My reservations come from the fact Nathan is applying to truly top-tier schools. I think it will be really hard for him to balance those course loads with a skating career. Up to him to try of course. Paul Wylie went to Harvard.

He can delay graduation, the schools will probably allow it. The real issue are the MCAT tests, not sure how he plans to train and study for that at the same time.

I don't believe Nathan has any intention right now of skating past this season. I think the plan is to go for broke now, win an OGM, cash in as much as possible, and then retire from skating. He and his team seem to me to have a "now or never" mindset--although obviously they would never be stupid enough to admit that. I believe Nathan sees skating as a means to an end. He's no Paul Wylie when it comes to skating.

ETA: To whoever complained about this post being speculative:  Yes, of course this is speculation on my part. Note the use of the phrases "I don't believe" and "I think" and "I believe." Most of what is posted on this forum is speculation about what Yuzu and the other skaters will or won't do. And it seems highly unlikely to me, an American, that any American skater would continue to skate past 2018 if he or she won an Olympic Gold Medal--especially someone who wants to pursue a medical career.

He could take a part time course load...most schools will allow you to take literally forever to graduate if you have a good reason. I have a friend who literally took every other year off of school for no real reason and she's graduating 4 years late but she's still graduating. And I have some friends who took off 2-3 years for work and that's fine too. They might not give you financial aid for all those years, but he doesn't need it...

He *could* delay matriculation as well, but I can see him doing that for 1-2 years and not for a whole 4+ years. But based on other factors, I highly doubt, given his current strategy, that he's aiming for a long-term career, but I could be wrong.

As we can see with Polina Edmunds, frosh year of college is literally the best time of your life. Having to balance that with skating will probably prove to be a challenge for all but the most motivated skaters...

Haha actually I completely agree

The thing is they let it slip and are backtracking now

There is no shame there if he really just wants one Oly, considering what injuries and surgeries he has had.

As for the loop, well Nate never favored edge jumps, so not shocked...

I agree...if Nathan's taking any other majors, I would think it's manageable, but he's going for pre-med.

Pre-med is tough and medical school will be many more years of tough training. I don't see how he would delay graduating when the path to become a doctor is already quite long. I feel that while Nathan likes to skate, his passion was never the same as the other skaters like Yuzu. It was never part of Nathan's plan to stay within the figure skating world. It's more of an adventure while he is young, but he'll move on to other life goals. We'll see what happens next year.

I feel Nathan is very serious about university, he talks about it quite often. Yuzu choose Waseda mainly because they have online course that he can do it while living aboard. But with pre med, its pretty tough if Nathan can do it while skating at the highest level at the same time. I even saw some people state a changing coach may happen when he get to Harvard.

Back to the topic, after GP series, I could say nothing is fixed. Health is the most important thing, everything is behind. I agree that Nathan won't bring 4lo again, maybe the same with Shoma's 4S. As for Yuzuru, its depend on his recovery, but I think he would only do 4T and 4S at National. Idk if he should do 4lz, its all up to him, and I support whatever he does. IMO I dont mind if he left out 4lz at Oly and bring it back at WC18 :'D

Couldn't quite figure out where to put this, so hope it's okay to post here.

The medals and bouquet for the upcoming GPF! Look at that shiny thing! And that bouquet is gorgeous! Makes me want to be on that podium myself and get awarded with these beauties lol.

やっぱり Japan, no one comes close when it comes to extraness organising FS competitions.

Lol. This just drives home the fact that the last of the medals that signify Hanyu's 4-year reign is basically a giant yellow plastic badge, or a giant casino chip. The stars they awarded at IdF this year were at least unique. Well, Uno, at least, will have a good chance of getting a medal of a quality that eclipses the one he got last year. Hanyu will have to live with his for a bit longer. Hopefully a shiny gold or two or three later in the next few months will help dampen the salt a bit. The sugary sweetness of a gold-plated Choco Pie, would be the most effective in covering it up, methinks.

BEST ELEMENTS SEASON 2017-2018

Includes both Men and Ladies, though I plan to add Pairs too.

Yuzuru's name popping up more than anyone else, obvs. So satisfying every time. Wanting to be good at everything is always the winning strategy. Not everyone can afford to attain it though.

It's even more impressive when you realize his best elements have come from very early season (ACI and Rostelecom).

I think the most amusing part of the Best Elements chart, though, is in the ladies and how Kaetlyn Osmond's Flutz has the best GOE out of all 3Lz so far this season.

Okay, so I have the question to satellites who follow all levels of competition, because I have no idea how to interpret it (and actually, where to put that question up...)

So, if you're high enough on nats of the lower level, you get invited to compete at the higher one (ie. Junior champ gets inwvitation for Senior Nats.) My question is, since Novice skaters do only Long program, how the Champions from Novice compete with Juniors? Are they counted only for the Long Program segment, or their Long is actually also counted as the total score? Unless they do train some kind of the short just in case they won and get invited to Juniors (that sounds too extra, tbh...)

And yes, I'm curious because of Yuzuru 06-07 achievements-if it's the latter option, the suggestion that Novice!Yuzuru could score high enough in the free to be counted in top 3 at Juniors is mind blowing...

My theory is that if you start winning enough as a novice then you start training for a SP as well. Yuzu had an SP when as a novice he competed against juniors. You can follow his novice/junior competitions here...
