Since I was having a bit of a break I am late but happy holidays everyone!! I hope you had and are having a fab time!

And am so pleased everyone loved the banner, @gladi worked like a woman possessed on it but honestly, am not quite sure how she pulled that off; so much work. Fingers crossed for the new year bringing Zu some good, good things! :tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:

Sorry :offtopic: but, I thought this was interesting.

Reddit explains about the difficulty of translating the Japanese concept "kuyashii" with Shinji Kagawa's tweet

https://twitter.com/S_Kagawa0317/status/946011196796182528

https://np.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/7mf5k9/kagawa_makes_a_child_cryby_nutmegging_him/drtj138/

They explain it's like.... frustrating/regretful/bitter/painful/hurt/Fxxxxxxxxxck!!!!!

It's always difficult to explain Yuzuru's "kuyashi"ness :P

Ohh what a great explanation on the reddit post. Now if only we can just condense that into a workable definition...but it’s an emotion so examples of where you feel it are much more effective explanations (the most vivid one that always comes to mind: Mao describing her feelings immediately after silver at Vancouver ;;;;; )

re: Yamada’s message to Tsuzuki - I took it to mean he shouldn’t reject her request to come to Sendai since there’s no reference to him teaching Yuzu yet (granted could be subtext/implied) so the alt translation surprised me a bit. I guess it could also mean ‘don’t ruin his unique expressiveness/special qualities’ if you take the other reading.

I agree with the expectations part but i am not sure about him being forced to comply with the second part. The carefully crafted image thing seems more idol-like to me, and he has said many times he's not an idol but an athlete.

He himself has said that because he doesn't feel like he's complying with Japaneseness because of his open show of emotions on ice, want for win, frustration, etc.(he's probably listened to all the Japanese stereotypes million times by now), he tries to make up for them by being polite, bowing a lot, (learning how to say thank you in 1348290 languages) etc.And since people like to make up stories based on the first sight, and kiritoru segments focused on him being the god-like don't help, the image of ideal idol-like guy has been created.

Like, do you remember that time at the K&C at Helsinki after his FS? The last thing we heard him say to Brian and Tracy before the focus switched was, "But I have to get more ten points, right?" To this day, I'm still not sure if he meant he could still get another 10 points beyond the scores he got that day (like does he seriously think he could do that much better than he did to think that he fell short of perfection by 10 whole points?), or if he meant that he thought he would've gotten 10 points higher than what he did. Lol. I'm leaning more towards the former but the latter doesn't seem impossible either, given the circumstances behind that score.

I actually always thought he remids himself he needs 10 points more for the overall score WR, since Tracy's lips seems to mouth 'world record' (or 'free score' -I'm not so sure anymore) few seconds earlier. It would actually seem logical, since 10 points do not mean breaking the SP WR(had he been given them there), but it WOULD push the score over 330, which was his highest total, breaking for which I'm sure he's constantly aiming (or actually, for the perfection that would break it as a fringe benefit, no sweat:facepalm:).

I'm feeling generous so I'll believe his vocab is probably quite decent by now. But being able to use them at the drop of a hat requires a person to be speaking the newer language beyond their training environment and watching things that are beyond what's shown on Japanese TV.

Speaking of k&c, there are some things he's said during that I have to decipher still to really get. And there are some which I still don't quite get. Like, do you remember that time at the K&C at Helsinki after his FS? The last thing we heard him say to Brian and Tracy before the focus switched was, "But I have to get more ten points, right?" im pretty sure he means that he wants to get more 10s on his program components

dammit i really wanted my first post here to happen when either yuzu or his competitors get a really fishy score and i wouldve gone and just posted :salty: and it wouldve been iconic but oh well i hope this means that there will be no fishy scores for the rest of the season

Wow, so many interpretations of one moment!

Actually, I've always thought he meant he needed 10 more points to break his own total score record, being the perfectionist he is. I never thought he was talking about the SP lead Javi had.

I always thought this too. I don't think he cares what other people got and I don't think he knows how many 10s he got on the scoresheet yet haha  (although certainly he can guess but idk how much math he was doing while in the moment...)

I just assumed he saw not 100 in PCS. :P

I've always thought that at best he might have photographic memory and/or he just has a really good memory. In fact, I remember reading praises that he remembers all the names of the press people he meets (remember at FaOI where Ogi-mama was amased that Yuzu remembered the tie he wore 2-3 years ago when they met?). But now I think his habit of writing in his diary/research notes everyday and then reviewing it at night might have cultivated that particular talent. Nanami Abe-sensei used to bring notebooks at the K&C and she and Yuzu seemed to be discussing the performance he just gave - could that notebook be one of his research notes as well? I don't follow Abe-sensei's previous K&C appearances but as far as I can recall, I don't remember her doing that prior to Yuzu.

"Please don't ruin him." <-- I don't get this. Like, why would she say that? Is she asking for him to not break the kid with overly Spartan methods?

I think this has something in connection to the tweet prior to that. Yamada-sensei tried to make Yuzu "conform and concentrate on the basics instead of doing things his own way, but he wouldn't listen." I think in the end, she realised that him not conforming to what is the usual or the standard in Japanaese skating is something unique and she wants Tsuzuki-sensei to cultivate that uniqueness instead of 'ruining' him by making him conform to the system instead. I do believe he did a wonderful job. He was strict and instilled discipline in Yuzu but also gave him independence to grow.

That was my first thought hearing him saying “ but ..but I need 10 more points right ?” Roughly it needs 10 more points to break his old record ,that was a quick comment from him . I don’t think he ever complains that judges should give him more points , his thoughts only pertain to his own things , on him , not on others

For me I didn't think he would be thinking of the world record at that moment, but more of if he has enough points to win.

But will need to rewatch it with a new set of ideas of what he might've meant.

It's interesting that we have different interpretations of his statement lol.

(Of course, I could just be projecting what my first thoughts were at that moment ^^;)
