My moment was your namesake at Boston. Chills.

Thank you! I have it on my harddrive but prefer using a tabIet to watch. It helps to cozy up to idol LJ groups to dig this stuff up, too, but they're so painfully strict about everything. That's actually how I got on to Yuzu this year. Someone uploaded a clip of Sakurai Sho talking about him and Shoma @4CC.

EDIT: found I wonder if any of you would possibly have a link to the Zen Nihon/Japanese Nationals 2015 FS of Seimei in HD. It seems the TV network has had it taken down even on Dailymotion and I can only find it in low quality. To quote a pumpkin: #SAD. Thank you in advance, dear Yuzu detectives!

I remember watching this live and thinking that kid was weird (I didn't see him skate until Boston)! It all makes sense!

I left out no appetite which is caused by the stomach emptying a lot slower than normal. There is another Japanese celebrity, Ninomiya Kazunari, who is still being cast as a highschooler in his 30s. He has all the same things I mentioned and is incredibly flexible and prone to injury.

Yuzu's delayed axel is unbelievable. At first I thought there must be somethung wrong with the video because it just doesn't look physically possible. Then I remembered that gravity on planet Hanyu isn't the same as Earth.

If you want to learn more there is a medical condition called Ehlers Danlos Type III which varies in severity. Basically the cause of hyperflexibility is the same among people who are just very bendy and people who are quite disabled by it. A pale complexion, youthful appearnce, very soft skin, shortsightedness, sensitivity to chemicals are all related to hyperflexibility and collagen deficiency. It's very interesting and something that still needs a lot of studying but once you know you have it you can more or less pick others out of a crowd. It's like a secret club.
-
Fun medical fact time: hyperflexible people have more porous soft tissue which makes them more sensitive to chemicals. I'm the same and had a hard time with the chlorine.

I wouldn't call it privilege. Here in Australia it's part of the school curriculum and we start quite young. There are local pools everywhere and a lot in backyards and of course a lot of holidays at the beach, so it's really a necessary class for safety. We learn CPR at the same time, for example. Meanwhile, in Japan: #humanfruitloops

Look at all those cameras! You could probably put togethera 3D video of every performance if you had all that footage. Thank you, dear dedicated camera mamas.

The other thing with anything using the body is that when you get close to your limit in terms of how fast your muscles can move, it's easier to maintain that rhythm as you just have to focus on your maximum effort rather than controlling your pace. Then it becomes more a matter of stamina and fatigue rather than rhythm control. Mentally, too, you can leave your mind a bit more and enter into a zone outside and above the careful concentration and emotional sensitivity required for more nuanced pieces and performances. At least that's what this rambler has always found.

How wonderful to be from such a talented family! If you ever get that list sorted out I'm sure a lot of people here would love to see it! Figure skating has made me extremely nerdy for charts and graphs and lists.

It really exposes your flaws. I found it more challenging than very fast music as a child studying ballet and piano both. I can't imagine the difficulty with something like quads. O_O

Very flexible people generally age well. It's to do with a lack of of a kind of collagen in the body which affects skin as well as soft tissue. I bet you his skin is stretchy, too. You'd think from all the cosmetics released claiming to boost collagen to reduce wrinkles it'd be the other way around but there you go. (Short sightedness and lack of appetite also go hand in hand with it.)

Thank you! I'm surprised about H&L not being by the same designer. It definitely looks like it was inspired by the other.

Re: slow music being easier. Was it in the Seimei documentary I just watched or the Shizuka interview? Or one of the other million videos I clicked on today? But I'm sure he brought up that with slow music it requires more effort to sync oneself with the music. Playing an instrument is the same. If you play a simple scale on a piano it's much easier to play it evenly if you play it fast. Playing it slowly takes good control and a strong sense of rhythm.

Thank you both! I understand some Japanese so I'll see how I go! Edit: Wow! This is fantastic! It's always interesting to hear from Nomura Mansai! I didn't know about Seimei Jinja! I'll have to visit during my next trip. There are so many small sbrines and temples in Kyoto that you rarely hear about. If anyone isinterested, there is a show straming on Crunchyroll called "The Guide - 5 Stars in Kyoto" that explores a lot of the smaller, lesser known religious spots in Kyoto.

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
SparkleSalad replied to CupidsBow's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I want next season to be something out of a cheap, tacky dance movie where he sticks it to the judges and throws away his chance at gold to present something outrageously avant garde. Art above sport. Warhorses are so unbelievably dull. I most enjoy his Japanese themed programs (and Chopin.)
