  1. It is not about who benefits but about who is harmed by it, I just don't think it is fair to limit the options for the skaters. Yes, skaters with multiple quad types can have more in their programs but this is a best case scenario. During this past season we have seen Yuzu, Nathan, Shoma, and Boyang all drop a quad that was causing them trouble (usually due to injury) and the managed to stay competitive (and win Olympics gold) by being able to switch things around and change their layouts. Everytime I see this suggestion my mind goes straight to the terrifying idea of Yuzu forcing himself to go for the 4Lz and 4L to have a chance at the Olympics and the disaster that would have been (for the performance and his ankle) It is okay to encourage skaters to learn new things but it is never okay to push them into a corner were they would be forced to chose something that may cause them harm. It is easy for us to say drop this or that jump and to prioritize health when discussing these situations but for the skaters, this is their life's work and ambition and it is very hard to drop something you've worked so hard for.
  2. This definition is exactly why I think he is a slytherin
  3. You missed the "pull that act" part I don't really think it matters much because the books and the test don't really match. We have examples of characters doing things that according to the tests and sorting criteria would put them into a different house, in the end it really is about how you perceive the house
  4. I think after the Olympics there is no doubt he is a Slytherin, someone from any other house would not be able to pull that act and win against all odds.
  5. I got Chopin Is that an indication of multiple personality disorder?
  6. This is just me but I don't want the +GOE to be 10% of a quad as that would be too much for a single element, especially since we know how the judges give +GOE's and it has nothing to do with how the jump is actually executed.
  7. I think it is okay for Yuzu to do shows as long as he is not jumping quads (or even better not jumping at all). He will be doing rehab on ice anyway and I don't think the fans would be upset at all if he only did simple programs. It would be really sad if he doesnt get to celebrate with his fans and spend time with the other champions on the year he won his second Olympic gold I know for a fact that I would pay to see him just doing crossovers with or without music
  8. There are multiple reason why this would happen (just my own interpretation of course) - The corridor: the system is set in a way that encourages the judges to try and predict what the others in the panel are going to score. If a judge is to far off the mean they are flagged and asked to explain their scores (the case of the Chinese judge at the Olympics). If the skater is well known or from a country with reputation for producing good skaters, the the judges will naturally go higher in their prediction and score above what they would do for a skater with less reputation. -Judges experience: this is mostly relevant with judges that don't judge big competitions often. These judges come with a perceived idea that the top skaters or big federation skaters are the best based on their previous scores, and that added to the first point (the corridor) makes them go higher than they should with their scores. They can also be star struck when judging a very well known skater or a world medalist for the first time - The ISU and the sport's popularity: (this is definitely is just a theory of mine so take it with a grain of salt) I think the the ISU does try to influence the judges to ensure certain results. For example (hypothetical) if the ISU wanted to revive interest in the sport in the US they would instruct the judges to push the US skaters and artificially create a star, which is what could get people interested. Or they may push for leveling the playing field even if it meant underscoring or overscoring to make competitions more exciting. The feds have power over their own judges but the ISU have power over all judges so it makes senses that they can influence their scores Conspiracy theories aside, I do believe that the corridor and predicting others scores is the main reason for the problems with PC and GOE. This should not be a thing and judges need to score based on the performance they watched and not on what they think other judges would give, this is the only way to counter the problem of reputation scoring. I don't think the judges are corrupt (some of them maybe) and I do believe that they do this because they love the sport and want to be part of it but there is so much pressure on them from external sources (malicious or not) that is skewing results as well as hurting them and the sport
  9. Wow, I did really well in this round Maybe I should do all my predictions half asleep from now on, that seems to work better than actually thinking about them
  10. Good to know that they are willing to that, those girls deserve to the opportunity. I hope it applies to all skaters equally as well
  11. Does the federation pay the cost for coaching or is it the sponsors? I keep seeing suggestions for skaters to go to this famous coach or that and no one is discussing whether it is financially possible to do so. It must be much cheaper to stay in your own country after all and as far as I know FS doesn't really pay much. So unless there is someone willing to pay the costs I don't understand how the skaters can just pick whatever place they want to train in. I can see it for Marin because she has lots of sponsors but I am not sure about the other girls, unless the federation pays for it.
