  1. I might have accidentally created 2 random poohs in China...because I fail at reading instructions. T_T
  2. There is so much...WRONG with that UI. Why make judges do math? That might be a good way to get the GOE points wrong. Instead, why not just have the bullet points listed on the side, or on the bottom, and let the judges press the buttons of the bullet points that they think apply to this element? Then let the computer system take care of the addition/subtraction itself? o_O Granted, this could become problematic at certain GP events where the system likes to go down, but you should have a log of which bullets were applied no?
  3. I'm not sure why people said it didn't suit him....the way the music builds is perfect for him, especially the ending with his hydroblade and ina bauer. And the music would be perfect for Nessie. The outfit could be something similar to the POTO outfit. And it could work with a 4 min cut-wait, unless the boy was saving music for the 4 min cut. Hm, yes, it would sound like him, creepy little space kitty. Edit: now that I think about it, in the music thread we mentioned a LOT of music that have been used in Ice Dance, which would prove that certain music can be cut and work well with 4 minutes. Quite a number also got used by some very dramatic ice dance team (Anassina/Peizerat for example). So off the top of my head, the ones I can recall from A/P's dance programs, we've got Carmina Burana, Man in the Iron Mask, Moonlight Sonata (though I didn't like that one much), R&J suite from Prokofiev. There is also Spenta la Stella (Drobiazko/Vanagas), and Michael Jackson (Bourne/Kraatz), all of this done before Ice dance got less dramatic. So now we're going to do a planet field trip to Ice Rink sendai? Yes, yes?
  4. Okay, I thought the quiz was already made. Sorry, I'm totally behind on stuff.
  5. I haven't played it, but I heard that people were able to build binary computer systems in Minecraft. And a group of coworkers I know played and managed to get a pipe system working. o_O So I imagine it is possible for Yuzu to at least build something that can play One OK Rock.
  6. Yuzu? Hmm...mental theater time. Scene: Yuzu is introduced to the world of Minecraft by Javi. Javi: you know you could build an ice rink if you-wait, what are you doing? Yuzu: I'm trying to see if anyone has put up a guide into how to build a freezing/cooling system to keep the pond frozen. Javi: We might need to build an actual rink first, what will you do about the barriers? Yuzu: *points to corner of a screen* There Javi: o_O you already went ahead and did it without me? Why does this look like ice rink sendai? When did you do this?! Yuzu: yeah...Javi, help me search for a freezing plan in english? How do you spell this thing? Is that the best search term? 2 Hours later, a complete ice rink is built, with an auto cooling and freezing system, transforming one of the ponds in the game into an Ice Rink Sendai, which he affectionately named Irene. Javi: Coool, we can totally skate in here. *steps in* Wait, how did I just lose 2 lives? Yuzu: That's because you passed through the 4T barrier. Javi: 4T barrier? Yuzu: yes, you have to do a 4T in that place otherwise you will lose 2 lives. Javi: okay...oh nice, you managed to get posters of Shizuka up, this really does look like Ice Rink Sendai. Wait! Why did I lose 2 more lives? Yuzu: That area in order to pass safely, Jabi must do a 4Loop. Javi: ...Yuzu, are our avatars actually able to do these jumps? Yuzu: I don't know...I haven't tested that out yet... Javi: So I'm the testing guinea pig? Let me guess, there is also a 4S barrier, a 4Flip trap, a 4Lutz trip wire, and a 4A door? Yuzu: Jabi is soo good! How did you know? At this point, Javi gives up.
  7. So uh, have we updated the lists yet, due to the recent updates? I was worried about jinxing the men's, but currently not anymore. So far the guys are ones I have yet to jinx in any way yet.
  8. I'm getting flashbacks of 05-06, when the guy and gal who eventually won Oly didn't even show up at GPF. In the ladies' field, both the gold and silver medalists didn't go to GPF. Regardless, wishing all the injuries can fully heal within a month, everyone is happy and healthy by Jan, and all that pent up energy leads to a chain of wonderful programs at Olys!
  9. oh lords, I skate on a commercial rink and have had little kids run into and grab onto my leg for dear life when doing scratch spins. Little kids idea of stopping is just falling and sliding across the ice, which usually means wiping out other people. This past week, a group ofhockey boys decided to play at the start of a public session and dumped about 10 pucks across the rink. Their parents just watched and did nothing, the rink guard did not even notice. I spent the first minute speeding around the rink picking up pucks before the hockey boys could react, then dumped all their pucks behind the blade sharpening machine. Sometimes, kids.....
  10. Should we uhm,.do anything for him, like a banner or something? Doesn't he have any fanclubs willing to write a get well card or cheer banner for him?
  11. ah, we are finally at the point I get out of law school. Skinny jeans still a thing in east asia. Wonder if Yuzu legs can fit in skinny jeans.
