Damn straight it doesn't.

Some of us are actually having a great time here. It does sorta help not looking at the results, though... ;-)

Start early and make a drinking game out of it, I should think. The judging Bingo card. *cheers*

We'll end up in the ER for alcohol poisoning before the last flight. Of course, considering how lovely things are, that may actually end up being a good thing. Sigh.

Glad I didn't watch live, I guess...Just your reactions are enough to know we have GPF 2.0/ What-if-TCC-Men-were-there comp.

Problems with that: 1) was he forced to donate that pair? why did it? 2) what I heard was that pair is now too worn out anyway. So, again, still avoidable.

His old boot worn out too fast and the new one give him trouble even though he got a few weeks to break in. I agree it can be avoidable, but sometimes things just go wrong that skater can't control it. Keiji also have boot issue too.

Just additional reminder that Yuzuru Hanyu's pain threshold allows him to skate to a WR on a lisfrantic injuried foot WITHOUT actually 100% working painkillers bc it would kill the emotions of his skate. So, even if his breaking the new boots take 3x as much time bc he does three pairs at once, I can believe it. Any other skater would probably rub their skin off their feet, and have to take time off, just to avoid infection or smt (though maybe I should leave that to skating satellites). Also, where did I read they are going through at least three pairs a year? That's at least six pairs to break in a year to have two spares at all times isn't it.

Also, Shoma is-just like any other Japanese rep I guess- not making excuses from it, just stating a facts how they are, since the people asked about them (and his first answer was 'I'm fine' followed by 'I know boots situation isn't any excuse of poor performance' etc. So we do not have to rub salt into that injury, since contrary to other teams, Shoma and his team take full responsibility for what's going on.)

I agree! You don't hear athletes of other sports attribute poor performance to equipment issues. I would even say it's expected for athletes competing at that level to have sufficient back-up plans. Even if equipment issues is the reason, then the more the athlete should be blamed for that.

I agree...I like Vincent, but I'll only root for him to podium when he grows into the awesome skater he has the potential to become.

Really? No 'the court sucked balls'/'my laces didn't hold well?'? no 'weather conditions were bad'? allow me to say I don't believe it

Ok Last words. Where're Yuzu and Javi when we need them ?????????

Taking their well-deserved rest after keeping this sport evolving for the past 4-5 years? C'mon, they have literally NO RESPONSIBILITY to do so, it should be ISU's job!

His stsq was level 4 from the beginning, and the last spin as well, I think. He almost always gets level 4 on the stsq, it's very neatly planned, that choreography.

thank you, Shae Lynn for the only thing we agree on in Nathan's Sp...

It's like someone's saying behind the back "kmon, kmon give the gold medal faster" like Yuzu's gonna walk into the room any minute!

Well, coming back from 5th he already checked off, coming back from the three months black out as well, I feel they kind of can have the real fear of Yuzuru just coming through with I changed my mind I'm withdrawing my withdrawal, and they will be able to do absolutely nothing, because EVERYBODY loves having him on the ice.

I'm not a Boyang fan but I'm so angry and sad for him to be always underscored and judged harshly than the others.

It must be hard to be Boyang fans. I hope boyang has a really great skate for FS and ended up podium. (Or be a champion)

He's a sQuad's Yuzu, just still within the human category (though that 4Lz...), so he's taking a bit longer to develop. I think Yuzu had exactly a one season of being scored with the same leniency as the rest of the field (from Sochi till first half of 14/15)? So, I kind of feel like a lot of older Yuzu fans feels for and can relate with Boyang's fans...

If there is a one thing I've learned through scrolling through these few pages of this thread (few...lol), it's that we really need to find a way to flood ISU with complaints. We can even translate complaints from Japanese, Chinese and Russian fans into English so that they have no language barrier to hide behind, pun intended.

Who knows? Last time Fanyus mass-complained we got four-hour footage of Yuzu-oriented ice show cam...nothing worse than what is now can't possibly come out of that, plus if this was union of the Figure Skating, not only (sometimes I feel like those 'only Yuzu' fans know more about other disciplines and the sport overal than some professional commenters etc) Yuzu Fans, it would make a lot of difference, maybe?

Also, no to alcohol before the FS! What if you develop an immunity to it and will have to watch it sober?!

Also2: Judge 7 and 8 are a good show of what happens if you start drinking before the actual competition. Don't be like them, guys.

I kinda root for him because he doesn't come from the figure skating region of the country :P but his music for the free is what keeps me from being a fan

Also LOL #noBoyangErasure

I noticed Shoma stumbled after 3A on his way to his last spins in the end of the program. In StSq I didn´t see he had any problem.

We'll add ice cream and chocolate to it so there'll definitely be a hangover with sugar overdose

@Aotoshiro, my beef with the boot issue is not that Uno and his team are using it as an excuse. It's that fans are using it as an excuse. And in a bit related issue, how judges are judging him based on his perceived ability, instead of what he actually delivered just now. That was a poor skate, but the score definitely did not reflect that.

Also, Judges 7&8 are Canadian and Russian respectively.

Yes, the stumble was after 3A, just before the spin.

It was the fact that he still received 9+ for SS that makes my eyes almost didn't roll back.

The Stsq was level 3 in real time tho, but it got elevated into level 4 after review. Which raises eyebrows, to say the least.

ETA: Judge 3, the Japanese judge, gave Uno 8.75 for SS - a score that was discarded of course. All other judges gave 9 or more.

Yuzu isn't even here but I'm so freaking mad for Boyang. So mad that my anger has went from ISU to USFS to be misplaced at the door of the Chinese fed for not playing the game or doing it well, and that's even worst acknowledging that there is a game to be played. Nothing against Nathan or Vincent, because well some commentators did say the same about Yuzu as an upcomer, but some fans already calling them future World champ and Oly champ grate on my nerves more than anything now because I see the gifts and I don't want it to be a norm.

The one thing in Boyang's favor for the FS is that he seems to have one of the best mentality.

Sad party.

I rewatched his SP and you're right. The stumble is right before the last spin. I guess my brain mess up after seeing Boyang's score. I will edit my post.

Overall this was an enjoyable competition. Most of the men did great and the scoring was not crazy. Except the top men's scores which was a mess. So quick impressions:

I agree with Kolyada's score, he is really good live and have beautiful  flow on the ice. He is also very in tone with the music.

Nathan have a quarter of a program only and his Pc's baffle me. Glad they didn't go all crazy with his GOE because his jumps are average at best

Boyang was great and his 4t looked fine but I am not sure since there was too much ice flying. I did expect him to get lower GOE because of how close he lands to the boards, that was scary. Nonetheless, he was amazing and at least had a program unlike so I can't understand his PC being less than Nathan. There was not a single  PC category were I would give Nathan the edge.

Vincent is all drama but no depth or substance. He is expressive and clearly has potential but I think the judges are rewarding him too early just like Nathan. As for UR, his 4f and 3a were rotated but I couldn't see the combo so I am not sure about it.

I think both Keegan and Keiji were underscored. I really don't understand why Keiji's score was so low, he was really good and performed the hell out of that program

Sorry for any misspelling or errors, writing on the phone is hard
