Grand Prix assignments and how they work
yuzuangel replied to sublimeskating's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Yeah I don't think SkAm wants to invite him. They don't care about ticket sales, apparently... -
I wonder if anyone will ever land it again if he does.

I don't think it was permanently deleted. I think if you look at the archives you'll find all the old posts. They reinstated it after a while and split it up into seasons, lol.

Let's discuss other skaters and their chances at Worlds in the World Championships thread!!

Lovely!

Thanks Javi He didn't have to, being one of Yuzu's main competitors and definite OGM contender, but what a good friend, man.

Wow, can't imagining balancing undergrad with being an OGM-hopeful. If Nathan tries to do 1/2 school, 1/2 skating, I'm sure he'll be good but I can't see him as being World Champion/OGM contender until he takes time off of school to only focus on skating. But who knows, maybe he's truly special.

OT, but does anyone know when Yuzu's parade in Sendai will be?
-
It just feels like...what could we possibly do that would be worthy of such an achievement?!

Yeah, I agree, it's so frustrating. I looked at a video of me in one of my spins and even though I thought I did everything right I'm *still* dropping the right side. I guess I still have a while to go before I'm overcompensating so I should hike up my hip as high as it could physically go, LOL. And I'm not pulling my left shoulder back, or keeping my right hand in front of me, nearly half as much as I think I am (I feel like I'm literally playing twister). In the video I look like I'm not trying at all. And totally agree with you about the momentum -- everything you need to do, needs to be done at once, you can't say "I'm going to do this move but only do the arm motions, and then when I have that down I'll add in the leg motions" because it literally has to be done together and doesn't make sense broken apart. But there's a reason why you don't try to debug three things at once, you have no idea what's wrong, lol. /sigh/

Man, skating is hard. I feel like unless you did dance or some other sport where precision of movement is important in your youth, it's probably really hard to have the hyperawareness of where your body parts are at all times or to understand how your body parts work...synergistically...in a complex movement lol. Like for the spin entry, I could say that I *know* I'm dropping my right hip when I watch myself in a video, but why? It's not like I drop my right hip when I'm walking or just skating around. That would feel weird. But this doesn't feel weird. So I need to raise my right hip, but how do I do that? Or I know I need to turn out my foot but I don't get the feel of when to do it or how. Or how even to tell if your foot is turned out. Until you realize that it's not one or the other and doing one actually helps the other/they're all related. Like turning out your foot actually raises your hips and makes you feel more level. And you don't know how it feels to be dropping your right hip until you know how it feels to not be dropping it. I guess the main lesson is that a lot of these things are just different sides of the same coin...aka they all need to happen to work. Anyway this doesn't make any sense but....yeah skating is hard.

No, but that is nice to know, thanks, because I knew there had to be a secret to spinning that I haven't grasped, it can't be this hard...
-
Ugh spins are tough...when I spin, I don't think I have much of a feel for the balance. I'm either centered and balanced, or I'm not. I find it hard to balance myself if I'm not already centered. I asked my coach if he actively "keeps" his balance and he said he presses on the ball of his foot and that's where he spins. I realized I don't do anything like that and honestly I just hope I'm centered after the entry...so I'm trying to get a feel of how to "balance." It makes sense though, with so many different spin positions, you can't just always be doing it right without any ability to adjust yourself in the spin...

Reminds me of all the declarations of how "Unexpected!" the men's event was. Yes, the 2x world champion and reigning world and olympic champion, the reigning world silver medalist, and the 2x world champion of the last quad was a surprising podium...
-
Sigh...of course Yuzu should've won more senior B's this season, that's the only way for your OGM to not be seen as a fluke, obviously
-
Lol I didn't know Samantha Thavasa is a Japanese brand...and with that ad I still wouldn't have lol. He doesn't have to learn it at all, and I don't think there's evidence he's aiming to have every single quad.

Thank you I've ALWAYS wondered why Yuzu's 1/2 lo looped so good yet others looked so awkward. Other awkward 1/2 loops include Anna Pogorilaya's and Shoma's. I always thought it was something about their knees or their free leg being kind of turned in and looking like they're about to kick something..

Nice! 3 turns are so hard, I still don't know how to check them. Well, mostly the left outside one. I tried them for many hours last week but I still can't do it, and my coach has tried to correct several things including my shoulders and my hips after the turn but it still doesn't work ohwell

awww
-
Try this: And yes we know the media subforum needs to be organized...we will try to do it at the end of the season
-
wow. fierce!
-
yeah this is the part i don't get at all

Right, maybe some people were interested, saw that it was at 100million yen, noped the f out of there, and now they've lost a potential customer (and it's at 5million yen now lol)