  12. Well I might have to join you in Jurassic park exhibitions. You don't happen to be a T-Rex I hope?
  13. My 2 cents about Yuzu's skating. I think as fans, we really love his skating, but casual observers might not. And that unfortunately might just be due to the music choices. Portraying a character, a la Javi, might be easier for an audience to get-there's a ready made story that people can follow, and can serve as guidance to the skater. While skaters who are more "free-flowing" with their music choices and expression of skating, are less appreciated by casual observers- a la Yuzu's Hope and Legacy, and even Pchiddy's music choices this season, and in Ladies I think prime example would be Mai's Gabriel's Oboe. Over in the translations, there's a really good translation of Kenji's room, and in part 4, around 23 min, Yuzu says something that I think is telling, not just about his interpretive style. It is when he said that he's okay with the music forcing him to grow. Essentially, he will train himself to do better with the chosen music, not choose music to cover up weaknesses or emphasize his strengths. Letting himself be the vehicle for the music to be conveyed, and not letting the music be the vehicle for his style-it's actually a bit arrogant, but respectful towards the music. Artistically, Yuzu has a very light, airy style to his skating. It's delightful to watch when he is on, but I think stylistically it is the one that is far less forgiving of errors because it is a far more delicate style, and to achieve the ease and lightness it is extremely demanding technically. I think only when he skated error-free at worlds, was Hope and Legacy truly appreciated, but I would argue that Yuzu's actual style is the airy, breezy, light Hope and Legacy (even the dramatic seimei is delicate in places). If you combine this personal skating preferred style, with his goal to be a vehicle for the music itself, plus some of his music choices, it is obviously going to be harder for him to appeal to everyone for IN and PE. But Seimei is probably better than Hope and Legacy in that regard. Actually what is really funny about SS and TR is that I was talking about this with a rinkmate (probably infamous by now), and said rinkmate would rank Javi higher than Yuzu on SS, and have deeper edges than Yuzu. Seriously. He prefers the stability and solidity of Javi and Pchiddy over Yuzu. And actually thinks that Pchiddy and Javi are faster than Yuzu skating speed wise. I think the speed is similar enough, but actually from ACI, I had a much harder time keeping Yuzu in my phone's little recording frame, less so for Javi. But that's another issue- Yuzu is fast, so even when he fully extends out, due to speed, he might give people the impression that he's less steady, and might be more likely to mess up a bit (if the lv3 Stsq is anything), even if in reality its anything but that.
  14. Man, you guys are young! I feel so old.
  15. I honestly do not know how he manages all that pressure. My head hurts thinking about it. And there are speed skaters who can be flag bearers.
  16. @¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thank you for the translations. =) I'm watching ep 4 and the ending part (around min 23) is what I think I appreciate the most about Yuzu. He lets the music speak for itself, instead of asking for choreography to suit his strengths and weaknesses. This is why he's grown so much, and what makes his artistry stands out. Everything fits naturally, nothing is forced, he works himself so his skating becomes a suitable vehicle for the music-not the other way around that is more commonly seen in male skating. It is the harder route, and the path less chosen. It is also the one that appreciates and honors the music.
  17. I think the skaters will realize it before ISU, and whatever rules the ISU decides to create may end up being counterproductive. Limiting it to 3 quads in the free for example- well, what's to stop a guy from going 4A-3T, 4A, 4Lz? Nothing. And BV being what it is, that's what people will push for. But figure skating is a sport, and it should be recognized as such. There's also the factor that a lot of skaters may end up pushing for those quads anyways to prove that they are at the technical pinnacle too- there are probably very very few skaters who would consider themselves a complete skater, a true champion, if they won with a program of all triples against a program of all quads (provided it is all clean), especially if spins and footwork are relatively similar, and artistry is similar enough. The issue with quads, and almost any technique advancements, is that it's a pandora's box. Once it's open, you can't close it back. Skaters are athletes, they are competitive. The issue now is no longer what cannot be done, but how to do it "safely". The issue is how to improve training and help skaters and teams avoid long term injuries and damage. Then there's the entire GOE and scoring issue, PCS coefficients etc, that can all make it a bit more balanced so skaters won't feel the need to push just BV to get a more objective final score in order to stay competitive.
  18. Imagine the scenario would be something like Javier Raya updating his instagram with a run through of his long program. And 3 minutes in, we hear a dolphin like squeal followed by a slender black UA body that just popped what appears to be a loop jump. Said slender body proceeds to fling itself into the air, and lands a quad loop, fists pumping down in a "bam" motion to show that little quad loop just who is boss. Hmm, isn't male essential body fat something like 5-7%? So Yuzu can't go under that....then again he is a space kitty so what do we mere mortals know. And his Chinese pronunciation is pretty good here. Usually people have trouble with the 4 intonation system we have. And "jia you" is the Chinese equivalent of "ganbatte ne!" Not "come on"-more "good luck just do it!"
  19. He could try butterfly, that's a lot of waist and hip action, and he has plenty flexiblity and strength there. He has barely been back a week, cmon, give him some time.
  20. I could be wrong but I hardly recall a single guy putting together clean programs in 16/17 season among the quad jumping guys, especially if pops, step outs etc also count towards unclean. And so far, in the gp its uncle Sergei saving the men? And he just said consistency is on the podium each international competition? Well, that definately is not US men or ladies last season.
  21. You know you practice something too much when you sleep in that position. Today I woke up in scratch spin position with ankles painfully crossed.
  22. I grew up in a family where all the men could cook, so it shocks me when I meet guys who cannot. It is a basic survival skill! Which it seems some certain kitties try to get around by acting cute.
  23. Watching and doing are different things. If he ever...well, I hope the building and people come out in one piece. I found avideo of Yoshiki trying to peel a giant daikon, with the kanjani8 boys staring and.encouraging him in the background.
  24. If we are going to talk about kpop and costumes, may I suggest "Nobody" by the Wondergirls? And he can wear a sparkly.tux and.light it up like a true disco ball.
  25. The issue I have with the tango/latin equals maturity, is the idea of sexy/sensual equals mature. Really, very few senior ladies can pull off tangos, or sexy if the plethora of bad Carmens is any indication. And everyone has a different style that can be polished to maturity.
