[2017] GPF - Men SP & FS

I wonder what impact today's results will have going into PC, if any.

With this win, Nathan hasn't lost a single competition this season. But we also know that this GPF win has an asterisk attached to it and it was an extremely narrow win.  Which is also why I feel that the US federation seem more excited than Nathan for this win. Not sure how this will pan out.

I would say both Nathan and Shoma have the greatest momentum going into Olympics, but their scores were much higher in the early half of the season. Does this mean that they peaked early, or was the over-scoring just too over the top?

This February will get interesting :slinkaway:

shoma seems like he peaked early, and first time for such calls.

Nate, not sure, possibly peaked early, cause boot problems now.

As for momentum....well those were not programs I want judges to remember me for.

I don’t think this result will affect Nathan and Shoma much. I wonder how this will affect Russian men and US men (except Nathan) that will compete for an Olympic berth, though.

Shoma could've won his first international title today. Sigh.

His first GPF you mean. He's won plenty of international titles.

....COR unclean seimei was better. The urge for alt gpf is strong for the mens.

You know, I haven't seen a program this season that on a good day would beat Seimei...maybe Adam's FS? Though it doesn't have as much spark I think... (Thankfully, actually enough sparkles)

Turandot doesn't pull me in, even with cantilever which I assume should be the pulling point, Nate's Nemesis, if we're dragging the SPs into the mix, maaaaybe, with a big big question mark, same with Mao's last dancer,  Boyangman should go for another choreographer...Kolyada, maybe, he kind of has Zigeunerweiser charm for me? Idk how to explain that...(plus, he's adorable bronze medalist, kind of makes me reminisce about the one at Nice...). I'm trying not to go get myself attached to uncle Serg skating -94 means he'll soon retire? *we're  not going to let Jakie live that down, right?*

Actually, the program that excited me the most this season when you cut Yuzuru out *knocks all wood in the world it's not anymore an option* was Wakaba's Bond, and it IS surprising considering I really don't get attached to ladies, unless they use music I like (I'm that shallow...). Drn, even Marin's Turandot is better than the Men's versions (S/H still own Best Turandot Performance award for this season, tho)

I was thinking more of ISU championships and GPF for international titles. But I guess I have a different terminology lol.

Seimei cursed it. You could feel Yuzu everywhere in this mess.

repeat the refrain that the only thing that matters is February.

And Yuzu recovering well and coming back strong. Add that too. In case the skating Gods are listening.

were we watching the same competition? 88 PCs for Nathan? positive GOE on his last 3Axel? at least they called some UR, unlike yesterday. But it's not like they didn't try to prop him up, it just wasn't enough content there ...

Shoma's PCS were all right though.

compared to other comps, they were better for usual

More like Shiki got out of control and there was no Seimei to reign them back in...

What a mess competition. The SP was ok, but the LP, only Voronov gave his best. All top 3 looked so nervous to me. And look at the protocol, had they call all the UR, Mika could've won !!!!. Idk what happen with Nathan, but all his quads in this comp looked UR. Shoma oh Shoma, why only 1 combo ??? If he did 2T after 3S, he could won, the landing was good enough.

Tbh with this kind of score, both Nathan and Shoma didn't gain much momentum. People said GPF champ often got the greatest momentum going into Olympic, but only if they skate well and get high score. Yuzuru gain alot with his GPF13 gold not because he beat Chan, but also both of his performance were great and it showed his scoring potential. US media would hype Nathan like there's no tomorrow, but it also add alot of pressure to him, as we saw it clearly since SA. I hope after this GPF, people could appreciate Yuzuru more. To think about it, his metal strength is no joke when he has to compete under biggest pressure and expectations in years.

Ok, the last one,  Yuzuru really need to comeback soon and save us :hopelessness:. Seriously, thing goes wrong without him (<--this is Yulia's words, not mine)

Yes x100000000. Only he can save the world now, plus the skating gods have screwed up enough this season.

Yeah, the bad thing is 3A-split is Yuzu's warm up, not competition routine...too bad Shoma didn't jot that down xD

*Alas, the 0.something curse is passed down-first, Yuzu vs Javi CoR, then Saitama'14, now this...*
