to attract her. She was convinced to leave her coach but was no fool and went to Brian Orser.

I wonder if it was not the same with Alexandra Trusova and/or her parents. She was upset by her bronze medals, and maybe by a different treatment probably due merely to her growth spurt (8cm last season if I remember well, and she kept her quads!) which needed specific and boring exercises. But either she didn't know enough, or she wasn't allowed to go training elsewhere, she will train with Plushenko, who, strangely, has this reputation of being rather absent to his pupils, while Eteri Tutberidze has the opposite reputation. I hope Plushenko will seize this chance and give her what she needs to become a complete skater. And I guess some overseas coaches are already trying to find sponsors for her.

I love Russian ladies - always full of exciting stuff. Will her GOE and PCS start going down now?

...tbh, if she's paying attention at all to what she can learn from someone like Plushenko, her GOE and her PCS should both go up - not just due to Rusflation, but as in, her performance and skills will actually improve. Plush might be many things, some good, some bad, but he definitely believes in refinement of skill and attention to detail, and that is what Trusova lacks right now.

Panova barely has resources to train her juniors. There is a good reason why all of them are leaving her at some point.

also, perfect pic 👌

Since when Plush pays attention to details?

While it's a massive gamble for Trusova, it occurs to me that the timing... does echo our own hero in 2012.  Half way through that quad, two years before Sochi, he switched coaches and reaction was dismay, doom and gloom.

It's now 2020, two years before Beijing. Of course the cases are very different in other ways - Yuzu was the baby in his field, Namami was nothing like as Big A Name Coach as Eteri - but fora full year, everyone was predicting he was washed up nefore he started.

I am NOT a fan of Trusova, she's one of the three skaters I actively dislike on the ice, but I can't believe anyone really thought that, with limited gold on offer and only one chance looming for OGM, the 3A wouldn't crack as one pulled ahead...

Do you happen to know Plushenko lured away a coach too?

“Also Sergey Rozanov came to me, we will work in the same team,” Plushenko said. “Seryozha is a very serious specialist, he did a great job with the athletes, and I am very pleased with such a balanced and correct decision on his part. And as I said earlier, Plushenko’s academy will develop and will soon show Olympic champions."

I think here the talk is about Sambo-70 club cuz every Russian top-skater represents some club, not like middle school (we can name skating club a school too - I think there's a misunderstanding in translation)

You ever watch his competition programs?! yeah he's no Hanyu, but he's heaps better than what Tutberidze allows her skaters to do. He knows a thing or two about body line and edges and so forth, for one thing...

It seems to me Plushenko is more like manger, I don't think he coaches himself cuz he's too much involved in shows?

Though for now who knows when shows will be, so maybe he will take a closer look at the academy.

Annual Russian off season drama again :drama: I'm surprised. I'm glad she leave Eteri but going to Plushenko is not promising either, on paper. I expected her GOE and PCS would go down, plus more UR calls.
