Am I the only one yuzu fan that wnt Shoma to win Worlds so we can get 3 tickets for nxt year? I knw it depends on the other 2 as well but still...

I've been wanting Shoma to win ever since Yuzu made official he wouldn't be there.  It's not my concern with how many skaters Japan can send next season but I just like Shoma better than the others.  I'd like the silver to go to Boyang.  Bronze?  No favorite.  As for Shoma, I think becoming World Champion would do wonders for his confidence issues away from the ice.  Yuzu's been doing what he can to guide Shoma in his dealings with the public and the media but I think Yuzu's absence in Milan would put Shoma in a situation where he'd have to step up and do what's needed.  Another reason is that I like Shoma's personality which is almost as sweet and ambitious as Yuzu's.  If Yuzu were training in Japan I figure Shoma would be part of his inner circle now.  His inner circle?  I don't have any evidence aside from observing how Yuzu deals with other people both on the ice and off it.  Nobu would seem to me to be number one and I think Misha also figures in there somehow.  Others?  Don't know.  In any case, getting back to the reason for this post, I'm for Shoma.

I think @Murieleirum's sentiments are fair enough, and more about people saying the event won't be fun or exciting or worth watching - full stop. Not saying not fun/worth watching for them specifically, which is subjective and understandable, but projecting their own feelings to make it sound like an objective judgment on the event itself, and by extension the skaters who will be there. I don't think she's talking about people not going because it's too expensive because their favourites are not there, or not watching because their favourites are not there. That's fair enough, figure skating fans or not, our time and money are our own, we can choose what to do with it and prioritise as we like. I think she's annoyed with people who extend that to say that it won't be an exciting event at all, or that it's not worth watching.

For one thing, that does seem disrespectful to skaters who have worked so hard to get there, and for another, if figure skating fans declare it's just not worth watching at all on social media, it will affect how any casual viewer might watch it. A casual viewer who watches it with an open mind instead of that preconceived notion might find it fun and exciting anyway.

Gotcha. I'm assuming this is referring to people on Twitter and not so much people on this forum who are all Yuzu fan AND figure skating fans.

That's how I took it. She's volunteering at Milan so she must've seen and heard far too much of that kind of stuff. I didn't really read anything she said as pointing at people who don't go, or don't watch, because Yuzu isn't there or because Zhenya isn't there.

Personally, I'll be watching, but not in the schedule-everything-to-keep-myself-free-for-it kind of way. I'll catch as much as I can but I have a few skaters I really want to catch, and for the rest, I'll watch as many as I can. I expected Yuzu's WD, and but Han Yan WD punctured by enthusiasm a bit hard tbh. :/ There are still skaters I want to see, and hopefully they'll do well without splatting and it'll be a good event, even if not of the kind of quality it would have with Yuzu and Javi. A good time for less popular skaters to step up and have the skate of their lives. Like Voronov did in the GPs, and how Ross Miner did at US Nats. Or even how Mako did at WJC, she  wasn't a favourite to podium.

I'm exactly the same way. I don't even know the competition schedule so don't know if I have to watch at weird times. If it's in the middle of the night on a weeknight, I'd probably just wait for it to be uploaded versus following in real time. That would have been a different story had Yuzu, Sui/Han had skated.

I would like Shoma to win. Even though his programs this season have been a little bland, I like his skating and I like the idea of the medal staying with Japan. It would suck that YUzu wouldn't be world no.1 but it's also....to be expected since he's missed like 90% of the season. I do have the feeling that Shoma would take a win at Worlds the same way he takes his nationals titles - as if he won in Yuzuru's place and the title doesn't really belong to him, more he's just reserving the title for YUzuru. Which would be sad, because it would be nice for Shoma to have an achievement he felt belonged to him so he could really celebrate how far he's come.

My second to win is Boyang. He has a good personality and charisma and at least tries to improve his weak spots.

Tbh I don't particularly even want Nathan on the podium. I find his skating dull and this season all he really proved was that he could take good work from great choreographers and reduce it to nothing.  People joke about Boyang having the music skate for him but Nathan relies entirely on the music to give him a personality in the SP and relies heavily on the music to carry him in his FS too. He could do an 8 quad program and I still wouldn't want him to win Worlds. I don't see Nathan as an equal to Yuzuru at all. He's a million steps behind.

Wait I thought that even if Shoma wins worlds Yuzuru would still be first in the world standings?

Only until July 1st. With the new season, the WS will reset and lose the 2015/2016 season points, as well as only count 2016/2017 at 70%. Thus Yuzu will drop to 3rd, most likely, because sadly he missed a bunch of points in the GP circuit this season.

Thanks for clarifying!

Despite all the withdrawals (:13877886:) I'm still really excited to go to Milan! And here's my companion, Lil' Dragon. I'm gonna throw him for Boyangman, though it might be a little hard to part with him. (Also, he doesn't normally have heart eyes, I just thought it looked cute :4:)

There are also Yuzu fans who think Shoma is uber awesome and want him

to win because it’s Shoma. :-)

I want Boyang to win for all the reasons I've given before.  I really don't want Nathan because I find his jump technique jarring and I dislike the way he ditches his choreography for the jumps.  I have nothing against him personally - he seems perfectly pleasant in interview,  if a bit bland ( though that could be the questions they ask) and I have tried realllllly hard not to let the hubris of the American media prejudice me against him.  I don't want Shoma to win because I don't see any evidence of him or his team trying to fix his technique, and the patented stare doesn't equate to expression or interpretation to me.

I hope some of the others have good skates - Kovtun, Rizzo, Vassilievs, I'd like Misha Ge to go out with a SB.

I'd like James/Cipres and Marchei/ Hotarek to do well in pairs and I hope Candyman doesn't win and T/M find something that suits their style better next season.

I hope Japanese ladies get that third spot back.

Personally, this time I just don’t care that much who wins, and I can be pretty relaxed while watching it. Yay!!!

*whispers You sure? What about Wakababy?*

On the men's side, I guess Shoma has a really good shot of winning. But some part of me wants Boyang to win, if nothing else just to see shocked media circles. Pass me the popcorn if it happens.

I'll get the popcorn ready for us.

I just want Wakababy to hold it together and not fall apart. And be proud of herself. :)

and I want to see Boyang’s lutz live...
