I've been literally thinking (heh..image training..jk) about sit spins for the last couple days just to understand them (LOL I just don't get the position at all) and I came up with: stick your butt up, lean forward but then look up/straight forward/not down (LOL) but not by moving your head, but by lifting your shoulders? Anyway, I tried it, and fell a lot, but it didn't hurt, because in the sit spin position you're already close to the ground. Must be what it's like to skate as a tiny kid! Still can't spin much in that position, but there's at least a moment or two where I feel like it looks good before the end (and usually when I drop my hips is when I fall or whatever). Looking at the videos I wanna literally push myself down into the position faster, lol, like @Xen said. Also, today my coach told me to do the sal off of a mohawk instead for practice, like @Xen also said before at one point, to stop using the 3-turn momentum to jump. It makes it harder though, but supposed to be practice for jumping off of your edge rather than spinning. I guess it teaches you to control your jump better.

Hi everyone! I made a post talking about our server here, if anyone is interested: In short: 1. We'll need to renew our server on June 10, 2018. 2. As far as I know we didn't have any speed issues for most of the year, except for a couple of moments of random outages that unfortunately aren't preventable? From reports we've gotten, the forum was performing decently even during the Olympics. Please let me know if you experienced otherwise, though. 3. Our current service cost $823.60/year and we want to renew for a 2 year plan ($1583.84). We think the current service may be a little overkill, so we want to go one step down and get the next fastest service ($1108.64). We have enough money in donations for the second fastest service, but not the first. 4. This will keep the site up and running for 2 years! Yay 5. We can always upgrade if it turns out to be too slow. Aaand that's basically it! If anyone has any suggestions, questions, or comments, please PM us and/or respond in the thread Thank you guys for making this place possible together!

Hi everyone! So it's almost been a year since Planet Hanyu was born (time passes so fast... ). At the beginning, we went with a year of the best hosting plan on the current server we're using, and it cost $823.60 for the first year, which was paid for by donations (thank you ). We also paid $264 for a LiteSpeed license to make the site faster. (And then there were other fees like getting the forum license.) When we signed up for hosting, we got a 34% newcomer discount. Our server provider were nice and said we could keep the discount if we sign up for 2 more years. If we stay with our current plan, two years will cost $2399.76 USD -> $1583.84 after discount. If we go one step lower, two years will cost $1679.76 USD -> $1108.64 after discount. Currently we have just about enough money in donations for the second plan and not the first. AFAIK we didn't have many issues with the speed of the site, even during the Olympics, which is super awesome, which makes us think we might have gone overkill in paying for the fastest server. So, we're thinking of going with one step lower and doing without the LiteSpeed license. We can always upgrade and/or add the LiteSpeed back if we need it anytime. We will renew our server on June 10, 2018! Thank you all for making this place possible And please let us know if you had issues with the site being slow and/or think we should go with something different. We won't pay for the service just yet, just letting everyone know the plan!

I think it can be done but I'm super optimistic. But Nathan is a world champion now, which is far more than what any other American skater has done in years and years, so even if he were to up and retire or to take it easy, he'd still have made a huge impact on the sport already. Yale is obviously an elite school, and most people will have gone in having studied most of their lives and excelled at it. Some may even have been taking actual college classes already (and not "fake" college classes like APs). It's not hard to coast by if one decides to pursue a lighter major, but Nathan is premed, so most of his classes (and possibly his major) will be in STEM. To keep up as STEM major, he'll have to put in more hours for sure than he probably did in high school. Not to mention, Yale is a very prestige-oriented school, and Nathan is entering as a semi-celebrity. He'll be getting lots of attentions, bids from all the fraternities and secret societies, etc. As an 18-year-old, it's hard not to get enticed by all of that. Add in long distance coaching, and it's gonna be difficult. It's possible he'll try it for one year and decide to defer; most colleges will let you defer almost indefinitely after all. But if he decides to do both, I'm not very optimistic about him keeping his level of being Olympic and World champion contender. Not that he'd need to, to stay in the top 3 and make the US team every year, though.

All jumps are gonna be taxing on that ankle bc he lands on it, but really fast jumps with (probably) many opportunities for bad landings even moreso

Taking it over here... I guess it's possible because Canadian field isn't very deep, but it's still deeper than the Spanish field. Javi says he will compete at Europeans only, and that would help his country with spots (not that they really need them). But Patrick competing at SC would only take away spots from other Canadians. Even a weak Patrick will still place better than the 3rd best Canadian, so he'd still deserve to go, but maybe they'd want to use the spots for development, because GP rankings are a lot of points and also lead to qualification for the GPF and all. So I can't really see it happening. Patrick is free to go to 4CC though, but there's usually more competition there, and it's not always held in Canada so he can't rely on home field advantage. Not that he'd need it for most years, I guess.

Same Look, Pchiddy didn't stop Shoma from winning SC on his first try. So Yuzu has no excuses
-
I thought it was true too, but it's actually a joke Regardless, I still think Yuzu will never win Skate Canada hehehe, some things are just not meant to be. I don't believe as much in the 4CC curse, though.

Just kidding, this is a joke

Not yet Team Hey, Remember Us?

IM. TRYING. VERY. HARD. TO. LEAVE. THE. GROUND. LOL.

IIRC he just got his blades sharpened nearby and was testing them out?

Yeah you're right I definitely need to hit the position way earlier. But ugh I still can't do a back arch so it's like somewhat unfathomable to me how to do a sit spin lol. But looking at pictures it seems like other people have their butts slightly higher than their thighs and I somehow drop my butt (although it's probably hard to see but i can feel it?) I wonder if lifting my butt would help and if so, how the hell do you do that in the first place lmao. I did a lot of sit spins today and they're one of the few things where I'm not afraid to fall lmao, so I kind of feel like a little kid doing them (they fall all over the place!) hopefully that helps because kids improve so fast lol.
-
Oh that's so weird because I can do it lying down with no problem but I can't do it in a sitting position, LOL

Ooh, I didn't know butterflys help with turnout -- I need to practice that, thanks! Hm I mostly do splits*, and then I stretch my shoulders, pistol squats (but holding on to a table or a pole, because otherwise it's damn near impossible), back stretches against a pole or a wall where i just place my feet at the bottom of the pole and lean backwards. i found this picture, but lower: * So I think I've been trying to do the splits for more than a year, maybe two. I don't do it very consistently, which might be the problem, as I'd do it every day for a couple of months and then stop for a couple of months. I've found that the last inches are absolute killer. My left side was stretchier than my right side, and I would stretch both sides for 30 seconds a day, and my right side quickly became as flexible as my left but I was stuck on both at around 1-2 inch above the ground for the longest time (and still am). I also found that I could stretch for a week and maybe gain the splits (but only after long periods of stretching), but then I could not stretch for a weekend and it would sorta go back to how it originally was.

LOL I think that looks like a success! It's never crossed my mind that this is possible to try lmao

That's a good idea crossovers may look easy, but they are actually really hard so working with a coach to start is a very smart idea. As with everything in skating! Lucky us

Some people do lessons once a month or something slow and it's slow progress but at least it's progress. And then you can supplement that with group lessons, ofc. It's better than nothing

I CAN SEE IT NOW!
