Now I'm worried he might not continue to challenge the 4A dream and retire.

you know him, he's not like that

all it means is that this was the best he could do this time, and he'll train more and get it later

Aa a fan I wanna see the 4A obviously, it has been a dream of his since forever xd but I hope that no matter what decision he makes, he knows we are all very proud for what he has done for figure skating! :thanks:

SO WHAT IS THE TRUTH? is this 2nd statement referring to what he did today or implies the future?!

If he's WD from world championship, the injury must be a bit serious... We will see..

Is the latter one a translation? Japanese language doesn't really have a future tense so it's difficult to translate statements like these

I don't think so, it's really common for people to WD from the World Championship during an Olys year even if they aren't injured. Plus there's a pandemic going on, and the WC is being held in a country that is significantly less stringent about it's covid measures as China

Hm... not liking the sound of his response...

TBH, I always silently lobby for him to just retire and get out of the judging clownery. It is also my wish that he will just hold an ice show on the same day and time as a competition so that we can compare the audience turn out (but he won't cos he's nice). However, it's been 2 years since I watched him compete live and I really want to attend another of his competition. Now is still hard for me to fly with COVID still around. Sigh, dilemma dilemma.

Will wait and support his decision when he has the chance to sort out his thought.

Wait, did he say he's withdrawing?

I think he could have podiumed if he replaced the 4A with the 4Lo, but the goal really seems to be going down in history as the human that lands the 4A.  More power to him for striving towards that goal.  Not gonna lie, I'd be happy seeing him skate cleanly with easier layouts and taking medals, but he's got nothing left to prove.  To be at the top/near the top for 3 Olympics is amazing in its own right.

Oh right he could do that. With shoma and yuma alone, japan could easily secure 3 spots for next world. Yuzu could rest that ankle and train his 4A more ..

I haven't seen it, I'm just saying if he did withdraw it's not necessarily a sign of anything

I feel like it would be less a sign of recognition if they invited him to the gala than it would be a sign of some kind of deep seated grudge if they didn't. There's no way they don't.

I suppose you're right. Kinda forgot that they usually invite the top 5 and not just the top 3.

Spoiler

Can he just do as Nathan did in 2018 and refuse...?
