  1. Anything but Roxanne please
  2. You make it sound like we need a good reason to freak out
  3. But what if other feds tried to sneak in their own judges
  4. You guys do realize they didn't miss the deadline yet right? And the website crashing is totally on us as well, though they do deserve it
  5. I am very unproductive when waiting for something Come on ISU, there is a paper than needs to be written and it is all your fault that it's not happening Good luck to anyone who is trying to get tickets, I hope you all get to see Yuzu while I watch from faraway green with envy
  6. Yes, that PC deduction is the stupidest rule they came up with. I hate rules that only apply to a subset of the skaters I haven't posted anything because I was just doing it for fun. I have a script to calculate the score (modified the one from the online calculator) and I tested different layouts whenever I had free time. Skatingscores provided the historic context of how the judges normally evaluated specific elements for each skater.
  7. I don't think that testing the new rules based on past competition results would give an accurate result because we can't guarantee that the judges will evaluate the GOE the same way they did then (what happened in the past season will effect how judges perceive skaters a.k.a. reputation judging). However, I did run the numbers on different layouts for all top men and ladies but unlike many people who did this I applied GOE based on historic reference. Basically, I looked at what the judges gave each element (for a specific skater) in the past and based on that tried to predict what they may give using the new system. For example, Yuzu's 3F was never given perfect GOE even though it hits the bullet points required, so expecting it to get +5 in the new system would be unrealistic. On the other hand Nathan and Shoma's quads received +3 GOE from some of the judges in the panel on many occasions and I can't for the life of me figure out what bullet points those jumps hit to deserve it. Thus, it is not beyond reason to expect them to get 3 or more in GOE for the same jumps in the new system. I don't really understand why many expect jumps that were getting above average GOE to suddenly start receiving less with the new rules, and I am expecting quads in particular to be clearing the required bullet points by default (unless there is an obvious mistake) just my opinion so ignore it if you don't agree In addition, the younger men have an advantage over Yuzu in that they are on their way up while he is kind of stuck at the top. We can easily predict their PC and GOE to rise in the next couple of years while Yuzu has already maxed out on PC and his GOE is already very high. His score threshold for improvement is lower than theirs and the fact that he is, as of last year on top, doesn't mean it would be the same this year or the next. Those guys will get better and their score will reflect it because they have space to show their progress while Yuzu can have an artistic revolution on ice and we won't see much difference in his scores. Disclaimer: I feel that I need to clarify that I do not think that Yuzu is a victim or that he is targeted by the new rules. I am just trying to look at the whole scene realistically and thinking about the best way to approach the new system (just for fun). I am also definitely not a hater and have no intention of being mean to or picking on Nathan and Shoma, I love them but they make for a perfect example that everyone would recognise.
  8. In theory, the rule change favours Yuzu and disadvantages Nathan because of the difference in quality. However, if we apply the new rules using the judges scoring tendencies from past seasons for both skaters, that disadvantage disappears. The judges tend to give higher GOE to quads (especially the more difficult ones) even if the quality is not great and no bullet points were met. considering how much impact the GOE will have in the new rules (its huge), this tendency of the judges will benefit Nathan very much. All he needs is to stay on his feet and the judges will most likely give him +3 GOE and that is 14.95 compared to a 4S with +5 GOE which is 14.55. Looking at this, which would be easier to accomplish a +3 GOE 4Lz or 4F from Nathan or a +5 GOE 4S or 4T from Yuzu or anyone else (history shows the former is more likely to happen). BTW, this is not about Nathan in particular but he is a perfect example considering his arsenal of quads. Any other skater who can consistently land a 4Lz and a 4F will have a similar advantage. I feel like many fans do not really realize how much the GOE will impact the scores with the new rules. It is really scary how much ground someone with Nathan's jumps potential can make up in GOE even without having perfect jumps, just because the judges will most likely give positive GOE. We also keep making the mistake of calculating perfect scores and optimized layouts (especially for Yuzu), which looks great on paper but are really unrealistic expectations considering his health situation and what we've seen from the judges in past seasons.
