What do the red signs from April 4th to May 6th say? Would the whole rink have been closed all that time, or only to general public? There don't seem to be any news relating to the general state of emergency announced yesterday. I suppose that, if anything were to hit the rink, it would be announced by the Miyagi governor today or tomorrow?

I believe the rink is only closed to the public right now.  Hopefully, super strict lockdown rules won't hit Sendai.  And, of course, I personally think that the zamboni driver at that rink is an "essential worker" if he's resurfacing the ice for Yuzu.

In fact, after having watched again the interview, this time with English subtitles, I understood it as implying he had already stopped on-ice training, maybe yesterday after the announcement of the national state of emergency.

I understand the main problem in Japan, now that informal gatherings have ceased, is still employers forcing non-essential workers who could work online, to attend offices? Plus the use of physical seals. Maybe this crisis will prompt the development/implementation of some sort of electronic seal?

The translation I read didn't seem to imply anything about whether he is on the ice or not.  I felt it was really a message of support for the all front line workers and for people having to observe difficult restrictions.

Yuzu speaking to the nation!  I don't think they could have come up with a better person to deliver the message, since by all that from all I've been able to gather over the years Yuzu is one of the most trusted public figures in Japan.  His brief reference to 3/11 is used to underline the fact that he, like they, has gone through very tough times before and basically it implies that 'we've gone through it before and we can do it again'.

Work culture in Japan can be summed up in one word: presenteeism. Asking them to accommodate working from home is probably akin to asking a fish to live in the air instead of the water.
