This is one of the most perfect moments I've seen captured anywhere. It will make a great shot for the climactic final scene of his biopic (so help me, it will be made!) Now, how to remove that dang logo...

Thank you so much for giving us all these translations! ^_^

A video about why Ippei-kun keeps showing up at Yuzu's performanes. (spoiler alert: there is no explanation)

It looked like he said "ganbarimasu" when they high-fived but not sure before that.

They might be a brand of anime action figure called Nendoroid. Some of the items on the desk as well as the school bag are miniatures from a japanese brand called Re-ment. I have that bag and it comes with the bear on it but this person seems to have painted it to look like Pooh.

Please, everyone, cheer loudly for the previous skater at the Olympics! I love Matsuoka-san. Is this inteview available in full anywhere? I'll take subtitles or no subtitles.

Oh lord, thus is exactly what I needed after a super exhausting day. I'm glad it auto-loops because I don't have the energy to keep pressing play forever. Is this why some people throw frogs and why that one lady was dressed as a frog? What is the frog thing? What's with the back-slapping? There's a Sasuke All-star (Japanese Ninja Warrior contestant) that insists on it before he starts. Where does it come from?

To be fair, it really does look like it was made in the 80s.

Somehow, watching it through the season with all its mistakes and noticing the fine choreographic adjustments in each performance that culminated in perfection in Helsinki made the moment all the more glorious. (I did that retrospectively, though, because accidentally turning on the TV mid-H&L was the moment my soul was handed over to skating.) It's so unreal.

Thanks a lot for this!

We need a Wikileaks type organisation to protect our sources.

Thanks very much for this info and links to Twitter accounts! Don't fans know that you can buy teeny HD spy cameras that look like shirt buttons and such? Because you can! I would gladly outfit the entire audience with them if it meant precious jump footage!

Thank you very much! This will do nicely!

Ok, let's get real for a minute, you guyses. 4t-3a-3a-3a-1a from FaOI 2013 or whenever. Is there fancam footage? Did I dream having seen it? I'm asking for a friend. >_>

Everyone just looked at me with a worried look and asked what was happening. I was trying to shove my laughter back down. I love Kumamon; he will live in my heart forever. O_O

Haniwa are so cute! I watched a show posted on GS (MY NAME SHOW) that traced the origins of the Hanyu name and the variant from Ibaraki does come from haniwa - spefifically the clay in Ibaraki that was used to make them. Then for some reason the kanji changed to feathers. :) I think our Hanyu gets his name from a shrine in Miyagi, though.

Skating on the Planet
SparkleSalad replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I thought I'd share with you all a bit of inspiration I found. It's not skating related but it just goes to show that age isn't everything. This is an old TV spot about a computer animator from London who saw a Peking Opera performance and was so inspired that, at age 32 and with no Mandarin, went to train as a performer in Beijing for 10 years. (Most start before they're 10!) His flexibility is insane for someone I assume spent most of their time in a chair. -
I know how to save for those tickets, now! So easy!

Favorite commentators and their famous lines

He'll come around, he's just blinded by his American Patriotism TM. -
The translation is a little off. He said he liked tonkatsu (pork cutlet, the kind used in katsudon) and gyoza. I think the anime fans may have more fuel for their Yuzu theory if they hear that!

Thanks for the info. I skipped through that video but couldn't find the exact sound. A synth is what I'm looking for but it's a very particular sound that is used over and over in Japanese movies and TV, mostly 80s and 90s. It must be a certain instrument/equipment because I hear it so often but it's different from what was popular in 80s Hollywood movies, for example. Even in the live music concert for SEIMEI it didn't sound exactly right but that could be the acoustics/recording quality. I found video of people trying to play it on YouTube but, again, the sound wasn't quite the same. I might be a but if a maniac about this.

Sakurai Sho is listed as 171cm and they looked a similar height when I saw them together on TV. Idols often puff up their hair and wear heels and "secret boots" to boost their height, though, so not very scientific.
