February 4, 20224 yr Lol. I was talking on the phone with my mom (in her late 70s), who never watches skating unless it's a big event, and she "absolutely loved little Shoma." And she said she just felt no personality from " the American. " She said she can tell he's a good skater, and he skated very well, but there was no personality. Always interesting to hear non fan comments.

February 4, 20224 yr Spoiler Please forgive me for derailing the thread, but man... I had thought people were overstating the mainstream media bias against Yuzu, somehow I'd avoided it until now as I never read sports "coverage" and I always used a fan stream before. Now I have to watch on Eurosport and I've learned my lesson... If you didn't know better you would think Nathan was the greatest skater on the planet, in history, invented sliced bread, etc... They barely even mention Yuzu as a contender (the reigning champion!!! talk about irresponsible journalism!), let alone how big of an achievement two OGMs are in skating, they say he had "a weak showing"... two gold medals not good enough I guess... Commentator lady was just clueless and praised Nate for, of all things, his transitions and steps, the one thing he categorically doesn't have! I get praising his jumps, speed, but why lie outright when I can see it for myself right there?? It's all so infuriating Now that I've gotten that out of my system... Shoma was easily the greatest thing about this sp! That program is really enjoyable, I like the new red costume

Spoiler omg the same!! that's regarding your hidden comment. i generally very detached from mainstream media, and usually watch eurosport with ambient sound = no commentary. but then turned on out of curiosity when NC was skating, and it was just so over the top.
February 5, 20224 yr While watching, I did find the TES box annoying though, I prefer the normal ISU one where all elements performed and the levels obtained are shown. The Olys one is exactly the same as Pyeongchang with no upgrade. I turned away from the screen for a moment, missed an element, and had no idea what element was performed. I especially like the elements performed to be shown for pairs and ID, which I am less familiar with.

That is the only reason why risking a 4Lz+3T combo in the second half would make sense. He will probably get it in the individual event if he skated the same way he did here especially if Yuzu had a perfect program, since he skates after Yuzu and they will up the scores for no reason as usual Totally agree re the 4Lz+3T combo in the second half of routine. As long as Yuzu was/is scheduled to skate before Nathan, it makes it so much easier for them to manipulate their scores and WRs.

I really wonder what he'd say about current skaters, especially the American men and Russian ladies. I think he's someone with integrity who wouldn't hype Nate just because he's American.

Just remember Dick ranting about the quad jumpers in that NHK documentary (Nate, Shoma and Boyang shown in the background), where he said smth like "Quads, quads. So what? It looks like they're wringing out a cloth! I prefer to watch skaters like Janett Lynn who levitate gracefully across the ice."
February 5, 20224 yr Have the men's team FS representatives been announced yet? I'm curious to see who team Japan will get to do free
