February 10, 20224 yr He must be so frustrated for ALMOST landing a ratified 4A, and with the freakin hole messing up his short program... Well, I'm not surprised he's gutted, I guess he was trying to contain himself on TV then, since he looked relatively ok in the green room): But he should be proud of himself, he gave it his all and it did deliver - his performance was beautiful and his attempt was much improved from the one at the Nationals.

I feel like Yuzu was also really scared to get infected, which is no wonder considering his asthma and the fact that you can't compete if you test positive. This entire Olympics is just a shit show.

Indeed only legends such as Kohei can understand Yuzu not someone like Meagan who wasn't a memorable artistic performer herself. this woman has a very very very long string of absolutely awful takes over the years, why in the year 2022 would ppl still put any weight on what she says is beyond me

If only Chen and his messy choreography and jump GOES were judged fairly for the last 4 years I feel Yuzu wouldn't have thought 4a was necessary in order to win. I kind of think the last 4 years and it's judging 🤡 clown show drove Yuzu to an irrational mindset. There was no way he could land 4A when he hasn't consistently landed them in practice. Yuzu took about 3 seasons to perfect the 4S. That's how much it usually takes to consider it safe enough to jump it in olympics. But Yuzu rushed the 4A at olympics and was it worth going for? 3rd OGM was a near 100 year old historical record worth going for, whereas 4A jump could have been done in later seasons. This wasn't his last chance to do it, but I feel maybe he wasn't thinking rationally about prioritizing clean programs at Olympics. If he skated clean without 4A, he would have medaled. I think it's also about what he ultimately wanted. I haven't been watching much the last quad so I can't comment on whether a 3rd OGM (without 4A) was a realistic goal, but it seems that he thought otherwise (probably because of the scores, like you said), and so he chose to go for the 4A instead. I can't tell if he considered medalling, but imo 2x OGM sounds better than 3x Olympic medallist (yes, it may be silly because 2 golds + 1 silver/bronze is objectively better than 2 golds, but there are very few 2x OGM and quite a few multiple medallists in male FS). So who knows, maybe he thought the same way.
February 10, 20224 yr "It wasn't what I was aiming for at all in terms of winning or losing, and honestly I thought a bit that I didn't leave anything (memorable) behind. But if everyone can think that, regardless of winning or losing, Yuzuru Hanyu's skating was good, if there was even a slight moment of that, then today's skate had a meaning, I think." Of course it was good! It was amazing! Touching lives! Touching hearts! Always!

So who knows, maybe he thought the same way. He said he needed 4A in order to win, but I disagree. Meghan Duhamel said the same on TSL and while I know that show is a clown show, I do agree with her that there were other ways he could have challenged Nathan. He could have perfected 4Lo, 4Lz. We know he could land those. And bring 4T-3A SEQ Or add 3A-3Lo. Or add 4Lz to the short and focus on new exciting programs and choreo. But I feel Yuzu was driven to this situation. He said before if he goes to Beijing it will be to win, and I do feel he did challenge 4A because he thought in his mind it was the only way he could beat Chen. But a clean perfect Yuzu with 4Lz and 4Lo would have beaten Chen. The choreo and jump and spin and skating skill GOE on a clean Yuzu on olympic ice would have been impossible not to give full PCS and GOE. To the very naked eye to figure skating newbies Nathan's rocketman last choreo sequence was a joke on Olympic ice. It had no poise at all. I know he was going for a comical choreo but it had no Olympic champion class at all. Also I think Yuzu was robbed of a Bronze and that Yuma was robbed of a Gold. The Jump GOES were obviously overscored on Shoma and Nathan.. I love Yuzu so much but I do feel that at the end, the 3rd OGM consecutive title was a 100 year century worth title to seriously go for with better tactics and wiser and safer methods. I'm guessing why Yuzu broke off with Brian is probably Brian would have tried to persuade Yuzu to leave out 4A just for the Olympics and attempt it at other smaller games.
