It's a higher PCS score than Caro too

Nobody can fight that, not even a clean Zhenya. Nobody. Sigh.

Amazing. I’m currently trying to process how little pcs mean at this point

I am at a point where I'm finding it all morbidly hilarious. Just imagine what will happen if both Alina and Zhenya are clean, and the skating order is Alina first, then Zhenya? That means that if the judges want to reward Zhenya, who is undoubtedly a better overall skater, they are going to have to almost max her out on PCS. And it still might not matter. It's ... seriously hilarious.

Ah well, nothing we can do.

Alina getting more PCS than Caro is ridiculous...

At least caro wins skating skills, composition, and interpretation :slinkaway: but alina's PE is way higher than caro, and also caro lost TR to her.. well whatevs I guess lol

I am up and watching with a friend who doesn't know FS, but was a (ballet) dancer.

When Zagitova's score was announced this is her comment "Okay, you have to explain to me how that is the highest scoring dance. It was choppy! That's supposed to emulate ballet, right, with tutu, the music, and all? Her posture! *flailing hands*"

And I don't know how to answer her, without trashing this sport I tried so hard to make her watch.

In the ladies field-very little. It's all high TES, go clean or go home. And scary that TP is actually working today.

I had to watch while doing excels at work, but still:

1) I was worried that Mirai's 3A was UR since it looked a bit hooked. But guess she was within a quarter, so go Mirai! I hope she carries this through to the individual event and lands both 3A's clean, making history for US ladies. Let's not forget- we're talking about a female skater doing 3A's (and even learning them) past age 20.

2) Alina-her performance today was good, but still slightly tighter than her best at Rus Nats so far. The PCS is a bit high, I'm pretty sure dear judges that given her TES scores, a PCs of 68-70 should still see her quite tidely through the top 3. But still, nice performance, good job with controlling whatever nerves might exist at your first Olys outing.

3) I facepalmed when Kaori missed her 3Lz3T...eeks, but based on the protocols, well Japanese ladies will need to claw their way to even top 6. Ouch.

4) Kostner- um, someone recommend a nice light blue costume for her? I'm not sure if royal, dark plum purple brings up an image of the afternoon of a faun...

You mean a scenario where the judges finally throw all pretense out the window and we finally get to see 80.0 pcs?

Caro should lose TR to Alina, I'm fine with that because Caro is undoubtedly way overscored in TR in both the SP and the FS. And I think what Alina does is insanely difficult, in terms of TES. That's unique pretty much, so good. I just wish they didn't push her PCS to this because I feel like I would enjoy her overall more and I should, because she really is doing something special.

I honestly do think she's overscored in PCS, even in the context of general overscoring that is going on, that includes everyone so it bugs me in various ways but well, as I said, it is what it is.

Yes, her posture is terrible for ballet. Actually, it’s the exact opposite of proper ballet posture. Arched back, bum out, head back, really not very nice to look at.

Sorry off current topic:

Kaori's comment after her performance (rough translation)

(How was skating for the first time in the Olympics?)
Went into my performance thinking this was just another competition, but my jumps were not my jumps at all, so I'm frustrated.
(But your performance was lively as usual?)
I tried to perform freely and I think that was good.
(Mirai Nagasu performed well before you)
Hadn't watched her performance but I knew that she performed well hearing the loud applause, so I thought, "I'm going to do my best too." I got nervous after I made mistake in my first jump and that made me execute all the other jumps off-timing. I find that I couldn't nail the jumps which earns the biggest points (e.g. 3F-3T and 2A combination) most frustrating.
(But you gained experience)
I still have time until the individual event, so I'll do my best preparing myself not to repeat this kind of mistake.
