  1. Really? Can you point to where NBC, CBC, Icenetwork etc. have called Yuzu the GOAT? Scott Hamilton has steadfastly maintained that he is not. Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir never make that statement either as far as I can remember? Only Tanith Belbin has said "Why not?" when she was asked the question but did she actually acknowledge it afterwards? The article was good, but it wasn't so positively gushing from the way I read it, and it focused more on his fans than him. (The article even states that the story is about obsession -- namely, Yuzu's fans obsession with him -- and not really about his skating. The title of the online version of the article was positive (calling him "Michael Jackson on ice") but in print they toned it down ("Icon Stumbles On the Road To Glory"), and they focused on a few really weird quotes and bios of random fans (including a girl who moved to Japan because she was a Yuzu fan, and it was taken out of the print article perhaps because the quotes were taken out of context or just because it sounded very creepy/weird). I don't know about you, but I don't think we should have such low standards in reporting that anytime a newspaper in the US reports on a non-American that it's considered amazing. Especially when said non-American is considered by many many in the sport to be the "Greatest of All Time." Japanese media is much better at comprehensive reporting than the US, and consequently Japanese skating audiences know/appreciate far more than their own skaters. If you watch Japanese skating news, they like to do graphical analyses all the time and they frequently highlight things like which skater has which quad (and Nathan/Boyang/non-Japanese skaters consistently feature in them). They talk about international skaters all the time. And if you watch Japanese ice shows, they invite American/Western skaters like Jason, Carolina, Javi, Nathan, Ashley, all the time. In contrast, US Stars on Ice almost never invites Asian skaters (has it ever? I don't watch it religiously) nor have Canadian SOI shows. I've definitely noticed that recreational skaters in the US, when they talk about watching skating, they only talk about American skaters, even in fields where American skaters aren't very strong (i.e. ladies). One possible reason is that the US almost never reports on any skater outside of the US unless they're forced to (i.e. when they're broadcasting the Olympics and the winners are clearly not American), which is not the viewers' faults but isn't it sad that they won't be able to appreciate the beauty of a wide variety of athletes just because they're not American? And this is your opinion -- but I think you should tone it down a little, because other people may have differing opinions that are just as valid.
  2. also i think if it has 5 crests then that's already really formal ... although yuzu has worn a black kimono for the Sendai press photo and, well, he's not married, so i'm guessing it's okay to wear a black kimono, and also that he has one (although the kamon for that one was different so maybe he borrowed it?)
  3. afaik it doesn't have to be black, and black kimono are only for married people...(i'm not sure on this for guys, but it's true for women)
  4. you can always reupload to imgur if you're desperate enough
  5. I think image links with underscores does not embed >_> I will file a bug lol
  6. afaik you can't have 4 kamon...only 1, 3, or 5...
  7. Can you return your boots? Because yeah, maybe they are too big and premounted boots are annoying like that, you can't really adjust the blades, but they *should* be centered as they're professionally done by the boot manufacturer...BUT if they are too big for you, that could lead to the lack of centering. If you can't return them maybe you can try selling them?
  8. I think it's super fitted and one of his best suits!!!
  9. I think in theory, this sounds great. And makes sense. Flow, height, and effortlessness should be the most important parts of a jump, and if say, a tano makes your jump less effortless, then that should not give more GOE than a tano-less jump with more effortlessness. At least it gives fans more fodder when a jump that's obviously not effortless starts getting +4 or +5
  10. Another software upgrade (should be fast; shouldn't change the site in any noticeable way) - I'll do it Tuesday, April 24 at 12pm PST
  11. I....am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that two guys being touchy (i.e. that emoji) doesn't imply they must be gay........especially when they're not........
  12. I think Phil has conflicting feelings about Yuzu. I'd say he probably does think the world of Yuzu but likes to play devil's advocate, lol.
  13. You can "point your toe" in skating. It feels like you're pointing your toe but the effect is more...turning out your foot...with your toe facing slightly more away from you. For example, Sasha, who is very famous for always pointing her toes, even when she jumps: And Yuna is famous for *not* pointing her toes, but I love Yuna the most and completely didn't mind, so it's a matter of personal taste. better example that won't embed As for Yuzu, well, I think it's nitpicky because he (1) doesn't do spirals, and (2) men don't usually point their toes anyway. Not that i've even really noticed.
  14. Ok let's do a test Try adding Parade videos here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12M962yjdml2hHddf3WQJVcX9bBm6og6zStIcGKpZQ8U/edit
  15. What do you guys think of a google doc that everyone can edit? That way people can post links to full-length videos after an event and it wouldn't have to always go through a mod to edit the OP or something.
  16. It's a lot of work but @kaeryth does an amazing job, thank you BTW, if you have an idea for such a table that you'd like, you can definitely suggest it. someone might pick it up ^^ also, that subforum is free for anyone to create a thread, not just mods, so if you don't see any that do what you are thinking, you can always start something ^_^
  17. Unfortunately, we can't change the name of "Our Picks" on the link...it's just the default that came with the software. Although we did rename it to "Current Events" in the sidebar on the front page of the site where we could:
  18. I believe @kaeryth timestamped already xD
  19. Do you usually put a scarf over your nose and mouth? Lol idk but a mask is easier and doesn't fall off randomly
  20. Dunno about Yuzu, but sometimes those masks help with cold air, too, which irritates your lungs. And Toronto can be pretty cold for parts of the year.
  21. Indeed! Yuzu could never be consistent, because if he were, what he's doing would be too easy for him, and that would never happen because he never stops challenging himself....
