  1. I wouldn't mind if Yuzu went to France. I haven't been to France and would love to Visit.
  2. Weird?! It's amazing!! Ok but you can really see how much his choreography means to him. He always finds a way to integrate it into everything ..lol.
  3. Lol I just realized that the only time Mirai has ever made the Worlds/Olympic team outright was during Olympic years (2010-2014-2018). Talk about delivering under pressure, which is kind of the opposite of what she's known for. Okay she didn't make the team in 2014, but she was #3 and there were 3 spots so for the sake of this argument, she placed high enough to grab a spot (it was just an unfortunate situation that she didn't. If the ranking was Gracie-Ashley-Mirai, she would've made it). On the other hand, Ashley Wagner has finished one placement below the number of entries in every single Olympic year.
  4. Hello, help me with my sit spin please Whenever I get in the sit position I always end up rounding my back instead of arching it, and I feel like I do that shoot the ducks/pistol squads on land, too. I just don't have the muscle to keep a "comfortable sitting pose" in that position and honestly it feels downright impossible. I've been practicing that pistol squad pose for many weeks, but it's very very hard and even still I can't do it while keeping my back arched. When doing exercises I actually go way too low so it's "easier" to be in that position but for the sit spin you shouldn't go too low, the thigh should be parallel, which is near impossible to do on land/in a shoot the duck. Or is it? You can see it here... my back is very rounded, which is not correct for a sit spin. (I know I also need to straighten my leg.) Arched back:
  5. So the original developer of the minimized quote app says he can't really reproduce it so doesn't know how to solve it, and since it's a plugin the board forum doesn't know, either. So i'm just gonna uninstall the plugin, sorry if your quotes are long but at least they won't block anymore
  6. that would be ah-mazing, and borser can certainly politick for her more than JSF is doing
  7. This is really interesting! Would definitely be interested in drawing up a game plan/doc and working on this! I have a feeling that the ISU won't listen though, but it could be powerful enough..btw Buzzfeed has this ~*groundbreaking*~ (not really) article about figure skating biases and it didn't really pick up the way they probably wanted: https://www.buzzfeed.com/johntemplon/the-edge?utm_term=.kuaZ9Rglw#.xvKJbENRW But if we do end up getting good data and results, and we tweet it at people like Max, maybe it'll help with traction
  8. I can imagine, it's easy to slip you have zero grip on the ice lol I think you can hear a skid very clearly. It sounds like...well, a skid. I think I don't see anyone skidding for an axel, but I do for 2As.
  9. Yeah, it's more apparent in slow-mo He has a bit of a skid: And this is the point right before he completely leaves the ice, as far as the gif has frames: I guess a *perfect* axel would have no skid and would just leave the ice on a straight line with only a toepick mark at the end, rather than a full blade mark.
  10. Yuzu absolutely takes off from a toepick too, in fact if you look at the gif he actually prerotates on his toepick quite a lot before lifting into the air. He just doesn't "skid" so I guess the terms edge takeoff and skid takeoff are a bit misleading. He lifts onto his toepick from a clean edge rather than a skid is more accurate I guess... I don't think you can do an axel or actually any jump without "taking off" from your toepick? But maybe we're talking about different things here..
  11. Ok here's a video of Javi and Pchiddy's axels in suuuper slow mo: Seems like they turn 90 degrees on their blade before jumping. I think I only see people doing this with 3As...probably because 3As are harder? I think there's a girl in my rink who does this on a 2A...you can hear a loud scraping noise before the jump. Anyway, I think we definitely shouldn't do this with waltz jumps though.
  12. I think most people take off from edges in a waltz jump, no? TBF I don't really know what a skid-axel is technique-wise...but I've only seen it with people doing a 2A and above. But I think most ladies don't do a skid-2A (personally I think skid-axels are uglier)
  13. I know, it feels like learning to spin all over again, LOL. But I would love to do it if for no other reason than spinning is fun...and sometimes you have no ice...
  14. Off ice spinners sound like fun! Your scratch spin on the spinner looks really good, like a proper scratch spin haha. I haven't really tried the edea spinner much but I don't know how to use it, seems like learning how to spin all over again lool. Also, my apartment is not great for doing one foot spins, because if I reach out with my foot I will kick something.
  15. Oh, interesting! Here's a gif: You mean when he bends and then snaps up (sorta)?
  16. I had a lesson today and I wanted to show my coach my one foot spin, but I couldn't get into any spin at all. I think I wasted about half the time trying to do it before giving up and moving onto something else and just declaring that it was not the right time to do a spin lol And then right after my lesson I was able to do good spins and in fact I think my spins feel really different now, like the edge going into it feels strong and powerful, and I feel a lot of snap on the 3turn. I think one issue was that I was trying to do it slowly in a small confined space during my lesson like I usually do, but afterwards I could skate faster and have more space to do it. Also I think I am just not a tough competitor, and everything I do is much worse when someone is watching or recording, so good thing that door has long closed at my age (I still need to figure out a way to get my leg to turn out while entering the spin, though. I mean I know I need to turn it out...and I know how to turn out my foot...I just can't do it ) So we did work on my waltz jump instead, and yesterday I felt like I got maybe 3-4 waltz jumps that felt good. Today I think they have gotten more consistent, and I probably did like 20-30 good waltz jumps, and although they're probably not any bigger, they are basically effortless now. I'm sure there's still stuff to fix, but at least I get the basic timing and feeling of the jump. I don't go into it with very much speed so there's definitely improvement to be made there. My coach had to tell me to count to force myself to jump on time instead of waiting for a long, long time on the forward edge until I feel comfortable, lol. And still, I'd be like "onetwothree foouuuuuurrrr fiveeeeeeeeeeeeeee *jump*" I think after another week of doing waltz jumps I'll move on to other jumps, probably starting with the salchow. But I also want to dedicate some time to doing basic skating stuff like edges, turns, etc.
  17. Well that second one looks even less like him
  18. So much speed! And height! And distance!!
  19. This is a topic that inevitably comes up because figure skating is a sport that needs to balance finesse and aerodynamics with strength and power. Based on some users' suggestions, I'm gonna start a separate thread to talk about it because not everyone wants to read it and so it doesn't derail other threads. Here are a couple of basic links I found about sports nutrition from USFSA: http://www.usfsa.org/content/2008 Elite Coaches Seminar-Nutrition.pdf https://www.usfigureskating.org/content/2009NutritionHandout-III-PreDuringPost 09Jan13.pdf http://iceskatingresources.org/NutritionFigureSkating.html And an article I found of nutritional issues that top skaters have faced: http://www.businessinsider.com/figure-skaters-diets-nutrition-problem-2018-2 On that note, please refrain from making overly speculative comments about skaters' bodies or eating disorders/habits unless it's public information, and don't make comments about who should lose or gain weight! Comments like these can have lasting negative effects.
  20. I agree that it doesn't look like him, especially the hair. The face -- eh -- but still, something's off, his cheekbones especially.
  21. What browser? Strange, I don't see it can you link a post where you def see it?