  9. I don't really understand why you think he is being disrespected here. We joke a lot and tend to exaggerate but we are also gushing 99% of the time and as you said what some of us don't like, others do. We just discuss it, share our opinions, and move along while remaining civil. Honestly, if the kind of criticism we have here is as bad or disrespectful as you are making it to be, then my family really hate me since I have been criticized excessively by them all my life (except I know it was all coming from love with no malice or hate). As for Dory, it is just a nickname given to the costume because of the color scheme and nothing else. Even the Haru yo koi costume was compared to a fish at some point because of the ruffles and we are all (mostly) in love with it. The whole thing is just for fun and I don't see why Yuzu would be upset by it. People have been complaining about the boob skirt (R&J 2) for years now and that never bothered him or made him change himself. We are a bunch of people with a mutual appreciation for an amazing skater and a wonderful human being, which makes us friends (at least that is how I feel). We welcome you here and hope you can change your opinion of the planet by interacting and talking with us more. May I suggest you spend some time going through the different topics on the forum to see how much we love and appreciate Yuzu and each other ETA: I just realized that you have been a member since May 2017 and now I am more confused.. Maybe this is really not the kind of place you would be comfortable in but I will say it again, you are welcome here to chat with us and to disagree and we would love to have you around, but please be respectful of the people here, there is no need to attack others or hurt their feelings
  10. Do you guys see it? source: screen shot made by me Hopefully this hasn't been shared before and I totally missed it because I am very proud of my discovery (yes, I need to get a life)
  11. Yes, this is exactly what I am hoping for After CiONTU I kept watching these two performance over and over thinking how great it would be if he skated to something like that with his current skills I may have considered spamming Jeff social media accounts with those videos to give him a hint (or a hit on the head, whichever works)
  12. The ruffles are great as a concept but the execution can be better. The way they are now is as if they just attached them afterwards because they wanted ruffles and are not really part of the outfit I still love the costume and would have no problem if he kept it the way it is now Pink is my favorite color but I was always criticized for wearing or buying anything pink because it was "too girly"
  13. H&L was choreographed with these elements in mind so it works, while Haru yo Koi on the other hand does not have that in its design. It is a program that is made to respond to the music more than to certain requirements. It may work if they decided to change it but I would miss this free and unconstrained version a lot if that happened. I also don't really think it would become the free but there is a good chance it may be his expedition. To be honest, I also think that Shae-Lynn is better at integrating required elements into the choreography than most other choreographers so I would have been more optimistic if she was the choreographer because she definitely can produce something like H&L again.
  14. I hope it is not the quads, required elements, and levels would kill the softness and beauty of the program. For me, the best thing about Haru yo koi and Notte stellata is the fact that it is mostly pure skating to the music with no care for BV or tricks and I would be very sad if this program is ruined by adding too many things to it to make it competitive. Though I do want to see the reaction to the costume if he did wear it to completion (or something similar). There is a real potential for entertainment there
  15. Too many things happening today... I am so confused
  16. I saw the sunny smile at the end and totally forgot about him not singing
  17. They should take all the videos and photos they can now before a certain someone comes back
  18. This is really sweet, I like it I always enjoy it when people who are not artists sing songs like that, it gives me a warm feeling and I think they did great
  19. I think it is likely he will not be challenging too much difficulty in the beginning of the season at least (none of the skater should IMO). With the change of rules it is better to stick to a familiar layout you can execute well and observe how the judges are using the system before taking any risks. It is also better to start strong and push the judges to give high GOE from the beginning rather than have a bad start for the season and then try to climb up which is much harder. There is off course the issue of his ankle which we don't really know much about. He did say that the 4L and 4Lz are a problem so it may take longer for those two jumps to make it back to his programs. Yuzu has a lot of work to do to get back to his competitive form, especially if he wants to do it safely. I personally expect the 4L back but I don't really know about the 4Lz since training both of them would probably be bad for his ankle and he has only a couple of months to be ready.
  20. Yes, this is close to what I am getting
  21. You maybe correct but the GOE on that app is not working correctly for me so I can't check
  22. But the app only have +3 to -3 GOE, how are you calculating the new GOE using it?!!!!
  23. I don't know what I am doing wrong but I can't replicate your numbers at all. I am using my own script and when I test the layouts you mentioned, I get much lower scores Would you mind sharing the detailed scoring for those layout (at least one) so that I can find where I am messing up
  24. Unfortunately it is in the hands of the judges and not Mr.Hanyu. I personally don't expect them to give him +5 even if he hits the bullets for it just like they didn't give him +3 when it was clearly deserved. I am also sure that Nathan will be getting the world champion boost as well and will have higher PC and GOE next season even if his skating doesn't improve, which is is why I don't think he is disadvantaged at all by the new rules even if he loses more BV than the others.
