Samarin is super tall so that probably makes it harder for him to control his axis. I notice a lot of skaters with a build like his have similar problems--jumps high, but often out of control.

He seems to be splatting less this season than last, and that's even if his first GP was IdF. I guess that means he is beginning to get better with the control. How, I don't know.

lol well someone had to break through one day. him looking more stable is why he's getting so much Rusfed support, I guess. they're desperate for a real competitor in men's, it's their weakest discipline. it'll be really annoying if/when he manages to skate his layout clean-ish. If he got 171 for two popped quads (which also prevented him from jumping a 3T combo because Zayak) imagine what he'll get if clean. The PCS will probably go up too, even though he doesn't make an attempt to like, actually have choreo or perform. Same deal with the short. He fell on the 4F and had an ugly landing on the 3A and still got 93. If he lands the 4F he'll break 100 if they keep scoring him like this.

... The SP LzT combo looked better than the FS one, even, none of this makes sense, none.

TSL apparently called it the most beautiful combo ever or some such nonsense, too? I don't give them views so this is second-hand.

They called it the most beautiful one of its type - 4Lz3T, not the most beautiful combo ever. I made a mental note to go back through and try to find others more deserving of that title. I can't really think of who else has actually done one besides Vincent, Boyang, Nathan, and Aliev. Kolyada too(?). And people can say what they will about Nathan's lack of transitions and the lack of height he gets in his jumps (the poor guy's like half a foot shorter than most of the other skaters lol), but I think they look better than Samarin's. And Boyang's and Kolyada's 4lz are stunning when they're good. I'm just watching one of Boyang's 4lz3T now, and while it's not perfect and didn't (and shouldn't have) received high GOE, neither should Samarin's.

I guess the ones before the change from -3/+3 scoring don't count for the 'highest ever GOE', and how could they?

Nate usually has better air position and his jumps aren't quite as muscled, that's why they look better. His landings, though still kind of stiff-kneed and without great posture, also don't look as heavy as Samarin's (though he doesn't jump as high so that makes landing lighter easier).

Boyang's combo is just as good as Samarin's in terms of size, has equivalent or better landing quality, and is equally lacking in transitions. But unlike Samarin, his lutz edge is deep, he doesn't pre-rotate, and imo his jump looks a bit more effortless.

He might become the only one who can challenge Trusova's scores. The battle of Sashas, backed by RusFed.

I noticed gala videos being copyright stricken on Youtube by NBC.  As far as I know, NBC doesn't broadcast any gala programs.  Am I wrong?

I don't see anything about gala here and it's not on my NBC Gold.

https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/10/02/figure-skating-season-broadcast-schedule/

NBC is not broadcasting any galas, they confirmed that with me via email prior to Skate America. That’s ridiculous that they’re copyright striking something they have no intention of airing. Yes, they technically have broadcast rights, but they aren’t going to use them, it doesn’t hurt them at all to allow galas on Youtube. The copyright enforcement has gotten so strict this season.

I’ve always been a fairly vocal advocate of subscribing to their service to financially support FS in the USA rather than using a VPN, but that sort of bad behavior, combined with the fact that VPN+Youtube is a superior product, makes me seriously consider just using the free stream next season. The NBC interface is so unwieldy and freezes so often. (Have you ever tried to go back and rewatch an element? What an exercise in frustration.) The only thing you miss out on with that is US domestic comps, and I don’t care about those at all.

Same here on all points.  Pretty sure I'm going to cancel after this year.  The only thing I wonder about is how to get the geoblocked videos to play on TV and if the ISU videos are going to look as good as the NBC ones.  My current computer has a lower quality picture than my TV so I can't tell just watching on the computer.

If anybody interested, ISU award circus

Choreographer:
Daniil GLEIKHENGAUZ
Lori NICHOL
Marie-France DUBREUIL
Shae-Lynn BOURNE
Tom DICKSON

Coach:
Brian ORSER
Eteri TUTBERIDZE
Marie-France DUBREUIL & Patrice LAUZON
Rafael ARUTYUNYAN
Tamara MOSKVINA

https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/isu-skating-awards-to-debut-at-2020-worlds.106260/page-6

That's actually quite interesting. My first thought is "coach award will go to Gadbois". But other awards (costume, newcomer and so on) will most likely go to singles skaters, so they might want to give one award to pairs field. Then I would say Moskvina in coach and Marie-France in choreographer. :animated-smileys-aliens-031:

But if Gadbois will stay as a coach award, then... probably Shae-Lynn? For good programs in both ladies and men?

I don't feel they would give an award to Lori for her work with chinese teams. Or maybe her sitting with them in K&C at so many comps will finally pay off.

Busy procrastinating.  Made a list of all the FS TES from the grand prix singles finalists.  The talk is about Trusova competing against the men but it looks like this would be a really interesting competition all the way down the line if it was a JPN open style event with the men and women competing together.

Chen 102.38 Skate America
Chen 102.1 IdF

Lol. Kostornaia without a quad scored higher than all men except Yuzu, Nathan and Boyang.
