Proposed changes for next season
Neenah replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I am not sure using this particular result for comparison is that useful. Yuzu was flawless in this performance and that is very rare in the men's field. The new GOE, deductions and the weird PC guidelines would change things a lot for performances with mistakes. -

Wait a minute... They didn't like that the TES and PC were out of balance so they increased the weight of TES?!!!! -

I am probably missing something but how can a UR or a jump with edge call get +5 GOE -
Are the prices for costumes the same in the US and Japan?!!! $10,000.00 is more than a million yen according to Google

Proposed changes for next season

Thank @Xen that was very informative. I will add to it that this will probably result in more cheated 4Lz and 4F since the men will rush to get it and we (and they) know that they won't be penalized for bad technique. Also, as you said in your post, if the skater had an injury like Boyang's (or Yuzu) last season, which forced him to drop the 4Lz, then they'll have no choice but to go for it even if it makes the injury worse or lose any chance at winning. This actually worries me the most since we know that the skaters will jump on injured ankles if they felt they had a chance of a medal -
The problem that many fans of FS don't consider is the fact that this is an international sport with thousands of skaters (as well as coaches and specialists) all around the world with different ages and skill levels. Thus, there will never be a simple fix to any issue and every possible solution or change will take time (maybe years) to show results (good or bad). We as fans are always demanding this and that being fixed and want it to happen now but don't want to try things or take small steps toward the desired goal. Is raising the minimum age a good thing? We won't know unless we try. We are not getting anywhere by staying still, and skipping the process trying to jump to the finish line is impossible, so it must be done one step at a time.

I think Boyang's problem at Worlds was a combination of fatigue and inexperience. We must remember that this was his first Olympic season and he started it severely injured. He had to work through the injury and stress of the season, and he did manage to peak at 4CC and the Olympics. So it makes sense that he just couldn't keep his motivation high for another month. He was also not the only one who had this problem, I was there and everyone looked exhausted. I do believe that this was a good learning experience for him (though a costly one), but he seems like a person who learns from his mistakes and I think he will come back stronger next season. I just hope he is spared other injuries as I really want to see Boyang reach his full potential. He also needs to re-evaluate his relationship with the boards. I believe this kind of closeness is not really good for either of them and he needs to create some distance between them and define boundaries

I am sure his goal was to raise awareness not to create an army. I don't think he would appreciate it much if his fans turned into bullies themselves (which could happen easily when emotions are high) I personally understood his message differently. I felt that he said it to tell his fans that he is aware of the hate and it does hurt him, but the support and love of the fans helped him get through it. He was thanking the fans in that speech after all. I think that the best thing we can do is to stop the spread of hate and misinformation not just about Yuzu but about everyone and support him in a positive way (no attacking other skaters). Remember that we are already considered a cult of obsessive fans and any organized action may be (or most likely will) be presented as an organized mob attack and things will only get worse for us and Yuzu. We really need to be careful in our behaviour since we are a target and our actions can be used to hurt Yuzu as well

I wouldn't judge Yuzu's cooking skills by something he was doing for the first time. I have been cooking for 15 years and still get nervous and tentative when making or using something new. Though, if his mom does the cooking normally, he doesn't really need to learn but I think he does know how to make simple dishes and reheat stuff since his mother is also human and probably have off days when she needs help I never use the microwave to heat any liquid due to an unfortunate accident few years ago

Maybe the swan is healing well and is getting ready to be released to the wild We need a swan emoji

It seems that Medvedeva's injury is much worse than I first thought, and now we learn she has back problem?!!!! I hope she makes a full recovery, and I do think she made the right choice with Brian. He and the team at TCC were great in how they handled Yuzu's injury and supported him throughout the season. Good news from Polina as well. I am surprised at how quiet and quick her coaching change happened, but also happy she didn't have to go through a nasty breakup (at least not a public one)
-
Classy Zhenya just proved that maturity is not about age.. Well done Zhenya Now, she should just leave all the nastiness behind her and never look back. I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors

Seriously Yuzu, stay put for one month so that I can finish my thesis and graduate It is totally not my fault that I am an irresponsible adult who can't prioritize properly . It is all Yuzu's responsibility

What time is the press conference? I have work tomorrow and can't keep checking here or on social media all day not good for my blood pressure

I am trying not to lose my cool here but I absolutely cannot believe that there are people still defending Eteri after today. I am personally very very angry with her behaviour and what she did was the absolute worst. Nothing Medvedeva could have done would excuse Eteri attacking her like that. As a teacher, protecting your student is your first priority and she failed at that, and if the story about what Medvedeva said about Alina is true then she also broke the trust between them which is also unforgivable. I can't even imagine a reason why anyone would trust anything she says after this
-
Do you know something we don't? you seem very sure that everything Eteri said is true.. If you know something, please share
-
I don't care about Eteri feelings, side of the story or anything anymore. what she is doing is cruel and should never be done to a student ever. I hope Zhenya gets out of this unscathed. I worry for her as she is still young, injured, and had a very stressful year. Now more than ever I wish the rumor about TCC is true so that she can have a safe place to recover and stay away from negativity and the media. Stay safe Zhenya

Proposed changes for next season

Out of curiosity, if they separate the judges into PC and GOE panels how can we stop the PC panel from falling asleep or getting distracted? This is a serious question and I was thinking about it because I tried that mock judging exercise (here in on the planet) and found it so boring. I tried to watch the performance first to give GOE and that worked fine because you are only looking at one element at a time, but when I watched the performance to try and judge PC, I found my mind wondering and I got really bored. That happened when I was only judging one group, so how would the judges do it when judging at Worlds or other big competitions with too many skaters. Wouldn't that make reputation scoring worse because a bored (or distracted) judge who was not paying attention would just give the scores expected for the skaters? I know the judges are professionals and that this should not happen with them, but is it true? Does being trained really help in this case? is it enough to overcome the human nature and our short attention span? -
Brian can definitely help Zhenya and she would need what he offers with the new GOE rules. Now that there is Alina (and probably others) at the top I don't see her getting lots of free candies so fixing her jumps is her best chance for staying competitive. I admire Zhenya a lot and wish her the best in the future. The girl is talented and has huge potential and I am looking forward to her new programs

2018/2019 Season Program Announcements

Hopefully he will like one of them and decided to make it a competitive program Nothing against Higuchi and her choreography but he really needs something different -
Proposed changes for next season

Will that really happen though? The judges have been giving PC according to TES in all disciplines lately and I don't see that changing just because we have new rules. If the same trend continues, skaters who have an advantage in TES will always gain an advantage in PC. As for the GOE, will the judges give +4 or +5 for triples (for men)? or are we going to see all triples capped at +3. We joked before about Yuzuru doing dance moves in the air for his 3F to get perfect 3 GOE but it is actually a real problem. Quads get higher GOE just for being quads while triples don't, no matter how good they are The ISU can talk about the loss of artistry all they want, no rules will change what is happening. The only solution is to stop the judges from over rewarding difficulty and truly focus on quality of everything not just jumps. I don't like how even the new proposals are very focused on jumps as if everything else is an afterthought- 685 replies

I wish my thesis writing progressed as fast as this thread, I would have finished my PhD a year ago As for the discussion for the last don't know how many pages about Boyang, threats, world standings, and everything else... I personally don't care Just last week, I got the two time Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu enjoying himself in his own ice show, skating without pain and promising me at least another season of competition I can't and won't ask for more You guys do all the worrying and I will be here enjoying myself with all the Yuzu goodness
