Ooh, I didn't know butterflys help with turnout -- I need to practice that, thanks! Hm I mostly do splits*, and then I stretch my shoulders, pistol squats (but holding on to a table or a pole, because otherwise it's damn near impossible), back stretches against a pole or a wall where i just place my feet at the bottom of the pole and lean backwards. i found this picture, but lower: * So I think I've been trying to do the splits for more than a year, maybe two. I don't do it very consistently, which might be the problem, as I'd do it every day for a couple of months and then stop for a couple of months. I've found that the last inches are absolute killer. My left side was stretchier than my right side, and I would stretch both sides for 30 seconds a day, and my right side quickly became as flexible as my left but I was stuck on both at around 1-2 inch above the ground for the longest time (and still am). I also found that I could stretch for a week and maybe gain the splits (but only after long periods of stretching), but then I could not stretch for a weekend and it would sorta go back to how it originally was.

LOL I think that looks like a success! It's never crossed my mind that this is possible to try lmao

That's a good idea crossovers may look easy, but they are actually really hard so working with a coach to start is a very smart idea. As with everything in skating! Lucky us

Some people do lessons once a month or something slow and it's slow progress but at least it's progress. And then you can supplement that with group lessons, ofc. It's better than nothing

Hi, let's move on from the topic of haters (especially Korean haters lol) because there's only so much constructive discussion we can have about that topic and it's been discussed many times. Some users like to be on Planet Hanyu particularly so they don't need to see the hate, so let's not dwell on it here. And also remember not to generalize or attack other fans. Not all Nathan or XYZ skater fans act the same way, just like not all Fanyus act the same way. Be nice Thank you :)))

Wow, great explanation! Explains a lot Whole system is built in to be biased, though But how does that explain when the entire panel of judges seems to score big-federation skaters higher across the board? Does the fed buy favors for everyone? Are judges just scared of scoring big-fed skaters lower for fear of some retribution? Lol

Gif embedding is kind of weird lately. You can try pasting the link, or using the insert media button right above the "Submit Reply" button.

Hi all! It's officially the off season but that means it's time for some Spring Cleaning! Regarding the Translations & Media subforum, there's been a lot of feedback that it's hard to navigate. We've come up with a few organizational ideas and would love to hear feedback on them: 1. Split up the T&M subforum into the following subforums: Translations - tagged as [Video], [Article], [Book] etc. References - this is where all the compilations can go, and no comments are allowed unless otherwise stated by the OP. Media (fanart, MADs thread). 2. We can also get rid of the current multi-level tagging system because it's a bit confusing . 3. Archive some of the unfinished threads that seem abandoned, and merge ones that are similar. 4. Keep a few posts pinned to the main subforum, such as https://planethanyu.com/topic/307-translations-and-media-index-post/ and maybe a post about how the subforum works? The most feedback we got was that stuff was hard to find in there. And it's true, members put in so much work and time into creating the threads (thank you so much btw ) but due to organizational issues they're hard to find. So the main goal should be to make the forum more clear and easier to access, especially for new fans wanting to explore old content for the first time. What do you think? Thanks for your feedback

Ari Zakarian about the ISU crisis

Yes you're right, sorry for derailing tbh I just don't have much to add right now, other than to say things about Ice Dance that might offend some Ice Dance fans, but even the problems in Ice Dance are present in the singles disciplines as well. I don't know if it's bad judging that prevents the sport from being popular in the U.S. (although having a very complicated scoring system doesn't help), because they desperately try to promote the sport with none other than bad judging. Forgive me for generalizing but Americans in general just don't follow sports much other than their own stars, and which I don't get at all the ladies at my rink talk about Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen and no one else, which I don't get, because while they're exciting, surely they're not the most exciting skaters out there by any means right now? A possible reason could be the language barrier, and it's hard to get super emotionally invested in someone unless you can understand them, and it's not just skating that matters. If that's the case, I wonder if translated documentaries about international skaters into many different languages could help. They just have to have a "girl next door" vibe and they might get picked up. People like drama they can follow, and if there's no drama, then someone sweet and hardworking but relatable/funny could do it too. -

Because of her gold medal? Hm, no mention of Evgenia at all? Weird. -
