btw why don't China and Spain send substitutes for Han Yan and Javi as they both have 2 spots? Like give young skaters opportunities to compete in big game  Or they don't have anyone that satisfy minimum TES requirement in senior circuit?

pretty sure at least for Spain that is what's happening. AFAIK Raya had worse results this season than Montoya, but he might carry the minimum TES over from the previous season (or at least I think that's how this works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

They should invite Montoya regardless of his TES and just get him to come to the Gala. That man can entertain the crowds like no one else!!!

I can understand being somewhat disheartened by the big names in figure skating WDing because they just got off of the Olympics and Worlds is way too close to the Olympics, but saying that it's "not fun to watch without the real champions" dismisses any talent the alternates have in the sport.

I do think that considerations should be made in the future and possibly look into having Worlds later during an Olympic year to allow more skaters to compete.

I kind of agree though. I stop watching GP series because Yuzuru's out. The only event where almost everyone is competing is Women. Men is really down to the sQUAD and really other than Boyang, I'm not that excited. Pairs might be exciting since Sui/Han and I think the OGM are competing? Eh what do I know. I really only follow for Yuzu.

Hhm all the young stars are there. Men single's is now the most popular discipline and not only Yuzu but Shoma/Boyang/Nathan/Vincent alr attracts tons of fans compared to their ladies correspondings. I'm sure ppl and media now are more concerned about them than Javi/Patrick. Many figure skating fans (esp new fans) would still expect the unexpected battle among these strong youngsters (unlike the expected outcome in ladies:slinkaway:). It's just Yuzu is tooooo dominant in the sport (in popularity and reputation) so it feels weird there's no him in such big competitions.

Ofc if u are Fanyu only, no Yuzu is alr a solid reason to pass :9:

I think medvedeva definitely has more fans than Shoma/Boyang or Nathan. Plus now with her rivarly with Zagitova I see a lot of more people excited.

It's just the same old Zhenya vs Alina thing and there's no difference about their rivalry between Worlds and their previous comps so Worlds is just "one of those events". And with how the scoring works now, Zhenya could no longer win even w a clean perf so ppl alr know result except Alina bombs her perf which is unlikely lol, so what to be excited about. I'm talking about general skating fans who's looking for unexpectedness and competitiveness in the sport, they'd be more excited w men event.

I kinda see both sides. Some big names WDing do not automatically means the competition suddenly gets flat. But you also can't force people to be excited when their favourite isn't  competing. If it's not fun for them, it's not fun for them.