  12. That would be very easy to accomplish, they just need to splat few times and the audience will be cheering for them (we did that a lot today with the men) Joking aside, doesn't that give huge advantage to the top teams and home skaters?
  13. Sakatingscores.com already have a good (and expanding) database and they are doing some interesting statistics as well. I remember when it first started the owner (programmer) posted on GS and they said they had a code to read the pdf protocols. Maybe you can try contacting them,.The site is already getting attention from the skating community. I am computer scientists but my work is more in web development and user research so I am not sure how much help I could be.
  14. Glad to know it was not just me. It started after a chrome update and I thought it was related but apparently not.
  15. No, this was in Fukushima. It was part of the 24h TV in 2015 and he performed for people who could not go back to their homes because of the disaster. The whole thing is so heartbreaking which is why this particular performance has such an impact. I found the video of the segment without subtitles here I am pretty sure it has been translated but can't find it now
  16. My personal favorite and a must see for any fan I am pretty sure Yuzu himself likes it a lot to seeing how engaged he is with the song. Just look at him singing and skating
  17. Jeff does recommend music to Yuzu but Shae-Lynn didn't as far as I know, Yuzu himself chose phantom, seimei, and H&L. Though, I do want to know what kind of music she would choose for him since she has been working with him for awhile and knows his style and abilities best
  18. I am obviously terrible at making people interested in things I like. I have been trying to get my sisters interested for over a year now and it didn't work . To be fair they were trying to make me a Marvel fan for four year and that didn't work either I did convince my friend to follow the Olympics by gushing nonstop about Yuzu, and when I met her afterwards I found that she did not watch the men and is now a huge Medvedeva fan
  19. Nathan said that he will try collage and skating next year to see if he can balance both. If not, he may take time off studying for FS. The interview were he talked about it is here, it is the last question Boyang does not have Yuzu's charisma but that is natural because it is Yuzu's and I don't think he is giving it up (sorry for the terrible joke, I just had to). I do think that Boyang has charisma and a lot of personalty, he just needs to improve his skating skills enough to allow him to show it. He has been doing everything right so far, and we can clearly see the improvement, so I do believe that he will get there eventually. Not sure about the hight thing since Shoma already has a lot of fans and the judges clearly love him so it is obviously not affecting him much. He is a very talented performer and knows how to utilize his upper body perfectly which works great in taking the attention of his technical flaws, so I think he will be fine. I also think that expecting any skater to be the next Yuzu (or any great skater) is not fair to them. The should be allowed to build their own image and style and be themselves on ice. There will never be a second Yuzu just like there will not be another Nathan, Shoma, or Boyang. They are all unique and I feel we should be focusing on that rather than putting them in a box. This is the reason I get so annoyed when people say that all the Russian ladies are the same because while they do have similarities in their programs, they are also different so why focus only on the similarities and forget what makes them special. Edit: added link to Nathan's interview
  20. Perfect Any idea how many limbs we need to sell to be able to afford that exactly?
  21. I asked this before but I have to bring it up again Is there really no fan project to congratulate Yuzu for his second Olympic gold?!!!! We had a 100+ projects for his birthday, which happens every year, and nothing for this historic achievement?
  22. Few thousand years maybe There is always new music and new fans
  23. I don't care either, I just want to see him continue to skate for as long as he wants to
  24. First of all, I apologize if I was harsh in my post, I tend to be very direct when I am not sure how to express something in English and it comes of as mean sometimes. As for speculating, we all do that here and some of our ideas are more crazy than others but it is all for fun and to pass time until we see him again so there is no harm done. The reason why you got the response you did for your post was because it was a bit too negative and comes of somewhat dismissive of Yuzuru's achievement, which I am sure was not your intention. What Yuzu will do next season is more less dependent on his health, he could decide to jump a six quad layout (with 4A) or skip the season all together, so who knows. We will probably know more when he decides to appear again ad maybe tell us whether he is doing shows or not
