It's already 30mil yen??

Oh yes, you're right. Which is all fine and dandy right now for the US because they have someone who can land 6 quads in a free skate. But if they want someone with lower TES to win instead of someone from a small fed with higher TES that's fine too, they just need to utilize those new PCS and GOE scoring rules to give +5's and 10's to wonderful jumps landed in practice

This makes no sense. A skater could have great transitions and skating skills in practice if they don't do any jumps. But in competition they could take it all out in order to land the jumps...but they can get points for the transitions they did in practice? And competitions are competitions for a reason! Why not just have everyone do their run-throughs in private, record their best takes, and send it in for judging? Basically the fact that skaters can use TES to control their own scores doesn't sit well with the ISU. They want to introduce as much bias as they possibly can into the judging. Got it.

Been 21 minutes and it's at 183,000 yen his hair looks ridiculously soft, i'm in love

Thanks for the information, it's very helpful. My spins are still quite temperamental so I think small changes will likely throw me off for a while. I should probably try not to make too many changes...if I don't want to relearn everything
-
Argh, so does this basically mean don't change the size of your toe picks and rocker? Because you'll never adjust to them? So I *should* get the MK Gold Stars, then. Ah, well, I wanted to support Yuzu by buying his blades but I can settle for ones that look like this (the parabolic look is so cool btw)
-
same (and i have the royals) but i am on a 7' rocker right now and i don't know if i should go with MK Professionals Gold Star (looks like the JW revs but are not JW, obvs) which also have a 7' rocker or get Yuzu's Pattern 99s. Because I really want Yuzu's blades but I dont know if I want to have to get used to 8' rockers. Not even sure if that would be an issue, I'm just a little paranoid

i want

Which blades did you get? And what boots are you looking at?
-
Boot fit can be a huge issue but it can also be a scapegoat. IIRC Karen Chen went through 30+ boots in one season and couldn't find a good pair? She might have had a foot injury that made it hard to find fitting boots. But this season she seemed to have solved those issues yet her skating hasn't really improved. So maybe it wasn't the boots after all Nathan, I think, just jumps too many quads (maybe to the exclusion of other things) which makes your boots break down faster. And I'd give him the benefit of the doubt in that last season he probably just had really bad timing with boots, aka at Worlds his old boots were too soft but his new ones were too fresh.

aw hopefully it stays that way injuries are not fun for anyone heheh

Yeah don't get me started, I think 30% of the friends I've brought skating ended up with a serious injury or something. In a couple cases, serious pain + cast needed + 3 months of no walking I'm not really sure what happened, like I turn around for two seconds and BAM they're being carried off the ice by the rink staff.
-
Yay! Yuzu is inspiring people all over the world to skate Did you use rental boots? If so then it's probably a fit issue, sizing with skates is really important/difficult.

I want to study Japanese too (what better time than when we're inundated with Japanese media, LOL) buuuttt it's such a time commitment.. and when you stop, you lose everything you've learned

Rika. Because JSF clearly doesn't care about media darlingness, and Marin's been having training and motivation issues. Plus, yes she can emote but we see that PCS and performance scoring is almost purely political anyway , and your PCS isn't going to budge unless you land the jumps. Marin has never been consistent her entire career, although she did peak at the right time to win 2016 Junior Worlds gold and the 2017 silver medal. But with her small jumps, questionable technique, and lack of consistency, I don't see Marin being much of a challenger. Rika was underscored at nationals this year and still got on the podium whereas Marin has never been on a senior nationals podium. Very surprising given what she's achieved (on the junior circuit) and her hype. As for her X-factor/performance ability, I agree that she does emote to the rafters and beyond, which is a great gift. Her flow and glide on the ice is one of the best I've ever seen. Not many skaters are able to do that. But she's still missing something in her expression, maybe depth? I can't count how many times she does dramatic lunges or reaches out with her hands to faux-grab something in her programs lol. But that's something that can come with maturity and better choreography.
